remione first kiss [christmas]
hermione had too much to drink. that was obvious. from the precarious grip on her wine glass to her unsteady steps, she’d celebrated this christmas with a bottle, at the least.
she’d gone around the den, hugging harry and then ginny and then ron, professing her undying love for all of them. ron had tried to kiss her underneath a magic sprig of mistletoe that sprouted above them. she playfully swatted him away, scolding him with the sternest look she could muster. she downed the rest of her glass and handed it to ron with a wink.
wandering into her flat’s front room, she found remus sitting pensively. he was gazing at her tree, a small, thin fir lit with several strings of muggle lights. she’d charmed a few baubles, but couldn’t give up those lights. they were the same ones her mum used to hang up. with a grunt, she sat down next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder to steady herself. “white christmas” came on the radio; bing crosby’s crooning somewhat drowned out the chatter from the kitchen.
“very lovely,” he said and smiled at her. his glass of butterbeer was empty at his side.
“yes,” replied hermione. “the tree is lovely.”
remus blushed. “ah yes, the tree is as well.”
hermione took a moment; her mind was not as sharp as usual. “what else was lovely then?” she nudged him.
he avoided looking at her. “nothing. forget that. sorry.”
a silly, stupid grin crossed her face and she rested her head on his shoulder. “oh you,” she said, “you are such a prat sometimes.”
“excuse me? did you just call me a prat?” he looked over at her. his face glowed in the christmas lights. his hair hung in his eyes and his scars seemed softer.
“a very, very lovely prat,” said hermione. she smiled. “you know what we need?”
she attempted to whisper, but failed miserably. “mistletoe.”
hermione had lifted her head and was very close to him now. he could feel the warmth from her body, could smell her perfume and the wine she’d drank. she bit her lip as she studied his face. her hand brushed against his on the floor.
“we don’t need any,” remus said. her hand left his and now lay on his thigh. he pulled her those few inches closer, felt her pulse quicken as his hand rested on her neck. and he kissed her, closing his eyes, letting her lips and that warm glow wash over him.
