Enjolras’s death is genuinely both sad and hilarious because it’s just the national guards who start gushing about him with their riffles on him while he’s waiting for them to kill him in martyr pose.

I mean literally, it’s just this :

National guards : “Are you sure you killed that important guy ? Certain ? Because if you didn’t I don’t have to kill you.”

Enjolras : “Yes I’m certain I killed him”

National guards : “Noooo whyyyy you’re so pretty I don’t want to kill you. I feel like killing a flower”

Enjolras : *waiting while the guards start to rant about how beautiful he is* “So are you killing me or… ?” *Grantaire enters the room* “Oh that moron finally believes in something. Nice to have some company in death”

National guards : “the blinding beauty has been compensated by extreme ugliness, I can now kill those two” *proceeds to shoot them*

My headcanon for modern era is that he was a very problematic teenager that drank A LOT until he moved to Paris and realized he was destroying the life he had always wanted and tried to stop (which adds layers to his reluctance to be around Grantaire)

Canon era Enjolras would be absolutely wasted with a cup of wine
