That’s what he could mutter under his breath everytime he captured his muse in wonderful sceneries. The gentle wind ruffling her soft hair, the graceful sun highlighting her face features, everything worked in harmony with her. He was a simple photographer. Her dazzling smile caught his eyes from the first time they met. It was a happy love story in everyone’s eyes.
It all started with small interactions between the two of you at a photography class, nothing more. You were interested in learning more about the features of capturing the living nature while he was looking for a person to shot for a project. Unfortunately, he fell in love in first sight. You were always standing in the seat near him, wanting to get advice from a more experienced photographer. You would always compliment his photos until one day when you saw an unexpected picture in his camera. A picture of him around a park full of cherry blossoms, the scenery seemed to beautiful to be real. It was your first time complementing his manly but soft features, how did you not notice them until now.
That’s when his heart started going crazy, his cheeks feeling a little too hot. Why was he nervous all of a sudden? He only saw you as a friend, but the urge to capture your smiling face while laughing at his shy reaction was sudden. He only realized at that moment. Kang Daniel, a motivated photographer, found his perfect muse. It only took him a moment to ask you right away if you wanted to work with him on a project.
“Did I steal your heart by chance?” Yes. Sadly, he couldn’t confess his love for you so fast. He needed to be sure of his feeling first. “But Daniel, are you sure about me? You know, you could find a prettier mo-”
“N-No! I mean I could, but I’m very comfortable with you already and are perfect for this! Nobody could suit this theme but you!” he almost shouted in class, getting reactions from the fellow classmates who already shipped the two of you. You agreed to a first meeting regarding the locations for photographs.
After spending some cheerful and pleasant time with him for two weeks, Daniel eventually confessed to you while showing you some shoots from his camera. While looking through, he blurted out “Mhm, these came out pretty well! Man, I think I’m in love.” You looked at his face in shock but he just softly smiled and nodded his head. You both were so in love with each other, yet what happened after you got together?
Daniel was a photographer, as he stated, but sometimes he was too passionate about his work. You would text him or even call to hang out and go to a date however he always rejected you by using the same excuse “Sorry, I can’t today..you know how I am supposed to meet with a client.”. You loved him too much after all these ten months of dating. You knew his job was tiring and acquired him to be at different locations during the day. You accepted that. To soothe your longing for him, Daniel decided to move in with you in a comfy house around the mountain zone. He found it peaceful there and he could spend even more time with you. That’s what he thought. After two weeks, Daniel started to go to his daily meet ups with his clients, but unfortunately the snow made him late every night. However, he was always greeted by your cheerful presence and all of the stress would go instantly. You made him loved even after all the harsh criticism he received from his superiors. When he felt lonely at the office he would simply stare at a photo of you and just think about his beautiful muse.
Your break up reason was actually another one. In one week there was your one year anniversary. A whole year with Kang Daniel, the perfect man you could ask for. You thought so. Secretly planning a gift that contains various photos from your dates you kept thinking what Daniel will gift you for this special occasion. But all these week flew so fast by and you noticed how the man was the same. Nothing special in his way of speaking or in his way of looking at you. He could hide his emotions of excitement so well, you thought. But the truth wasn’t like that. Right the night before your anniversary he told you he had to meet up with a client for a quick discussion. You felt quite disappointed but instead just nodded at him. Daniel didn’t forget about this, right?
You took this opportunity to look after a cake at your favorite pastry shop. You liked going by subway or bus, admiring strangers being a hobby of yours. What could people think in such crowded place? About their parents? Lovers? Or lost ones? You could never guess. Looking through the window you saw a beautiful chocolate cake, with a heart in the middle, possibly waiting for you. But giving a look around the shop, you saw the unexpected. Your boyfriend, Kang Daniel, giggling with one of your past classmate from the photography class. Was this his client? Why didn’t he tell you about it? Sadness took over your heart and you stormed out of the store with the cake in your right hand. He forgot, didn’t he? You waited for Daniel at home, putting on your dinner table all kind of cute arragements and the cake in the middle of it. A hour passed and he still didn’t come. It was already night outside, but no sight of Daniel. Around ten o’clock, he makes his appearance in your living room, looking extremely tired. Upset, you go to him and ask him if he forgot something.
“Something? Did you needed me to get something on my way home? I can’t quite remember..” He forgot. How could he put hope in you when he was this bad with you. “You can’t remember? Huh, why am I always such a fool..Kang Daniel, do you know what day today is?”
Silence. Another painful arrow sent to your heart. “You! You even went with an old classmate on a cute cafe date but something like our one year anniversary wasn’t worth remembering?” You could already feel yourself getting teary eyed, you never felt this disappointed. You could sense the change in his mood. “What is wrong with you? You know my job is very tiring and yet you just want to argue over something so small. Do you think you’re that special?!” Were you? Realising what he just said, he tried to grab your arm but you slapped it away. “I…need some time alone. Don’t look after me.” That was all you could manage to say after running out of your house and completely breaking down. You couldn’t care less where you ran. You just wanted to be away from him.
Hours later, Daniel got a call from you. That’s what he thought at first. In complete shock, he dropped his phone and just ran straight to his car. Tears started running down his rosy cheeks, all he could was praying. Praying that someone pulled some kind of sick prank on him.
“Sorry to contact you so late, but could you please hurry and come to the principal hospital? I contacted you about miss Y/N since you’re her speed dial number. I’m sorry to tell you this, but she got into a serious car accident twenty minutes ago and we tried everything…I deeply apologize sir, you can come see her for the last time. She has been declared dead. I wish to offer my condolences.”
He was a sobbing mess, nothing could describe how he felt. He was on his knees at your bed, screaming at the top of his lungs to you. To come back to him. To hug him once more. To love him once again. But he couldn’t bring you back, all of this was his fault. He killed you.
Two months later. Kang Daniel wasn’t the same man as before. He stayed at home a lot and talked to himself about his day. He only walked outside to deliver edited photographs and buy himself some food. He knew he didn’t deserve anything, but he wanted to live well at least. That’s what you always told him. To think about you when he’s stressed. But he was broken. Your shared room was now full of your photographs with him, however only one mattered. Your shining smile on your first sessions. When you became his muse.
He visited your peaceful grave almost everyday. He brought various things you liked and put them there, so you could think about the good times, there, in heaven. But he couldn’t stop his tears. It was too painful for him.
He couldn’t stand these days without you.
