Honeyyy you’re my fav notif tooooo 🩰 Gwayne would be so confuseddd at some point because yeah those are his heirs and he is Ormunds and therefor they are also Ormunds but still he thinks his cousin is taking it a bit too far I mean the children are also Targaryen by birth right so they should get dragon eggs so now imagine both r and Gwayne discussing it and Ormund is like fuck no and Gwayne is yeah but it might bring us an advantage in the upcoming war and Ormund is like i dont give a flying fuck

It pisses Ormund off so much in a way that r speaks so highly of Gwayne at some point he thinks shes in love with G and that makes him hold her children legitimacy even more, poor r she’s thinking my sister didn’t have this hard did she?!

Do i also think he’d kill for her if someone else did it? Of course he may torment her about it, but only him no one else

Also also her dragon being very precious to her her speaking high valyrian to it, coddling (maybe like Syrax) the dragon, having terms of endearment and even teaching Daeron how to bond with Tesarrion and if her children do get eggs and they hatch oh boy, maybe they are gifts from viserys no one can deny or return so now old town has 2 grown dragons and 2 little ones running around lol

The way she coddles her dragon would make Ormund demand to be treated the same😂😂

ooo well the dragon advantage is a great point and MAYBE just MAYBE ormund would let the dragon eggs be kept BUT there is no way he’s going to let them be put into the cradles and they will have to be chained up like Tessarion (even if that does limit their growth)

ormund definitely holds what him and reader did over her head. like all the time. especially when her and gwayne seem like the perfect, dream couple on the outside — whereas ormund is the only one who knows the truth. he gaslights her constantly and makes her feel guilty for being affectionate towards HER OWN husband. like she compliments gwayne in front of someone or says something like ‘yes, he is a lovely husband and a chivalrous knight’. ormund mocks her for it later ‘your lovely chivalrous husband couldn’t even properly bed you’ he’s just that kind of asshole

he would definitely kill for her, no hesitation. we see how he was with the hightower knight and the man he forced daeron to kill. to him the lives of those below him are significantly insignificant.

she just brings such an amazing air of targaryen royalty and valyrian culture to oldtown which he CANNOT STAND. the dragons (especially their foul stench) if the children have white hair, the high valyrian, he is seething about it and wants to uproot all of it. he limits the time she gets to spend with her dragon and forbids her from practicing high valyrian, deeming it a barbarian and uncivilized language.

there are just so many details and ideas 🚬

ormund hates dragons. canon. now imagine the dragon constantly being moody and growling around him but not around gwayne. rip. he would hate the dragon even more.

and when r takes the kids flying, he nearly gets a heart attack and gets the poor beast executed. he endlessly goes on about her being foolish and should not having let HIS children go near that beast let alone fly on it, not without asking permission from him first anyway. and she’s like ‘well, i asked gwayne… they are his kids by law.’ ormund nearly strangles her, like… metaphorically but also physically. this is a toxic relationship ok? What is Gwayne like as the "father" to his and reader's children? 👀

okay okay , now this is super interesting to explore.

first of all, i think gwayne (as we see in hotd) is incredibly honorable and empathetic so he would do his best to be a good father figure even when he knows the children aren’t his (because him and reader never consumated the marriage), this is all considering he doesn’t know or assume that ormund is the father. because otherwise he would probably feel profoundly disturbed and betrayed. (as he should lmao)

he would definitely coddle them when they are newborns, he seems like such a great father person, he would help reader while breastfeeding, when the babies are crying and wailing through the evening he is there to comfort them even when there are plenty of wetnurses to take care of them. he insists. it’s the least he can do.

he would teach them how to wield a sword but also the responsibility and values of being a knight (if we’re talking about boys) he would see them as his kids. no matter that he knows they biologically aren’t his. the one thing he always found strange however is that they do look like… hightowers. but he brushes it off, thinking reader probably just slept with someone who has similar looks. (peak denial, his mind WILL NOT even stray to ormund, it’s that deep)

so yeah, overall i think gwayne would be a great boydad/girldad considering all of the circumstances and he’d do his best to raise the children in a loving manner :(

when the children begin calling gwayne father or dad or whatever… well let’s just say ormund is NOT happy about it. i feel like he’d start undermining his own cousin and throw in some comments when gwayne is away like ‘well your father isn’t here, is he? but it’s alright I am here.’ he definitely complains to reader and when she even SLIGHTLY wants to confront him and say something like ‘well they are his children…’ ormund would crashout like in that one scene and be like DO NOT PLAY THE FOOL WITH ME. it is enough that everyone thinks they are gwayne’s kids. NOT YOU TOO. poor girl just nods and agrees because really what else can she do?

