Spell Diagrams for Advanced Wizards
All of these are gorgeous⌠I espeically like 6-2, 9-3, and 8-2/5.
One for you, honâŚ.
The 7-4 is the classic Wizardâs Knot, but the 5-2/1 gets used as well (I think thatâs the âshorthandâ version).
ok universe, iâm ready to feel good things. make me feel good things.
whenever i post this it works reblog if u want to feel good things & the universe will bring u something sweetÂ
Reblogged this on Wednesday, got a raise yesterday, and today (Friday) had my first sale in several months from my poor neglected Etsy shop. There is real magic in this post.
I am open and willing to accept all forms of wealth and abundance that the universe has to offer me.
basic structure for casting a spell
note- there are a million and one different ways to perform spells, of all kinds of difficulties! this is only supposed to work as a kind of template for baby witches, to alter or discard as you wish.
1. preparation:
đš find a spell. there are hundreds of spells online to choose from- however, it is often simpler to write your own spells since that way you can be as specific as you like and you wonât have to go digging for that ultra rare ingredient specified in the spell. do this by a) researching different herbs, flowers and foods that correspond to your particular intent and b) writing a small chant- two or four lines that preferably have some kind of metre and rhyme- that outlines your intent.
đš once you have all your ingredients, begin cleansing your space and yourself- through the simple visualisation of wiping away negative energy or by burning sage, or by actual hot water and soap.
2. the ritual
đš if you have them, light some candles- white can be used for any spell, but otherwise research what colours correspond to the type of spell you are casting.
đš start to meditate- perform a grounding exercise by envisioning roots drawing up white light into your body, as well as a protective trance by envisioning a bubble slowly enveloping your whole body, relaxing and deepening every sense and inch of yourself.
đš if you so wish, ask for the help of a deity- iâd only do this if you have established some kind of relationship with the being first, but generally you need some kind of symbol, offering and address them respectfully by their title before asking for their assistance (and donât forget to say thank you!)
3. casting:
đš focus your intent. let it consume you- how much you want this thing. imagine yourself getting this thing so clearly it feels like it has already happened. when is a trance, this will be so much more potent.
đš this is the point that seems to be at the pinnacle of every spell- using your ingredients. they can be stirred into tea, crushed together, placed into a jar or a satchet- depending on whether they are edible or not. with every ingredient, make sure you understand what youâre doing, what the ingredient is and what it represents.
đš repeat your chant that you wrote before- take a moment between each repetition to again hone that intent and to truly understand and pour your energy into each one of those words. say the chant three times!
4. done and dusted:
đš thatâs it, youâre done! clear up slowly and respectfully, and ensure you have exited your trance by stamping your feet, clapping your hands etc.
đš finally, record the experience and any outcomes in a grimoire or journal- so you can be sure next time how to improve.
hi thank u for being

This is worse. Looking at these you can tell they have no significant monetary value. They were confiscated as a fear tactic. Nothing more.
This picture breaks my heart everytime it appears in my dash. Itâs a fear tactic, alright butâ
The first one in the left corner: Itâs a first communion rosary, and itâs not cheap.
The black one in the first line: Thatâs a widow rosary and itâs old.
The white one in the second line: is a commemoration rosary. It has a miniature picture in the round part. I havenât seen that since the 70â˛s.
In the third line, multicolor one: Itâs an Anima mundi, I have only seen those in the hands of Rosary ministeryâs old ladies. The oldest ones are from the 80â˛s after Juan Pablo II came to Mexico for the first time. Itâs one of the old ones, I know because the crucifixes are different. The third one on the fourth line: Red and gold. The style is old, the metal is dark, thatâs a 50â˛s rosary, probably a quinceaĂąera one (or itâs maybe older, from the 40â˛s when the brides carried red roses with their offerings).
The fifth one on the fourth line: Itâs a quinceaĂąera rosary with Ignatiusâs tear. The style is old and in my part of Mexico is orphan girls who used it. At least it was when I was young. The third one of the fifth line: the blue one with the anchor. That one I have only seen in Veracruz and it doesnât look new. The fifth one on the fifth line: Thatâs a 90â˛s wedding rosary. Black and white patterns were popular on that date. The fourth one on the last line: Thatâs a first communion rosary from the 30â˛s. Itâs delicate and most probably silver. The rest wrench my heart too, the humble everyday rosaries with wooden beads and knots. Those are cheap and bear the wear and tear of their user handling. But those I described are much more.
