Game on!

So I just finished Game on by Navessa Allen and I absolutely loved it!!! I love Stella and Tyler and how messy they both are! I loved that Tyler has actual issues and that his anger problems arent just turned on and off as needed. It made it feel way more interesting. Same with their almost opposite issues with food. I loved that both sides were being talked about and how Stella's gastritis was made way more personal by being something the author deals with. I can't imagine how frustrating having that would be. and it being contrasted with Tyler's food insecurity! All this to say I love how they work together and how messy they both are. unlike Lauren and Junior, and Ali and Josh I actually was constantly wondering if they would stay together by the end of the book! And narratively I would have liked both options!

The one thing I wish there was more of is AJ and a lot of that is I'd love a good poly romance in a more mainstream novel. But I supposed from a publisher perspective that might seem like a big ask. I would have loved to see more of him though because from the perspective we see hes like weirdly perfect and I wanna know what he's got going on. why he obviously seems into Stella but never really made a move? I'm just really curious since like the others would listen to him?? Theres so much there! I want more!

Like if Navessa Allen wanted to write a book about the family dinners I'd read it lol! this is how much I wish there was more to this whole series. But like I'd love a whole book with Tyler Stella and AJ going full vigilante but I'd also like a book of just how the 3 work together? Like what I'm trying to say is I wish there was more and now I'm going more onto how much I want more of the series as a whole and I should probably make that its own post cuz I have lots of feelings and while I'm excited about how much I liked this book I'm kinda sad that its the last in the series.

the woobles

this isn't anything big but I'm kinda proud of myself because I like woobles kits and they're what taught me to crochet. I like that I dont have to think about all the things I have to get to make it the first time its ALL in the kit like hook stitch markers everything except I guess scissors but like thats kinda the thing you can assume everyone has somewhere. but I'm picking up one of the kits and I realized I have to frog their magic ring to do it again so I have less gapping! the fact that I'm at a level that I'm like it will be better if I do it myself makes me happy! like I'm under no delusion that like I'm some expert crocheter but its just looking from where I started! I'm proud of myself. I also finished a tank top last night that I free handed just looking at a tutorial for general reference and like I'm wearing it right now thinking I'd have NO issue wearing this out in public! like thats crazy to me! like obviously I'd make some changes looking back on it but the fact that I didnt use a pattern just a video to see how someone else did it and went "ok I'll do that but I'll do a little extra of this to tailor it more to my body and preference" and ended up with a top I'd willingly wear! thats crazy! its super simple but I'm proud!

farm sim quandry

I'm looking at moonlight peaks so hard! I kept checking their steam page to see if it was out yet yesterday. Once it was I just stared at the price, honestly I think the price is reasonable for a new game but I'm comparing it to all the games that have been on sale recently and my own personal sweet spot ( I have found I'm much more succeptable to getting a game I want if the price is 15 or under). now I'm just torn because I want it but I know part of that is just wanting to get something for my self because well its been A month! Then theres the whole I just picked up coral island after a while of not playing it and do I really NEED another farm sim right now. At this point its more do I want to show my support immediately or wait (like it would be perfect during spooky season). I think I'm just torn because I know I'm susceptible to retail therapy right now and I'm trying to be better about that. But I do kinda want it...

my first successful? wearable! the question mark is more cuz theres a little bit of hangoff at the armpit but honestly I'm proud because the first wearable i made was a tank top that had some weird excess fabric at the neckline (that I have a plan to turn into a collar thing but i need to figure out how to pin it so i can sew it properly) and then a poncho I made I accidentally treble crocheted when I meant to double and I was too deep in to correct it so I committed, not realizing that by doing that I essentially made a wearable blanket! but I love this and making it really upped my confidence in the wearable area. It definitely helped that it was a raglan so I could try it on as I went and could figure out where I needed to do some increases! I could definitely learn how to put increases in more intentional places but this was a huge jump! I got the pattern from the make and do crew its their sigfrid beginner crochet raglan sweater! I have some more shirts I've made since this but they're halter tops and I'm not sure how to take pics of them properly without wearing them? might be something I need to think on!

I’m finally getting back into reading! That’s kinda crazy to me because it’s not like I’m just checking out audiobooks and playing games or crafting while listening like I normally do. I’m just sitting down and reading on my kobo (it would have been even crazier if I picked up my physical book). But this just feels wild to me because for the past couple weeks when I had time to myself that wasn’t something I could just willingly sit down and do. Normally it’s like I feel the need to maximize my break time.