maybe at first he tries to play along and be nonchalant but nahh it just doesn’t work with him like that. like imagine a lady complimenting their son/daughter on her beautiful hair or nose or something saying something along the lines of ‘you and gwayne have made such beautiful creatures!’ and reader is just blushing, politely thanking her while ormund is staring daggers at the woman but not before adding ‘yes. hightower genes are strong.’ and he proceeds to glare at reader who just raises both her brows.

poor gwayne is probably too embarrassed to ask about who reader took into bed because he definitely knows it wasn’t him… aka that the children aren’t his. he feels like he has no right. but also i think he’d catch on not long after he realizes how much ormund truly cares about her kids but then he’d probably be in denial for a while before admitting it …

I like to think its much like Harwin and Rhae's relationship (as in it spans years, if you know what I mean) and while he isn't exactly subtle about it but nobody can prove anything, esp the hair, since unlike rhae, laenor, and harwin, gwyane and ormund are related and so they probably have some semi similar features and so nobody would even know (ANDDDD they just quietly chalk it up to him trying to be a good "uncle"(???) When he wants to hold the baby!!

during the pregnancy itself he would be overly involved and invested in every detail but he only insists it’s because gwayne is away on campaign and well someone has to look after poor reader… one more thing daeron would be the first one to catch onto everything. he’s an intelligent kid okay.

and if reader ends up injured or hurt — oh ormund would not see an end to it. he would berate gwayne ENDLESSLY. about failing his duty as husband, that he cannot even protect his wife, that he has shamed the gods and the name of house hightower.

ormund would also demand a report from the maester who tends to reader, spying on her through her handmaidens. to him it’s just looking out for her and being cautious. nothing weird and unhinged about it right?

and then the birth itself… oh lord. if gwayne IS there ormund would just be fuming in front of the door debating if he should risk it all and barge in or poor daeron would have to deal with keeping him chill, take him to the sept to pray or sum. and if Gwayne isn’t there (which ormund would probably arrange actually) he would insist once again reader needs the support and someone to be there for her nevermind that she’s asking for ormund anyway…

and if the maester refuses to let him inside? well let’s just say he is no longer a maester.

maybe after a few years around reader’s second pregnancy he would keep sending gwayne off for longer and longer campaigns until at one point he’s like “wait… what if i just annul their marriage since gwayne is never in oldtown anyway”. peak manipulation gaslighting tactics right there.

i feel like he wouldn’t deliberately hurt gwayne because they are still family and grew up together. honor and duty are very important to him. it is what brought him into this mess in the first place (a mess of his own making mind you because if he was straight in the head he would have outright refused you).

yeah and then poor daeron would just witness all of this and be like what the fuuuck.

so there are two possible paths here:

one: Ormund agrees to perserve his cousin’s honor and sleeps with his wife, because in any case if the babies have auburn hair or look slightly like him it could just be written down to genetics. now the issue here is, we know ormund to canonically be a VERY proud and VERY religious man, so this does sound kind of ooc … like you expect this man not to be overprotective during the entire pregnancy and not burst into the birthing chambers and demand to hold the children first ESPECIALLY if it’s a boy. yeah no.

but anyway imagine him and r bonding so much that even the ladies and lords begin to think ‘wait, is something happening here?’, but again as we have seen ormund is very cunning and i feel like he wouldn’t be so sloppy about hiding his affections. so it would be more like a hidden affair, late evening meetings, or in the sept during prayer …

two: he immediately just offs gwayne. like he sends him away or something… in which case he asks the high septon to annul their marriage because gwayne is khm let’s say … ‘overburdened and unable to take proper care of his wife’ or some bullshit like that. he’d be super strategic and political about it too, wanting to keep everyone’s reputation immaculate and clean. in the eyes od both gods and men. someone has to persevere the honor of house hightower !!