Those are motherâs rosaries.
Those are not just rosaries. Those are mementos, thatâs the proof of their families stories. They are taking from them the only portable things they can carry to feel the connection to their families. Itâs not a fear tactic. Call it like by its name. Itâs dehumanization.
Yâall asked for it so yâall gonna get it! Iâmma start off with the barebones essentials and work my way to basic definitions. Sit down on something comfy and get yourself your warm beverage of choice and maybe grab a notebook because here goes.
What are runes?
Runic alphabets have been around since about 150 AD and used as a writing system by a lot of Germanic languages. These systems were eventually phased out, slowly but surely, with the progressive Christianisation that started around 700-1100 AD. The three most commonly known (and used?) Are the Elder Futhark, the Younger Futhark and Futhorc.
Runes arenât, themselves, broadly meant for divination, thought there are a few passages in the Eddas that mention Odin âfindingâ and using them.
Alright, so which alphabet should I use?
Whichever one you want! I prefer using the Elder Futhark, because itâs the first alphabet I learned and got familiar with, but that doesnât at all stop you from using the Younger Futhark or Futhorc. Iâd heavily suggest making sure you read up on the differences in each alphabet though; Ansuz, for example, wonât look the same, mean the same or even be called the same from one alphabet to another.Â
Familiarize yourself with each of them if you want/can, and choose based on your own preferences and criteria. Always work with what feels best for you!
But Iâm not really familiar with Germanic traditions / Iâm a baby witch, should or can I use runes for divination?
This is the concept that got my goat real good the first time. You do not, in any way, shape or form, need to be experienced to cast runes. This is a notion that is outdated and perpetuated by gatekeepers and exclusionists. No one gives a flying flip how long youâve been practicing witchcraft, or if you even practice at all!
Divination should be seen as a tool to further yourself and/or your craft. It can be used by itself or in conjunction with other activities, practices or beliefs. I was 15 when I started learning about runes (dear god that was literally over ten years ago) and I had no idea what I was doing back then. I read up as much as I could about the system I was wanting to use and, once I was comfortable with it, I started doing small readings.
It shouldnât matter how new or familiar you are to divination, rune casting or Germanic traditions. If rune casting feels right to you, you are more than free to use whatever divination method feels right to you.
What should I do before I start a reading?
As a Norse Pagan, I usually invoke my patron deities (Baldr and Loki, in this case), as well as Odin and Freyja, sometimes Gullveig/Heiðr because reasons. I have no idea whether or not this has any actual bearing on the reading itself, as mine were as accurate before I converted as they are now.
Making sure youâre in a quiet and/or comfortable space is also a good idea, even if that just means popping in some earphones and listening to something that makes you focus and feel calm.
This is also a good time to mention that cleansing your runes (stone, bone, wood or otherwise) is a very good idea. I typically do this with candles, incense, a bowl of water and a point of quartz for each element. I donât do this nearly as often as I probably should, since most people suggest cleansing them after each reading⌠but, whatever, being lax with that hasnât bitten me in the ass so far. So if youâre a spoonie, donât worry: cleanse your runes when you feel they need to be cleansed, and thatâs it.
Alright, I think Iâm ready; how do I start reading?
Let me start by saying that the bullshit about never reading yourself? Itâs just that. Bullshit. Do readings on yourself if you want to. Who the hell is going to stop you. Do whatever you want.
On that note, there are a few ways to cast runes, though these probably arenât close to being the only ones:Â
Intuitively choosing the stones Lay the runes down on a flat surface and let your hand hover over them and pick out the ones that feel right. You can either pick them in order of the spread youâre using, or place the runes where you feel they belong on the spread.
Throwing the stones Make sure you have a large flat surface to work with (preferably the floor honestly) where you wonât drop, scatter or lose a rune. You can use a mat underneath, and read the stones that fall on the corresponding positions in the spread or circle. (You can find many of these with a quick google search, or make your own mat!) Otherwise, you can take the first stones you see facing up and lay those out according to your spread.
Picking them blindly Either you or the person youâre reading pull stones blinding out of a pouch, bag or other container, and lay them out according to the spread youâre using. Pretty straightforward.
If you can think of another method, literally nothing is stopping you from using that instead. The runes are acting as a universal translator for whatever it is youâre tapping into. Theyâre just a tool to receive a message. How you choose to receive that message is completely up to you!
