First day back
Spent today finishing off some assignment work and am currently working on the economy prototype for the game I have designed which is kind of like an abstract version of a scrolling shooter (Raiden, Touhou). There’s no scrolling, the player moves through the level themselves and involves a time travel mechanic to switch between two states of a level.
Here is my initial version of the economy prototype in which I plan out things such as how often the player will receive life when defeating an enemy, how much damage they will do to the enemy, whether the player will risk taking damage to collect a pick up or continue shooting, which risks them losing the pick ups.
It will also give an indication of how to balance the power mechanic in which the players attacks grow stronger with each level, enemies have a guaranteed chance to give the player a power pick up but the amount they give could be varied (the tougher the enemy, the higher the reward for example).
