The dangers of falling for the 'verify your account' scam.
I need to stress this as it can't be more important now than ever:
Never, ever, give a random website your credit card, name, address, phone number, and more importantly, your social security number.
This is a screenshot of the code taken from the 'verify your account' scam. At some point on this fake web page, not only is it going to ask you to pay them $100+, it's going to ask for your SSN:
Not only that, but it's set up in ways to ask for more money in increments of $100, $150, $200, and then an unspecified amount:
And if you're a UK citizen? It gets way worse. They want you to fill out a check and then take a picture of it and send it to them:
And yes, the person they want you to send it to's information is on there. I already reported it to the bank. I'm not sure if it's the person running the scam or a money mule, either way it's illegal as hell.
[tumblr] would never EVER ask for this kind of stuff from you. EVER.
[tumblr] did not require your SSN, photo ID, or money when you signed up, they won't be asking for it now.
