completely agree, which is very funny for a game that beats you over the head with how much Harry has hurt the people around him.

I truly don’t think there’s something Jean has done that Harry hasn’t also done but worse, which makes the disparity in leeway so confusing.

Even the argument I see sometimes about Jean being a “conventionally attractive able bodied white man” as opposed to Harry fries me. They’re both white, they both have disabilities (Harry’s addiction and polio-induced “law jaw”; jean’s pox scars, cluster headaches, clinical depression described as a “medical anomaly”, paratextual meth addiction)… The only thing Jean has on Harry is that he’s buff, but even that isn’t described in a way that implies health or positive body image (“works out like he has the devil on his back”)

Trapped in the worst stage of the cycle of creative suffering: Get excited about an idea -> Start writing it -> Feel compelled to (re)connect with the fandom to channel passion for the Thing -> (re)learn that most of the fandom feels neutral to actively hostile towards pretty much every element of fic draft -> Stare at wall for a few days -> Abandon WIP for 2+ years.

also this might be an unpopular opinion, but i think MOST people are actually completely able to "consume" a piece of a media without anaylzing it through a shipping lense, but i just think they than aren't likely to be posting that analysis on archiveofourown. i think for the most people what's happening is that people are like. going on fandom websites and communities and getting really annoyed they're seeing too much yaoi or whatever, and it's like there's alot of fast food at mcdonalds too, i'm sure the people eating there don't have anything else going on in there lives either

its still darkly amusing to me that disco elysium hired a bunch of lefty podcasters to do voice acting for the original cut of the game and many of them are confirmed evil now (one is a literal nazi) and they also made the fascist merc you shoot in the face or set on fire look exactly like peter daou bc he was the shitlib clintonite nemesis of that type of podcaster, and peter daou had a change of heart and became like a socdem or something and isn't as annoying/evil of a person as the podcasters

I think the funniest thing about JV is that he seems completely oblivious to how self absorbed he is, like. Saying that the only reason Trant has remained on the task force is because JV is forcing him, as if Trant isn’t also a divorcee and recovering addict who talks abt Harry’s condition w a lot of thoughtfulness and insight. Calling Judit an “extremely patient patrol officer” to imply that it’s Harry who’s exhausting her patience, meanwhile Judit (who is ALSO a divorcee) is wearily telling JV to stop being a dick and embarrassing her. Complaining abt his clinical depression in the same breath that he says Harry’s faking his amnesia. It’s so fucking funny. He’s so lucky that Harry chased him off because if he was the player’s partner instead of Kim you just know the game would clown him so much worse. He would say smth about being clinically depressed and all the Martinaise residents would be like yeah yeah the horrors we’ve all seen them. If he ever talked to Cindy I think he would suffer fatal morale damage within five minutes.

Hi my name is Lieutenant Double-Yefreitor Harrier Du Bois and I was born during the war (that’s how i got my name) and i have long salt and pepper hair that reaches up to my shoulders and icy green eyes like The Pale and a lot of people tell me I look like Kras Mazov (AN: if you don’t know who he is get da hell out of here!). I’m not related to Guillaume Le Million but I wish i was because he’s a major fucking hottie. I’ve done meth but my teeth are straight and white. I have red alcohol poisoned skin. I’m also a cop, and I work for a militia called the RCM in Revachol where I’m a detective (I’m 44). I’m a Disco Cop (in case you couldn’t tell) and I wear a horrific necktie. I love dumpster diving and I get all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing an insane mesh top with a purple bow tie and a green disco blazer and gold flare-cut pants, green snakeskin shoes and oversized superstar sunglasses. I had a moustache and mutton chops. I was walking outside the Whirling-in-rags. Garte the cafeteria manager stared at me. I put up my finger pistols at him.

Ah, yes, the character who canonically has clinical depression, cluster headaches, and possibly long-term damage from smallpox or a similar virus. A very "abled" guy, for sure.

Are there some genuine points to be made and discussions to be had around the ways people characterize Jean and Harry, and how they emphasize or de-emphasize their respective disabilities in ways that can be problematic? Absolutely. But I am increasingly convinced that this user in particular is just Making Up a Guy To Be Mad At.

It's an interesting strategy, to accuse anyone who doesn't loathe Jean of ignoring canon to support their bigotry while also, uh... ignoring basic details of canon when it doesn't suit their hater agenda. From where I'm standing, it looks like you're just doing to Jean what you think everyone else is doing to Harry. Let's all hold hands and acknowledge that almost nobody in this game is conventionally attractive, abled, or without sin, and that's kind of the whole fucking point.

MAPPING REVACHOL (2.0)

Back in July of 2024, I was incredibly inspired by the project Mapping Revachol by Map Max and wanted to continue on with an attempt of my own. The canon map we're given felt out of date and more than a little incongruous with what we're told in-game, and being both an avid fanfic writer and compulsive visualizer, I really wanted to be able to see Revachol in my mind's eyes.

So, taking inspiration from both Map Max's attempt, as well as meticulously combing through in-game dialogue (with the help of my intrepid friend and far more meticulous researcher than I, @spine-y) we scoured Fayde for any and all directional references to the different districts of Jamrock, East and West Revachol, and everything that lay beyond. (Shoutout to the MoralIntern questline, that one came in clutch).

I took a few liberties with district placement, especially because the wiki also seems to contradict a few things we're told in the game. You may not agree with my choices, and I'm open to suggestions! I may not make any changes anytime soon because this took forever, but I also welcome any other attempts to map Revachol!

Included below is my initial sketch before I realized that doing this in markers and microns would actually be the death of me, and then some of the early screenshots of trying to figure out what the hell the 8-81 would actually look like and how to make it make sense.

Does it make perfect sense? No! I'm not a cartographer; I'm a fanartist. I'd much rather draw men dicking each other down nasty style. But this was an incredibly fun project that only took me... only six months to complete.
