Except Elias is actually worshipping every mark on the Archivist's body that is the fruition of centuries of planning, and keys to finally reaching his life goal.

He's not loving Jon, he's worshipping his archive.

Obsessed with how Jonah is in love with Jon.

Not in a romantic way, not even in a remotely normal way. He's in love with him the way a creator is in love with his masterpiece. He so carefully and lovingly shaped him, pushed him to his boundaries, built him into the key to achieve his vision. And he's fascinated by how perfect Jon turned out to be. He's obsessed with him. He needed him to rule the world beside him. Jon is the only one Jonah wouldn't have tried to step over or get rid off, he wants him there.

Jon is precious and perfect and he wants to put him in a glass box and just stare at him for eternity where there's only the two of them in a world of suffering.

gertrude's murder was so crucial to tma and no one seems to talk about just how important it is

because sure, her absence is what lead to jon getting the position of head archivist.

but her murder is what lead him to uncover the main antagonist of the series, and if elias hadn't outright personally killed her, it's possible that no one would have registered him to be their enemy.

by the s1 finale jon admits that he believed in the supernatural the whole time. he knows there are malevolent supernatural forces preying on humans. that's nothing new to him. what IS new to him is that someone at his workplace is a murderer.

if he had found out elias is an avatar WITHOUT him first finding out that elias brutally murdered at least two people, it might have been taken as 'not all avatars are bad', or 'people become avatars against their will, and that's a tragedy we don't know how to avoid'- both of which are true statements, but aren't particularly relevant in the context of elias.

instead of the big reveal being 'elias is a supernatural force of evil', it's 'elias is a very human force of evil. elias has killed 2 people by means of gun and blunt force trauma. elias can and will beat you in a physical fight because he has at least one gun, and given gun laws in the UK, chances are you've got zero.'

I love the thought of the archives having what essentially amounts to a decontamination chamber, both for the sheer bafflement of the og archives crew upon its discovery and as a patently ridiculous logistical solution for all the characters who end up living there over the course of canon. it makes perfect sense given the general demands of the archival department but is nonetheless extremely silly to imagine in practice. you ask if they have showers and the answer is "yeah just make sure they're not set to acid wash"

you thought jon casually telling martin 'yeah I brought a bed to my place of employment you can sleep there' was bad just imagine him trying to explain his mundane usage of a literal hazmat machine

j: oh yeah I've tested out the terrifying industrial grade cleansing cell and it's safe to use btw. the water pressures a bit much but other than that it's actually really convenient to have around

m: wait. hold on. you're saying that you locked yourself inside an ancient hermetically sealed metal box you didn't understand on the off-chance it'd serve as a functional substitute for a shower

j: ... well when you put it like that it sounds stupid and insane

when the s1 gang first see it sasha says jon should ask elias about it, because like, what the fuck, and jon immediately panics because oh god what if this is something he's supposed to know. what if asking will make him appear unqualified for the position

anyway he does not ask elias about it, which is a shame, because while I'm not sure what Elias's go-to response would be I am confident that it would be hilarious
