general situation update and help post because i am losing it. im a disabled trans man that has been financially struggling for a while around some serious medical issues and interpersonal circumstances, i was homeless in 2023 and have been trying to get back on my feet ever since, but have really struggled with skyrocketing energy bills and grocery costs. I make $940 a month that is capped by the federal government, while my rent for my current 1 bedroom now averages at $1125 a month minimum and I cannot keep up, my mom and step dad have a possible solution for the time being that would be indefinite but also way more stable and much cheaper for me not only in terms of paying less than half of what im paying in rent now but also moving costs in general, and have made a gofundme to help cover the costs of this possible option as i have to figure out something by november, there are more details on the fundraiser itself here

more succinct update: my parents and i have discussed a couple of possible options to have me move in w them temporarily to both get me out of this shitty complex and eleviate some financial struggle and stress for the both of us, she charges me less than half of what paying now in rent in exchange for indefinite room and board basically just until federal funding returns to our state. i still have 2 different listing agents at separate companies messaging me occasionally to help me find a suitable townhome rental in my price, but this would still be the most expensive option.

as my mom and i keep talking and trying to work out option 1, general consensus is to try and find a suitable/affordable place before november to move in to early november. to then be ready at least somewhat settled and ready for hernia surgery by mid-november to then go recover in new secure place for the rest of the month

a deeply stressful development in trying to survive until my lease is up is new property management dropping support of the cares act via email to say they can now, upon one missed by 1 day rent payment, immediately begin 5 day max eviction proceedings instead of the standard 30 day notice, so soon after they change all the complex rules around rent payments and implemented their own "tenant portal" where my mystery monthly rent costs arent even posted until the 1st, the exact same day rent is due around the complex, while i USUALLY get my disability pay at this point on the 30th, i make less than $5 an hour and giving me a single day to both learn how much my rent is for the month and scramble to cover what im short on with my entire paycheck no longer covering it while im actively trying to move out.

i would deeply appreciate any at all financial or resources help to move or even cover what im short on, or if theres any help or resources out there that can help or anything i as a renter can do atp to potentially just break my lease just a few months early and leave much much sooner for my own health and safety without then having to pay the current landlord thousands of dollars and destroying my credit just so ill be unable to lease another rental should i leave and require it or go to court for the next 4+ years and lose housing anyway? :')

major update ig? after speaking w my parents a few times and working some specifics out, we've agreed and i now have a guaranteed place to stay come my lease expiration in november so long as i can cover (a majority) of repair costs for the room itself as well as personal moving costs, but they have been getting quotes for the work that needs done and making some room in their separate storage for the small amount of my remaining things as i pack up and empty my apartment now to be ready to fully leave it on the 1st of November. step one is room repairs,

as of right now i am $800 short on the total repair costs for the room of abt $3055 (room needs insulation and drywall repair, minor fix in ventilation/fan, a minor splotch of water damage near the back of the room between the wall and back gate that often floods so that makes sense, and a previously unknown wiring issue revealed after consultation increased the calculated price by some rip) for secured housing in november. whatever moving costs that come after that i will address when i get to them, but for now $800 stands between me and secure housing and $500 a month rent.

ive been dumping whatever i can into my savings around basic needs and supplies to try and get things to work out financially by november to accommodate housing, moving, and major surgery. i am now much much closer to my initial goal than i ever thought i would be at this time, and would really, really appreciate any help at all to work all this out by november. anyone who has followed me in the last couple years probably knows the troubles and complications that have come with my current apartment and constantly changing rules, costs, and management companies, so any help to get out before my rent is increased again while i am already paying $1120+ a month for a 1 bedroom here with no hot water, is infested with spiders, contaminated water, and exposed plumbing in the walls around unfinished repairs that have been this way for 2 years straight. i am desperate to get out of here, and any help is appreciated

the zendaya thing isnt even a new phenomenon by any means!! the article mentions margot robbie wearing the taj mahal diamond as well, and in addition to that i also want to remind people that diljit dosanjh's request to wear the patiala necklace for the 2025 met gala was denied by cartier because they said it was in a museum and could not be loaned. however they had no issues at all loaning it to emma chamberlain, a white woman, for the 2022 met gala, while they turned down the request of a punjabi man who wanted it to honor his heritage.

this behavior is nothing new. the global south and everything in it - the people, the culture, our heritage - is seen as nothing more than a decoration or commodity to colonizers. i don't even need to bring up the koh i noor or the entire british museum; these examples are recent and egregious enough on their own.

of course this is not to imply that any of the people involved here - zendaya, margot robbie, or emma chamberlain - had any sort of malicious intentions. but the ignorance is just as bad in my opinion. the ignorance is just as harmful, if not more. because it means we are not even an afterthought. it means that the real people and histories and heritages of the global south do not even register when these people are putting together looks for their movie premiers and met gala appearances. everything is just reduced down to a shiny piece of jewelry whose history they need not bother with. it's just a continued reminder of the way colonization affects us all even long after independence, of how barely-healed wounds keep being reopened even decades later. even now, we are being denied connections to our histories and heritages while they are freely being given out to those that have nothing to do with it and don't care for it. and i'm sick of it.