I just finished The Ressurectionist by Kathleen S. Allen

First off I have to think netgalley for sending me this book! It came as an extremely pleasant surprise when I needed one. This is a really interesting Frankenstein retelling? I’m not sure if that’s the right word for it but it’s definitely Frankenstein inspired if anything! I will admit I had a very slow start to this book but once the first resurrection happens it really started to pick up for me! The dynamic between the two sisters is fascinating and so is the relationship between Odile and her deceased father. I will admit I wish that the latter relationship was explored upon more because were given a sort of reason for the way he treats her but I don’t know I just wish there was more development there! Because there’s an obvious difference in how he treated the two while he lived and it could be argued that that difference may have set off the whole story. Then there was the whole twist at the end (I’m going to talk vaguely but the fact that I’m talking about it at all makes me feel like this is spoilers territory) but like I feel like it counters everything she feels about how resurrection affects their morality and like I get that it was hinted at with how they mention her actions as a kid but the fact that she’s even thinking about it proves she has SOME moral compass so like while I don’t think it’s a full plot hole I feel like it should have been explored a lot more?

Overall the book is a fun and interesting read. Once I got into it it went pretty quickly too but it’s definitely not a book I normally would have reached for

I just finished reading The Poet Empress by Shen Tao

And I’m still sitting here reeling over so many things! How I guessed the ending in the beginning but some how Im still shocked by it! The fact that this is the saddest feminine rage book I ever read yet I somehow love that for it! How I even pity the monsters in this story for they were not born they were made. The fact that it inspired me to write something that sappy! Let’s just say Im impressed and I may have to get this for my personal collection after all this (I had checked it out from the library after I saw that a book club on fable was reading it)

Wylde Flowers!

I finished the main story! It’s been a long time and it traveled from ipad to my steam deck (heck I think it was the sole reason I kept Apple Arcade for as long as I did). I love how this game chooses to do storytelling. The whole grandma’s still alive at the beginning thing and having to say goodbye to her hit hard! But like in the best way. I remember originally thinking that they’re shoe horning a lot of real life stuff into this game and thinking it kinda felt pretentious at the time but playing it now it feels refreshing? Like thats kind of hard to explain because it’s not like I disagreed with some of the concepts they put in but I guess I thought it was pandering? But now I’m kinda seeing it in a “oh you get it!” Way. Perhaps it’s just where I am in life? Or maybe thats just the state of things right now? I think thats more likely it. Living on an island where there’s a political crisis and you are just doing your part to make it better through working on your farm and casting spells on the side feels a little like wish fulfillment right now. I guess thats why it took me so long to give more attention to this game.

I honestly think this game has a lot of replay-ability because while I accidentally wooed Damon I was fully looking at a few other characters that would be fun to see how they romance. I also am fully aware that I didn’t unlock everything yet. Theres the bigger greenhouse and shed and I know there’s animals I haven’t unlocked yet. I think there’s also whole other characters who haven’t come to the island yet? I only know this because I saw this as an update like maybe months ago? Years? I’m not sure I just know I’m not done done yet! Which is fun to know I just know I have to put it to the side for now and absorb what I played through. But honestly I love how they use story telling and the witchy aspect in this farm sim! It definitely makes it stand out!

So I’ve been planning on using this spot as a hobby tracker because I really want to talk about my hobbies! But I feel like I needed to have an introduction of some sort! So Hi I’m riddle and I have hobbies! I am a stay at home mom who I guess is rediscovering her self. Which that sounds dramatic and when I think about it …. But it kind of is! I used to reject a lot of things I wanted to do because I didn’t think they had a real benefit, mostly because I was looking at the physicality of it and the profitability of it. Which sounds so silly thinking back on it. I remember a little after having my daughter I was drawing and I was telling my husband what I was doing and I was kinda going off of a reason that created monetary profit and he again asked me “why?’” which created a lot of rambling on my end and fumbling for an answer and I eventually landed on “I wanted to” He then asked me why I didnt just start with that, which lead to a years long journey that then lead to this! And where ever this leads!

I struggle with things being done just for the joy of it but since having a kid I’m realizing it’s so freaking important!

But ya! Ultimately I’m starting this because I want to share my hobbies and my experiences with them. I always have been on tumblr as a viewer and rarely as someone who actually posted (with the exception of when I had an art blog on here but that died Real Fast). I don’t know if intros are really a normal thing to post but I guess from back in my booktok days I felt like I should have one. I don’t know how often I’ll post I want this to be a because I want to thing and not a because I feel like I have to thing (which is also connected to my booktok days? Hmmm maybe I should explore that)

My whole life I've known that you must leave at least one mistake in your knitting or crochet or tapestry, because spirits/demons can get lost in the perfection of the stitches and be unable to find their way out.

If you don't want a haunted scarf, you have to leave a mistake as an exit point.

This is beautiful but I can't help but think that at least one of these originated with like, someone who fucked up their knitting and managed to convince everyone else it was intentional.

I'm almost certain this is what happened. Because whenever I am close to finishing a crochet project, especially something in the round where each row is more work than the last, and I find a mistake in the last row as I'm stitching into it

The closer I am to finishing and not wanting to undo 2h worth of work to change that one single into a double, the more likely I am to go "well. That's the demons stitch then isn't it", and leave it be.

The demon stitch absolutely gives my ocd toxic perfectionism a loophole to allow something to remain a mistake, which is why I choose to believe in it.
