“Dimentio shouldn’t be with his father.” -Anonymous —– Oh…
OKAY BUT @dimentioinplacesheshouldntbe YOU DO KNOW THIS IS ACTUALLY RELEVANT??!!!
LIKE
DIMENTIO HAD A DAD AND A MOM AND EVERYTHING
AND ALL THE EVIDENCE IS IN CARSON’S STORIES
OKAY YA’LL GATHER ROUND IMMA TEACH YOU HOW DEEP THIS GAME’S LORE GETS.
There’s a string of Carson stories that shed light on Dimentio and his history. There are different ways to interpret them, but I’m going to show you the way that most of the pieces of the puzzle fit together. WARNING: long blocks of text ahead, so I will be bolding the important stuff so you don’t need to read the irrelevant parts. GET COMFY EVERYPEOPLES WE’RE ABOUT TO DIVE INTO THE DEEPEST PARTS OF THIS GAME’S BACKGROUND.
First, Dimentio’s backstory:
“So Count Bleck has four minions, as you know. I hear that one of them, Dimentio, wields powerful magic. I don’t know where he comes from or who he is… But I hear he approached and befriended the count all on his own. And the count even turned him away once… Until he read in the Dark Prognosticus about the role of someone similar… Why was he mentioned in the Dark Prognosticus? Sounds fishy to me!”
Yes it does, Carson. But we haven’t even scratched the surface yet of this archeological dig site of lore. Next, creation of the Pixls and the Pixl Uprising:
“So do you know how the Pixls came to be? A powerful magician among the Ancients created them about 3,000 years ago. He did it by transferring a spirit into a vessel he created for that purpose. He’s said to have created 12 Pixls like this before he passed away. But his apprentices kept researching Pixls after his game ended… They learned to create many more Pixls based on his original 12. These Pixls became widely used as ‘thinking tools’ for the grateful Ancients. Through the work of many Pixls, the Ancients prospered as they never had before. But that was a long time ago… There are no more Pixls now, I understand… Well, except for some of the original Pixls, who were scattered far and wide… They lie in wait for a new master to arrive. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was one hiding here in this very town…”
So 3,000 years ago, a powerful magician created the first pixls. Seems legit. Let’s keep going. Pixl Uprising:
“So have you heard about the Pixl uprising? It happened in the capital of the Ancients some 2,000 years ago. The Ancients lived in prosperity thanks to the work of many Pixls… But one day that all ended. A huge Pixl calling herself the Pixl Queen suddenly appeared… At her command, Pixls everywhere rebelled against their Ancient masters. It seems that most Pixls were well-contained spirits, but she was different. In her case, a demonic spirit was contained within a Pixl vessel. And this queen Pixl had the power to command all other Pixls. The Ancients had become so dependent on the Pixls. They were devastated… They suddenly lost their ability to build and rule their empire effectively… …And what happened then, you ask? Come back for the next installment!”
“So now let’s continue my story about the Pixl uprising… The Ancients were overthrown and enslaved by the Pixl revolt led by the Pixl Queen. In the midst of the ruin appeared the inheritors of the twelve original Pixls. They defeated the waves of Pixl soldiers and freed the enslaved Ancients. They used Catch Cards to trap the mind-controlled Pixl soldiers, then healed them. They saw their friends fall one after the other in battle, but they persevered. The last survivor managed to make it to the castle of the Pixl Queen. But the Pixl Queen used her powers of illusion to hide. She then unleashed horrific images upon the surviving freedom fighter. One of the Pixls at his side was immune to this, for it could see truth. It helped the survivor fight, and he and his Pixl finally defeated the Pixl Queen. But in the process, the Pixl’s game was ended… Oh…Looks like the coins you paid will only get you this far through the story!”
“Now for another exciting installment in the Pixl uprising… The vanquisher of the Pixl Queen was confronted with an awful truth. It turned out that the Pixl Queen was actually the very first Pixl ever created… The master magician had made her after studying the Dark Prognosticus. So when the last surviving apprentice took the Dark Prognosticus from the queen… He decided to disappear with the book so that this sort of catastrophe wouldn’t repeat. But even as peace returned, the Ancients could not lose their fear of the Pixls. So, the elders among the Ancients gathered to discuss what to do. They decided to limit the powers of all Pixls from that day forth… And the creation of new Pixls was outlawed. But, as a result, the power and influence of the Ancients began an irreversible decline. Now the secret of Pixl creation is lost forever. Though rumors abound of awakened Ancients and newly created Pixls… Is that true? If you know anything about it, please tell me!”
