Today’s more is a classic one: Ranking different fortune tellers. It’s an easy way to generate some fun commentary all while promoting a new product, the viewers eat it up.
The first few fortune tellers are mildly disappointing: a lucky cat that hardly works, a Darth Vader which refuses to give a straight answer, and a stress ball with predictable outcomes. None of them are a patch on the mythical fortune teller - thank god.
Then came the fish. A classic novelty toy we’ve all seen before in Christmas crackers or joke shops. Writhing around on Rhett’s hand - it works as expected - yet the truths it reveals are anything but.
”Okay, the movements of the fish are supposed to tell you your fortune, ask it a question Link” Rhett looks over at his salt and pepper haired best friend.
Link knows exactly what he wants to say. They‘ve reached the point in the episode where they’re just having fun with it. The mythical beasts have expressed how much they love episodes that are less serious so Rhett and Link luxuriate in it, giving the people what they want.
”Will I ever find love?” Link whispers suggestively towards the fish in his hand.
The crew hums in silence, Rhett glances up at link who has a slight smirk on his face, he laughs awkwardly, spiking the camera
“Alright.” The crew laughs. A lens zooms in on the fish, curling up in Link’s palm.
“Okay the head and tail are curling up, what does that mean?”
Rhett glances down at the key “uh head and tail? ‘In Love’!” he looks up, beaming.
Link grins widely, the crew exclaims in a chorus of “Ooohs” and laughter.
”Alright, I guess I’m in love. I don’t know with who.”
”The fish isn’t that specific“ Rhett chimes. “Well maybe we can ask one of these other ones, how about the pickle.” He takes the object out of its packaging.
”Who am I in love with?” Link asks the pickle expectantly.
”Take a closer look” replies a booming voice from the pickle.
”ohh like.. in this room? Nope this is a workplace“ Link corrects himself quickly.
”yeah man, these are employees let’s be clear.” Rhett laughs awkwardly and leans towards the camera.
”well not you, Rhett, remember?” Stevie interjects over the intercom, reminding the boys of Link’s tour blunder, “you’re his real friend.”
”that’s right! You got a crush on me, man?” Rhett teases, inciting laughter among the crew.
Link hides his face in his hands in an attempt to hide his blushing cheeks. “okay what’s next.” He swiftly changes the subject.
As they reach the end of their products the video cuts. Rhett and Link rise from the desk, heading to the dressing room to wrap up the day.
”hey man,” Rhett puts his hand on Link’s shoulder “sorry if I embarrassed you out there with that whole crush thing”
“oh it’s cool man, just a joke, right?” Link stares at his shoes, not daring to face Rhett after today’s shoot. He hoped he was playing it cool but everyone knows that’s not his area of expertise. Rhett notices his odd demeanour, and smirks knowingly. He inches closer to the shorter (but still taller than average) man
”Yeah, for the cameras..Right.” Link still refuses to make eye contact, his skin is suddenly blazing hot as he notices his proximity to his friend. They’ve been close before, of course, they’ve been best friends since they were kids, but this wasn’t fooling around during church services, they were grown now, this was real.
”There are no cameras here Link,” Rhett‘s voice is low and tempting, “you don’t have to pretend”
Link glances up for the first time, finally his eyes reach Rhett’s. It stings, but he’s locked in on him. Rhett brings his arms up to Link’s waist, holding him gently, his gaze never wavering from those ocean blue eyes. He leans closer, breath heavy, a layer of fog formed on Link’s glasses. Rhett figure was alike a handsome cryptic through the veil of spittle on the lenses. This was everything he dreamed of, was it really happening?
”Is this really happening?” Link whimpered in the taller man’s shadow.
”You tell me.” Suddenly, Rhett closes the gap between the two, their lips interlocked as though they were each other’s missing piece. Link’s grip on Rhett tightens, all his fears melted away as they embraced each other.
Parting was no easy task, after so many years of yearning Link wanted to stay there, drinking in this feeling forever, but his wishes were denied as soon as that knock came on the door.
“Guys we need thumbnail pictures.” Jenna interrupted.
Thankfully the boys separated in time, though Link was somewhat dishevelled and Jenna was none the wiser.
The silence was deafening once the door closed, they were breathless. Link’s eyes returned to his shoes, but before they could lock onto the floor, Rhett lifted his chin with his index finger.