So Iâve got my runes laid out, now what?
Now comes the fun part. I can only really give you a good run-down of the Elder Futhark, and though itâs a good starting point, I would highly advise you do your own research on whatever alphabet you want to use. Wikipedia is a great place to start, but donât stop there: look at several different websites and lists and compare. Combine and condense the information for yourself, and get to learn the definitions and meanings for yourself!

Phew! What a list. These are just brief descriptions and meanings that Iâve been able to compile and condense over the years.
But, what does âopposedâ mean?
I see where youâre coming from. As a baby diviner, I, also, was confused by this. But let me explain how Iâve come to understand it!Â
Sometimes, if youâre doing a set spread, youâll have a spot for things like, âwhat will oppose youâ, or âwhat you need to avoidâ. Things like that. If, say, a rune like Suwilo was found in something like that, youâd want to try and keep a sharp mind to avoid deceptions or letting yourself be too gullible.
When runes donât have a reversed form, their position in your spread will usually determine what they mean. (Though really this is true for literally any rune.)
Anything else I should know?
The best advice I can ever give anyone is to always do what you feel is right. If you find yourself wondering, âShould I do this? Is this right?â If you question yourself at all, you should probably not to the thing and go with something else.
Itâs also important to mention that the names I have for the runes may not be the ones that youâve learned to know them by; a lot of runes can go by different names depending on who you ask and where you look. Do your research, and know the runes by the names you feel are best! (And preferably historically accurate.)
As always, if you have any questions regarding runes and how to read them, please ask me! My ask box is literally always open and almost always empty.

There a point in learning to read tarot where youâve got a really general sense of what the deck does, recognize keywords for probably around 50% (give or take) of the cards on sight and maybe another 20% you can get with a little peek at the keywords in the guidebook. Iâve got a theory that this is a really formative moment in your development as a reader, that this is the starting point for creating all of the solid connections and understandings that youâll use later on as a reader but it will feel like youâre not getting anywhere in the process, like youâve hit a plateau point in your progress.
So if you find yourself at this point (or possibly back at this point after not using the deck for a while) hereâs a few things that might help get over what will probably feel like a lot of work for little reward:
-DONâT GIVE UP YET! learning the deck is a big project! Itâs made even bigger by the fact that each deck is slightly different, every source youâll use as a guide will be slightly different, and everyone learns in slightly different ways. Donât let reaching this point make you feel like youâll never get any better.
-Keep reading for yourself. Do it as often as you can. Read with more than one card at a time. You donât have to use giant, really in depth spreads, but drawing 3-7 cards at a time will help, I promise! Even if it feels overwhelming to look at all of them and feel like you have no idea what any of them mean.Â
-Write down ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that pops up when youâre reading. See the 5 of Pents and it makes you think about the way your grandmother would give out pennies at Halloween? WRITE IT DOWN! This kind of association is what will get you from memorizing keywords to understanding the nuanced meanings of the cards. It doesnât have to make sense in the moment, and it probably wonât, but by recording these associations you start to construct an emotive language with the deck.
-Consider looking at a different source for the meanings for a while. Having only one deck is totally fine, but if you only ever use that one guidebook youâll end up missing out on finding connections that will resonate more deeply with you and thus be easier to recall. Downloading a free tarot app with meanings is a great, free way to add depth to your understanding. I know Labyrinthos is often suggested for newer readers but itâs got very limited, keyword based meanings that wonât help you at this point. I really like Galaxy Tarot app for quick reference stuff. Bigger non-guidebooks (idk what else to call them? academic tarot texts maybe?) are also great for this moment and a lot of the more academic ones are available at libraries. I love 78 Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack but there are a TON of good resources along those lines. These can of course be hit-or-miss and asking around for good/non-appropriative/non-racist authors is always good.Â
-Be willing to change up the way youâve been doing things. Do you always read with the same basic spread arrangement? Change it up. Usually draw three cards? Start drawing 5. Find that the Swords are just really difficult to remember for you? Spend a week looking up what each meanings and looking at different versions of the cards (pinterest is a great place to find images from a TON of decks!). Write down the images that resonate or âclickâ for you (keep building those associations!)