Nice long blocks of text, but what are we supposed to be getting out of all this? Well, here’s where things get fun and we start putting together some clues. First, remember this bolded part for later: The master magician had made her after studying the Dark Prognosticus.
Wait a second… what was that bolded part in the middle of the second part of the Pixl Uprising???
But the Pixl Queen used her powers of illusion to hide.
HMMMM. WHO ELSE DOES THAT?
THAT’S RIGHT. EVERYONE’S FAVORITE A** HOLE.
Anyways, last story is about the Pixl Queen herself:
“So about the Pixl Queen from the Pixl uprising… Did you know there have been interesting theories published about her? In one book left behind by the master magician’s apprentice, I found this: ’The spirit within the Pixl Queen was not a demon, but rather a human… The master magician had a beautiful wife, a son, and a daughter. But he lost his wife and son in an accident. Soon after, his daughter caught a terrible illness, and her short game ended.’ Perhaps he transferred her spirit to a Pixl vessel? …Well, that’s the theory. Is it possible the other Pixls were spirits from the game-overed? …Anyway, the person who published this has already disavowed that theory. I mean, it does seem a little unlikely, right? But if it WERE true… I’d bet the daughter was so horrified by the deeds of her father… That she wanted no one to ever use Pixls again. …But what do I know? I DO think nothing less would have broken the Ancients’ Pixl dependency. Oh, and some say the son of the magician miraculously recovered from the accident. If so, the bloodline of the magician could endure… Did they find happiness? Or otherwise…”
HOLY GUACAMOLE THAT’S A LOT TO UNPACK. Here’s where things get REALLY interesting and we can start sketching out the basic framework of Dimentio’s backstory.
Remember that I told you to remember that little line: The master magician had made her after studying the Dark Prognosticus. Now let’s take that and put that together with another piece: I’d bet the daughter was so horrified by the deeds of her father…
Now, next, we have the little thing where the Pixl Queen used her powers of illusion. That’s a dead ringer for one of Dimentio’s powers. Why the similarities? Well, remember how the wife and son of the master magician were in an accident and the son may have survived? They were originally human, but if they got in some sort of accident that BADLY altered their appearances…
Wait.
Dimentio wears a mask. All the time. And he looks as if his growth were stunted when he was young. Put that together with the Pixl Queen’s similar powers, and we seem to have found her long lost brother.
So here’s the full story, in order.
The master magician wrote the dark prognosticus.
He then had a family. The family knew about the dark prognosticus. The mom was neutral, the daughter wanted nothing to do with it, and the son was intrigued by it.
So much so that he would constantly steal it from his father’s study to read it.
This boy has… issues, okay?
Since he has issues, Dad can’t help favoring his “little princess.”
Then the tragic accident happened far from home, in which the mother died and the son was badly mutilated.
Also his aging process was somehow screwed up so he’s going to be tiny and immortal.
The son had no way to get home, so he just wandered the streets, hated by society for his ugliness and for begging for food.
The son, already mentally ill, decided that if this unfair world hated him so much, then he would just hate it back ten times more.
Back home, the daughter fell ill. Desperate not to lose the last of his family, the master magician started a race against the disease to find a way to keep her alive.
He concluded from his old work on the dark prognosticus that he could place his daughter’s dying soul into a vessel that would safely hold her spirit for as long as the vessel survived.
Because this girl had magic powers as a human, this pixl is op af.
After the master magician died, the pixl took the dark prognosticus and tried to destroy it.
Turns out this book is indestructible. Thousands of years will go by and it will look shiny and brand new.
Angry that her father even made such a thing, and frustated at his refusal to let her go to the afterlife after such a painful disease, she went and started rounding up pixls into an army.
She calls herself the Pixl Queen because she was a little princess when her father was alive, but now that he is gone, she is a Queen.
Pixl Uprising happens.
Pixl Uprising ends.
A long time later…
The son is still alive because MARVEL tragic accident powers were real all along and he is immortal as a result.
He has developed his powers to their fullest extent. Dude’s had, like, 3,000 years, of course he’s going to be powerful.
He’s also changed his wardrobe. And he wears a mask to hide his heavily scarred face.
He has recently taken up an occupation as a freelance mercenary, while doing magic shows as a side thing.
One day, he sees a tall guy with a tall hat and a weird looking cape walking down the road.
