my mom used GenAI to do some “design brainstorming” for our front porch knowing full well I can draw whatever idea she has in her mind to help with visualizations if needed. I criticized her on this decision, and her rebuttal was essentially “Well everyone’s using it”.

if everyone jumped off a building, would you do it?

I know this isn’t the most fair of comparisons, but genuinely seeing people use GenAI when other resources are available, resources that have long existed before GenAI makes me feel like I’m watching a bunch of people throw their brains off a cliff.

And this isn’t even a case of “boomer not technologically up to date”. I love her so much, she’s extremely intelligent. But she WORKS WITH AI. Both the kind that’s existed since forever, and GenAI. She designs parts which data centers have been gobbling up for the past few years. She has a clear blind spot and bias that she’s just not willing to acknowledge and sometimes when I’m having a conversation with her I feel like I’m at my wits end.

I play a lot of variety games (like a lot), I draw, and in the summer I build many models kits, some toku, some lego, some miscellaneous

I’ve been doing this on and off for the past 2 years and I’ve finally decided I’ll set a small goal of 200 followers for myself before the year ends