- This probably wonât work for everyone, but Iâve found that in order to fully integrate something I need to hear myself saying it out loud. So when I reached this point in my tarot work it was really significant that I was able to tell my partner about things Iâd figured out. Itâs the same idea from school, where you get a better handle on something when you have to teach it to someone else. Find someone who is willing to listen while you talk through your process, bonus if itâs someone who asks questions or engages with you. If you donât have someone in your life like this and you need to tell someone about stuff youâve figured out, talk to me. Iâll happily be your TarotParent, Iâm proud of all the work youâve already put into it and I canât wait to see what else you learn!
If youâre past this point in your tarot learning and have anything you remember that helped, feel free to add it! Learning the deck is definitely tough and often the advice ends up boiling down to âbe patient and keep goingâ, which isnât really all that helpful. So what helped when you reached this plateau point? What made the meanings start to click for you? Or what associations really helped you start to see the cards in a new way?

How to Witchcraft: Knot, Thread & Cord Magic
Itâs a funny thing. I use knot/cord magic A LOT but I donât think Iâve ever seen a book devoted to it (I like Scott Cunninghamâs chapter on it in Earth Power, pg.91). Itâs so versatile though that there SHOULD be more about it.
As a newer witch, knot/cord magic is something I HIGHLY recommend. Especially if you are in the broom closet/canât light candles or have a fire to burn herbs. Itâs easy to do and itâs inconspicuous. There are so many ways to incorporate it too.Â
First letâs talk about the different kinds of knot/cord magic:
Braiding: Used for long term, braid three or more colored cords while focusing on your intention and use when necessary.Â
Knot 1: Â Tie 9 knots on a colored cord while focusing on your intention and place some place where it will not be disturbed (by storing it, burning it or burying it- so the knots will never be undone).
Knot 2:Â Tie 9 knots on a colored cord while focusing on your intention to store energy. Release knots one by one in the order they were tied to release the energy when needed, once a day consecutively.
Crochet/Knitting:Â Use to imbue intention into the item so that the wearer benefits (e.g. warmth, self confidence, protection, etc).
Cross Stitch/Embroidery:Â Used to imbue intention into the item. Especially useful with sigils.Â
How to do it:
There are a few methods known when working with knot & cord magic.
Braided cords typically do not get undone, and are stored for long term use. While braiding the cord (typically in 9â or 9â measurements but if you donât follow the threefold law this is irrelevantâ unless your deity is a triplicate that you plan to invoke). To Do: Concentrate on your intent while braiding the cord, visualizing/thinking about it coming to fruition. Once youâre finished braiding consecrate the cord and put it away until you need it. This isnât meant for an every day thing, just an as needed cord.
Knots can be harnessed in a few ways but the gist is that youâre using the knots to store power related to the intention of your spell. 1) Where you donât ever untie them, 2) When you untie them as power is needed, or 3) when you untie one knot each day for consecutive days.
Typically you would tie a bead onto one end of the cord so that you know what your starting end is. You can also melt the ends with fire to prevent fraying. To Do: Pass the cord through a candle flame or incense to cleanse it while saying the words of your spell (i.e. the REASON youâre doing this) then you begin tying the knots in the cord you want to say the following while focusing on the intention/the type of power you are storing:
By knot of ONE, the spellâs begun By knot of TWO, it cometh true By knot of THREE, so mote it be By knot of FOUR, this power I store By knot of FIVE, the spellâs alive By knot of SIX, this spell I fix By knot of SEVEN, events Iâll leaven By knot of EIGHT, it will be Fate By knot of NINE, whatâs done is mine
Generally knots are tied in this order:Â
1âââ6âââ4âââ7âââ3âââ8âââ5âââ9âââ2
But I have seen other variations, I just find this one easier to follow because it doesnât start in the middle so you have a reference point for which end contains the 1st knot (the bead). You can also tie things INTO the knot to strengthen the magic even further (hair, wood, stones/gems, etc) just make sure to destroy or bury those items if you choose to untie the knots. Some people use knotted cords as a powerful talisman and donât untie the knots, if this is the case you want to store it where it wonât be disturbed, burn it so it will never physically be untied or bury it where it will disintegrate in the earth and also never physically be untied. I have done all three methods of handling and I canât say I prefer one over the other. The really great thing about storing energy is that itâs raised when it will be the most powerful (increases, like success or protection, would be sometime from the new moon to full and decreases, like a binding, would be sometime from the full moon to new) but the power is now stored for use whenever you need it.Â
Crocheting/Knitting is something I consider part of knot and cord magic because you can purposefully stitch your intention into the item youâre making. A lot of time, if for friends/family, I weave warmth and protection into things I make for them. So I might say something like:
With every stitch that I make, the wearer of this item will be protected and warm, but as the need arises they will be alert until they get to safety. Never too hot, but not cold either, This item will keep them comfortable. By earth, air, flame and sea, as I say, so shall it be.
