Project 2: Flat mag
Final layout ! We did a loot of small changes from the first picture, but the main thing was that we found it a bit too busy with all the low opacity text in the background, so we removed some of it.
During printing we started by testing the colours - and good thing we did because we found the pictures to be too dark and with too much dimension to it. So we lowered the opacity and the final one is the last picture!
We’re quite satisfied with it!
Week 11 Exercise 8 : Logo
We were to design a logo for our own enterprise. I found this task quite difficult, because I wanted my logo to represent me, but in a really simple and professional way... because I'm not actually a graphic design student, but a product development engineer, I wanted to make a logo that had some common ground in both fields. And because both are made up of the creative process I wanted to use the ‘symbol’ or visualisation of this. The fuzzy front end - or middle. And I sort of think that this also represent really good how I do live my life :). I started by sketching some doodles, which I then vectorised, and I found a font which I liked. I tested whether or not to use my full name, but decided that it sound be the full. I still think this is a work in progress.. I want to work on maybe only making a typographic logo, but I felt like it would be too much work to start creating my own font at the moment.

Layout testing still.... We have written all our articles, but can't seem to settle on a layout.
After our presentation we were advised to do something at the top of the magazine to make some sort of consistency. We did the first layout then but still wasn't quite satisfied.
Therefore we did our 4th layout, with the illustration uncorrected to sort of see if this were more us. And we got hooked on this layout! it was just more light and had det flowy feel to it as we wanted.
We also got our colours matched up throughout our illustrations and pictures.

Testing the duotone colour technique. We didn't really know how to do the duotone properly - but learned that if we play with the contrasts as well the result would be much better. Furthermore we had forgotten to change the first pictures to CMYK - colouring and therefore it got a weird look...

We’re still testing some different ideas for the layout. We want it to be more organic and easy on the eye to look at, but still interesting as some of our inspirational layouts were.
Week 9 Exercise 7: create a designbrief, interview a classmate and design a logo for their business.
I interviewed Maddie Pleash for her logo-design. She wanted a professional and clean look for her photography company with focus on wedding photography and other portraits.
She wanted a simple camera incorporated in the logo and the colours gold and Pink.
I wanted to make her a logo that seemed timeless and professional. I started with trying out different font pairings and from one of the fonts I could sort of imagine a camera. I Drew a camera around the P in Pleash and implemented the colours by making a artistic paintbrush stroke in the background. But i didn’t really feel that this was the right way to go. It would have worked great for photography that had a more artsy focus. So I toned it down and decided that I should implement the colours directly in the text. I created this broken up lens to make it more interesting and coloured it gold. I think the logo is simple and professional looking.

We started testing some layout ideas. First we did the more geometic one but found that it didn't really flow that well, so we did the second one as an alternative layout.
Our concept had now develop into a ‘traveling’ magazine. A magazine that traveled to a new city every month, and that city would be the main topic of that months issue. Still with photography in focus.
Week 8 Exercise 6: Make four icons to narrate a movie. I find that i have difficulty trying to lower my detailing of illustrations and I found this exercise really helps to find how little is necessary for an illustration to still make sense
Project 2 : Flat mag design. We’re to design a flat magazine in groups of 4-5 people with the title ‘the wandering eye’.
In our group we started out by brainstorming concept ideas and we had a lot of great ideas! We eventually chose photography as a main topic and we created a joint pin-board at pinterest where we could put our inspiration in.
After a couple of days we went through it and chose the ones we liked the most and created this moodboard.
We were all quite fascinated with the sporadic of the text, with breaks the reading direction. But we thought that it fitted well with the topic ‘wandering eye’
we also came up with some ideas for articles and delegated them between us to write
Week 7 Exercise 5: Finally done! We where to make an appropriation design to put on a t-shirt. I had a difficult time making my mind up for what to do for this one. I chose to take a picture of the famous three monkeys that shows ‘don't see, don't hear and don't speak’ and i chose to flip the whole thing to ‘listen, look and shout’. The original three monkeys have been used to make fun of all sorts of things like i.e. politicians. Mine could apply for anything that has been overlook or ignored, i.e the climate and the monkeys make the statement that you should speak up and do something.
Not the best thing I’ve done....
Week 6 Exercise 4: Making an advertisement, where we should use imagery as a fun wordplay. I chose the bike helmet from the company called nutcase and played on the fact that they are called nutcase.
Aaaand here it is! The final layout for my calendar ! Simple and pretty! Love the tracing paper effect!

Working on my calendar project trying out different things with paper cutouts and tracing paper. I think I might have figured out how it should end up! next step inDesign and some test printings!
