#remember when jeremy gilbert was suitably awed by the brilliance that is bonnie bennett: superhero? #and one of the cornerstones of their relationship was the fact that this kid was foolishly ridiculously mesmerised by every thing she did #and not just her magical abilities but her strength and her commitment to helping people even if she hated being in the middle of things? #and how he couldn’t help but find ways to be around her because all of these parts of her were so magnetic? #how when to everyone else she was an invisible lackey he was the only person who bothered to SEE her #and she - who was perfecting the art of putting up walls and not letting anyone in on her vulnerabilities allowed him to? #oh and remember that time when he was perfectly content to take her lead on things #because she was the powerhouse and he felt no insecurity in acknowledging that? #and how he’d tote around her candles or her grimoire or any other magical paraphernalia #and be helplessly stimulated by the simple act of watching her chant a spell or burn scraps of paper with her mind? #and how she was lady witch goddess to his hopelessly loyal champion #and how sometimes he would be stupidly reckless in his attempts to ‘protect’ her. #because he’s a gilbert and gilberts do stupid things. #and even though it was grating it was also wonderful #because no one else in mystic falls cared enough to stick their necks out for bonnie #to be foolish and reckless and overbearing and idiotically heroic because they valued her and her life. #and it was a novel and beautiful thing because the last time we’d seen anyone sacrifice for bonnie (grams) - they died. #remember that? #i know there were issues with this ship. i get it. but jeremy’s devotion to bonnie was written unstintingly.

And yet. AND YET! JP can’t see anything in this ship. She can say shit like, “Damon and Elena’s relationship have played out in her bedroom and on the porch,” and she’ll retcon shit to make it so that Damon met Elena first, but she can’t see anything in BonniexJeremy, the only relationship the Bonnie character has ever been written to have. The only relationship she’s allowed this character on her show, and she doesn’t see jack shit in it. She looks at it and she wonders why it lasted so long and why it existed in the first place. Jeremy/Anna was more legit. So legit that she retconned it into an epic thing when she brought Anna back in season 3. Damon gets under Elena’s skin; Stefan can’t die so that’s why Elena likes him; both Salvatores are in love with Elena’s light or whatever the fuck; Klaus is captured by Caroline’s light; Tyler loves Caroline because “How can anyone not love her?” and Matt is always feenin’ for Elena. But Bonnie and Jeremy only had a moment that will stay with them forever. Ask her why, and she’d be more lost than a motherfucker. She wouldn’t be able to answer. She’ll show us why the other couples can’t let go (even if the reasons are bullshit). She’ll have Forwood talk about how “Maybe it wasn’t meant to be” while ugly music drowns out their dialogue in the school parking lot, but BonniexJeremy? Well we’ll just have to use our imaginations while she makes sure to not give them any scenes whatsoever, let alone have them reference their relationship.