And Iâll focus on that while I continue to make the item. Off topic, but notice how I put a clause in there that they will be alert if the need arises until they reach safety. I donât want them to be so warm and comfortable that they neglect their own safety.Â
Cross-stitch/embroidery:Â You can embroider sigils using color appropriate cloth and thread! You can cross stitch spells into your work (like cross stitching an acorn and imbuing it with luck and protection, which actual acorns can represent). There are so many different things you could do, let your imagination do the work!

Stop Learning Tarot Cards Like Flash Cards (Youâre Better Than That)
One thing Iâve noticed as Iâve started teaching tarot cards to other people is that they have a tendency to think that every card has an individual meaning and it is their duty to memorize 78 complex sets of meanings before they can begin reading for others.Â
Thatâs simply not true.Â
Itâs also incredibly inefficient and totally kneecaps you when you move on to learn another deck (and try memorizing ANOTHER 78 complex sets of meanings). Cards exist in relation to one another. Understanding those relationships lets you remember meanings quicker, better understand how cards in a spread might be connected, and give much smoother readings.Â
If youâre learning Tarot for the first time or looking to bush up, hereâs my advice after reading cards for 10 years. Please, learn from my mistakes. Tarot is a language
In the same way you learn letters and string them into words and then string words into sentences to communicate, tarot is a language you learn so your intuition can communicate more fully with you and others. And like a language, itâs often best to start with the phrases that youâll use the most.Â
Practice: Go through your deck and pick out no more than 12 cards that are really calling to you and look up those meanings. Write them down if youâre up for it. Go through your deck and pick out no more than 12 cards that give you a feeling of unease and do the same. Notice any reoccurring symbols?
 Tarot is a story
How you understand that story may vary on your tradition, your experience level, your aims. Most standard Tarot decks follow the Foolâs Journey through the Major Arcana as he becomes more skilled and then more enlightened. A similar pattern can be seen in each of the suits. The Court Cards are less narrative in my opinion but a similar progression can be seen.Â
Practice: Take out each of the suits one at a time and lay them out in a row. Read the meanings of each card and see how the story progresses. Write down a summary. Do the same with each of other suitsâ courts and the major arcana.
Tarot is a system
You arenât fluent until you know the language well enough to speak smoothly and in most situations. Similarly, it takes understanding Tarot at a high level to give the best quality readings and read without a book. No card exists in isolation and just like when they show up in a reading, you must read them in relation to the rest of the spread - it helps a lot to know them in relation to the rest of the deck.Â
Practice: Lay every card in your deck out like this (pardon my bad MSPaint job). Major Arcana up top and Court Cards off to the right and all the numbers lined up with the Fool and World left hanging. Pick one of the cards that resonated with you in the first exercise and look at how it relates to all the other cards in the deck. If itâs the 8 of Pentacles, what do the other 8â˛s look like and speak to? What do 8 (Strength) and 18 (the Moon) in the Major Arcana connect to it (if at all)? How does it relate to the rest of the story of the Pentacles? Hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!Â
Back during the time when it was popular to bash Twilight for both legitimate reasons (Edward being borderline abusive to Bella, the whole child grooming plot point in Breaking Dawn, etc.) and not (REAL VAMPIRES DONâT SPARKLE THATS GAY), I saw this meme on Facebook where it was Louis and Lestat from Interview With The Vampire commenting on Edwardâs sparkling and making fun of him for being gay. Like⌠Buddy My Guy. My Fair Dude. My Dear Sweet Homophobic Idiot. Not only are the Vampires in IWTV super duper gay, youâre lying to yourself if you think Lestat wouldnât slam dunk his entire body into a tub of glitter on any given occasion. You Fool. You Imbecile.
@wicked-felina
Lestat: WHY DONâT WE GLITTER I WAS ROBBED
Louis: Does he ask our pity? He can walk in the sunlight, whereas we, foul creatures of darkness as we are, are forever barred from Godâs kindly li â
