Overlock Stitch by @clothes_reetzy
Hey i’m a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. I’ve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. I’ll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

Updated just now with new hand sewing resources (mainly buttonholes) and textbook pdfs on fashion history, fashion illustration, and thinking through designs!
OP I owe you my life
OP you are the greatest person currently in my life. You beautiful, thoughtful creature.
You are a saint thank you so much
@thiamma look!
We will never not reblog this.

Man I wish this was easier!
Latest micro-hobby obsession of mine is modifying this $30 leather jacket from the thrift store.
First I stitched this back patch on. I bought it a year ago but waffled on how to affix it to the jacket- it was an iron on, but I doubted the adhesive would do well with leather. But then also, hand stitching through two tough materials would be a bitch! In the end I just decided, who needs fingers anyhow? I went through a lot of bandaids but it’s on there!
Then I started spiking it. This part is so satisfying and fun and I’m just going to keep doing it in little spurts until the whole thing is covered. Like a hedgehog.
Anyway lads, don’t hammer your face bones. Hammer holes into your jacket instead and then put spikes and studs into them. Better return on investment I think.
Here’s how it’s going currently. I’d say it’s a third of the way done maybe?
I love it when he looks up at me like this 🩶
@staff what's up with the 2nd review submit button? A post of mine got flagged as mature content but there was no way to submit an appeal because I kept getting an error message. Uncool! Also, straight up, just let tumblrinos be sexy again, what the hell.
Another thing I’ve been working on recently is custom polewear. My instructor commissioned a scale mail set, so I am experimenting with ways to create something conducive to pole dancing. There are a million ways to make scale armor, but this project has situationally specific concerns!
My first thought was to use plastic scales to avoid scratching the pole with metal. The next idea I had was to create a base garment and make scale panels that would detach- that way the garment can be washed, and won’t have jump rings as the stress points. It has to move with the dancer and be comfortable and durable.
These are the scales we chose!
We decided on a shape and I made a prototype of the base garment, shown here. I wore it to a freestyle pole party and while the bottoms worked great, the top did NOT hold the nips in. While that’s not a dealbreaker in performance, it’s distracting and annoying if you’re not planning on it. I’m reworking the construction of the top so that it’s more secure, but the bottoms were ready for prime time!
We wanted the fabric and the scales to match somewhat, so I found this dead stock 4 way stretch and lined it with black swimsuit fabric I had in the stash. Additionally, the dancer wanted a thong back, so we added a third O-ring. I connected them with adjustable straps I made from the spandex and lingerie sliders. Sliders are a game changer for me!!! It really helps make sure things fit securely.
Stay tuned for updates! Like my frustrations with how fiddly scale mail is- regular 4-in-1 chain mail is fine once you get the hang of it, but the scales are hella annoying!
Ok, top pieces made- I think they might actually need additional cross straps in the back to stay put. I have a fitting with the client tonight and if it’s basically okay, I’ll finish off with top stitching. (It looks a bit ill-fitting on my body, obvs. The dress form has a few weird dimensions that make it hard to use for one-piece bodysuits.)

We did a shoot in my house, including my crappy sun porch. I love that thrift store bustier! I often have great luck at thrift stores.
Ex-libris by the Catalan artist Alexandre de Riquer (1856-1920), made around the year 1900. These ones are some of the examples preserved in the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC).
An ex-libris, also called bookplate, is a kind of printed stamp at the beginning or end of a book that says who owns it (think of the stamp you surely have seen in the books owned by a library). Though ex-libris have been used since ancient times, their "golden age" in Catalonia was during the Modernist movement (the Catalan equivalent of Art Nouveau), where many bookworm people commissioned artists to have a beautiful personal ex-libris that they could use to stamp all their collection.
The text in the 1st one, written in the Catalan language, says "no matter how much you know, there's always much more that you don't know" (per molt que sapies es molt mes lo que ignores).

Jesus Tapdancing Christ... THIS is a good welt pocket and the people who designed Simplicity 2895 ought to be blasted well ASHAMED of themselves for the crap way THEY wanted a welt pocket made. *SNARLS*
This is how I learned to do it and a good example of what you want to see in a short form tutorial: pinning, pressing, seam finishing, good fabric handling.
I would mention that you can make the pocket facing with a small panel of your matching fabric that is visible and the rest in a lighter fabric to reduce bulk. That's a lot of denim layers for comfort.
Sewing "a little bit" is one of the most useful skills you can possibly have proportional to how cheap and easy it is to learn.
So many of the items in our daily lives are sew-able. A simple needle and thread changes the way you think. When an item breaks, you no longer think, "I guess I must buy a new one..." Instead, you think, "I guess I must fix it..."
How many of these everyday items rest for eternity in a landfill, because of a simple break that a needle and thread could have fixed? How many excess items were manufactured to make up for the forgetting of the humble needle and thread...?
I love you, needle and thread...
This is just, like, my opinion, man- but I think dudes love Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) because it is a fantasy about having close male friendships.