The son is like, “I read that book cover to cover so many times, I can recite the whole thing out loud. This guy fits the bill for that one prophesy about the end of all worlds. Imma go talk to him.”
And that’s exactly what he does.
He walks right up to Count Bleck.
He introduces himself with the name he chose for himself long ago when creating a new identity for himself.
Master of dimensions.
Pleaser of crowds.
Dimentio.
After having this reaction image in randomly saved in my phone for a month, I finally have a use for it. Good research my pal!
Haha yes I tend to do that
Me: DID YOU KNOW *talks forever abt something*
Them: Yes everybody knew that
Me: GOOD!
I’m just saying, you deserve applause for your diligent efforts
One additional note about this theory:
Dimentio’s morality seems to be based entirely on the principle that what helps him is good and what does not help him is bad.
“I’m saying that you no longer have value to me, so I’m ending your games.“ - Dimentio
While this is a trait you would expect in a relentless psychopath, it is also a trait you would expect in a child. Children have underdeveloped brains, and thus their view of the world and morality is underdeveloped. According to Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development, until the age of around 7, children base their morality system around what yields punishment and rewards, rather than “right” and “wrong.” Maybe I’m looking too deep into this, but if the growth of Dimentio’s morality was stunted since the accident, this might explain his psychopathic behavior.
Good observation! And I’m no person to lecture for overthinking things because I do that all the time and have no shame.
Yes, I can definitely see some cognitive functioning being halted along with his physical growth. He seems to make very odd similes, suggesting he never quite got the hang of figures of speech. He may have developed some aspects of his thinking, because he is extremely intelligent and cunning, and is an expert at manipulation of people. But you’re right, many of his behaviors seem to be what a child would do, like doing anything to get his way, except he manages to pull it off so that it works every time. And that takes a lot of practice and experience. 3,000 years and Tragic Accident Powers would certainly give him that.
Dimentio: How did you find me?
Bleck: Oh, it was easy, really. Count Bleck just listened to the sound of complete and utter betrayal and followed that.
And here they are
THIS BITCH EMPTY
YEET
He’ll come after you all…
hmm
the series continues
Memo: The Count’s World Turns 10 in 2018
Yeah, so we here at Castle Bleck are working really hard on some top-secret projects to have a great celebration that year. Unfortunately, we can’t tell you anything about them quite yet. But there is one thing we want to say, because it involves you. So listen up, K?
The Count is working hard on one project, but there are a few things he’s missing, and one of them is art. We need a lot of pictures. We’re doing them the best we can back here, but the Count said that since this celebration is all for you, the audience, he wants to extend the offer to include you.
So here’s what you can do, if you’re so inclined: draw a picture of your favorite part of the Count’s adventures. Anything from the records we’ve been sharing with you. Or just pictures of the castle residents doing something, being together. We’re going to use them in a video that will be a part of our celebration. The only thing we can’t use is just plain drawings of the characters standing around. They have to be doing something, y’know? We’ll even include comics as long as they don’t have dialogue.
Now, some of you might be wondering, “Well, I’d love to, but I’m not very good.” That doesn’t matter. As long as you do your best work, we’d be happy to include it. Depending on response, we may not be able to include everything we get, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Oh, and if you submit anything that you drew on lined notebook paper, we’re gonna have to trace over it and use it with a clean background. But yeah, we’ll definitely take something you drew in class when your teacher wasn’t looking as long as you’re proud of it.
You can submit as many drawings as you want. Unfortunately, this isn’t a paid gig, as our funds are running pretty low and most of our coins have to go to our operating expenses. But we’ll definitely make sure everyone who sees the video knows who you are and which drawings are yours. I know exposure isn’t as good as money, but unfortunately it’s all we have.
You have all of 2017, so don’t rush. Whenever you finish, just send them to our blog. Or tag the author, TheGreatAllie. Or message us with a link to another website. Just so long as we see them. We’re not picky. Dimentio is being punished and part of it is he’s in charge of collecting the art, so we’re not too concerned with making it easy for him. You can do as many as you want, too. Right now there’s no limit. If demand is big enough, the project has room to expand. Or, if it’s very small, we’ll make up the difference ourselves.
So, yeah, we’re looking forward to a good 2018. Thanks for following us.
~~Nastasia
Bringing this back because I’ve set a deadline: May 31, 2018. I’ve got several things to lead into it, starting in a few weeks.
