Good article with a bad headline
Good article with a headline intentionally misrepresenting the point maliciously.
I remember some YouTuber tweeting like āTV shows are too political these days old shows like Fresh Prince didnāt have all this sjw bullshitā and like the first episode will and uncle phil talk very sternly about malcom x
If anything, sitcom shows even from Disney esp if they'reĀ black were bold in your face political about societal issues
ima just leave these here
Frankly popular media has always been political since the dawn of civilization when telling stories became a thing.
If you think āmedia used to be unpoliticalā, at least one of two things is happening:
1. You werenāt paying attention
Or 2. What was āpoliticalā then is now ācommon sense.ā
Or 3. You are white enough that you have no struggles and canāt acknowledge the struggles of others.Ā
The humor is black humor in its form. Itās completely built off our relation to racism. This was common sense to us. Every joke takes into account the history and our continued everyday struggle. The cop brutality is a prime example. He says nah Iām not putting my hands down he has a gun and next thing I know I can end up with 6 āwarningā shots in my back - If anyone remembers Mike Brown was an unarmed black man that was shot 6 times by a police officer and ended up dying which then ignited a new form of police brutality (it happens every couple of decades where thereās a undeniable incident and other people cannot shit there eyes to our reality and then it goes by into denial state until the next big act happens) now mind you, the fresh prince ended many years before this case so theyāre not referencing Brown himself but it just stands to speak on how relative it is.
For some reason people tend to think police brutality was someone new complaint we just created (literately had people go that arguement with me) when itās been a reality for blacks all along.
The fresh prince was literally created to speak on these topicsā¦The character Will was used to inform and speak on these topics and his cousin who hadnāt been as exposed to the realities of black struggle because of money was used as a sound wall for the audience. They used the concept of these two different young men to speak on both the subtle and the overt. Just like the younger female cousin was made young so she could grow into her womanhood and they can speak on those topics that women are most constricted over (sex, body control / image, respect, etc).
But thatās a lot shows from the 90ās - they werenāt there just to entertain but to also enlighten you. I def would say shows in the now are less up on actually speaking on important things. They promote that they are butā¦.š¤
Stop telling girls they have to be super heroes and not princesses. Stop telling girls that wanting to be a mother or a homemaker isnāt a real job. Stop telling girls that makeup isnāt art. Stop making fun of girls who like being in a relationship and looking for love. Ā STOP telling girls that femininity is bad. I thought being a feminist and being a womanās rights activist was about giving women the freedom to choose. Stop the internalized misogyny.Ā
there is nothing wrong with liking pink, glamour, bling, or diamonds. there is nothing wrong with having long hair or wearing frilly cute dresses. there is nothing wrong with wearing high heels or short skirts. there is nothing wrong with giggling and blushing. be who you are, be what you want to be, wear whatever the fuck you want, and donāt worry what anyone else think of you! and they can go eff themselves if they make fun of you or look down at you for being ultra girly.Ā
Well it's not about whether women can like these things. In society these things aren't really frowned up tbh. Men would much rather prefer women being girly than what women can do. I think let's stop limiting women in anyway shape or form. However let's acknowledge in society liking make-up being girly and wearing revealing clothes is very much pushed upon women to the point that women obsess over being seen feminine
CHINA IS TAKING OVER AFRICA š£š£š£
How so
China is legally, financially colonizing the entire continent by taking over Africaās infrastructure.
Theyāve have done so by making loans to African countries that they KNOW wonāt be able to pay them back. Once the country defaults China exacts repayment by taking over an aspect of their infrastructure. They took an airport and an electric grid in Tanzania and a port in Kenya
Yes! Thanks Queen š¤
The alleged data theft might put a strain on the relationship between China and African countries
^^Also just a little fun fact

Been knowing this. Itās terrible honestly.
During the most poor and homeless period of my life, I had a lot of people get angry with me because I spent $25 on Bath and Body Works candles during a sale. They couldnāt comprehend why the hell I would do that when I had been fighting for months to try and get us on our feet, afford food, and have an apartment to live in.
Those candles were placed beside wherever I slept that night. In the morning, I would move them and set them wherever Iād have to hang out. At one point I carried one around in my purse - one of those big honking 3-wick candles. I never lit them, but Iād open them and smell them a lot.
I credit that purchase with a lot of my drive that got me to where I am today. I had been working tirelessly, 15+ hour days with barely any reward, constantly on the phone or trying to deal with organizations and associations toĀ āget help atā. Itād gone on for almost a year by the end of it, and I was so burnt out, to the point that I would shake 24/7. But I could get a bit of relief from my 3-wickĀ āupper middle class lifestyleā candles. They represented my future goals, my home I wanted to decorate, and how I would one day not be in this mess anymore.
When we moved into the apartment, and our financial status improved, I burned those candles every single day. When they were empty, I cleaned them out, stuck labels on them, and they became the starting point of my really cute organization system I had ALWAYS planned to have.
So whenever I hear about someone very poor getting themselves a treat - maybe itās Starbucks, maybe itās a home deco item, maybe itās a video game⦠I donāt judge them. I get it. I get that you canāt go without anything for that long without it making you go crazy. You need to pull some joy, inspiration, and motivation from somewhere.
poor people deserve things they want, too. it is unfair to expect poor people to only buy things they āneedā.
My grandfather used to tell me: if you only have 20 kr left, you buy grocery for 10 kr and flowers for the other 10 kr because you need a reason to live as well.
We are not machines and an unmet need is an unmet need.
anyway animal rights activism will be inherently disingenuous and indeed actively harmful unless yāall recognize that 1) not every country has industrialized the consumption of meat to the extent that the west has 2) you absolutely need to prioritize human beings over animals given that basic humanity isnāt even afforded to a large fucking portion of the human population 3) your experiences are not universal and humans have been living off the land sustainably for literal millenia 4) capitalism is your enemy not poor people & people of color 5) stop fucking making slavery/holocaust anaologies. those are actual human beings. thanks
If you guys didnāt see some white girl posted a montage of her colonizer experience in Hawai'i and has been getting dragged for days now lmao Iām not gonna link it cause itās just her and some other haole girls she met her literally dancing on graves and sacred places and showing off her dirty hair.
But I did a little thread on why these romanticized ads of our home harms us (not super in depth but touches on some important points). And I was a lot nicer about it cause I actually do care if you come to visit and Iād actually prefer that everyone leave us alone forever but colonizers gonna colonize and settlers gonna settle š¤·š½āāļø
[Images: a tweet from user @WatkinsLondon that says: āThis year I packed up my life into a tiny suitcase and moved to a little rock in the middle of the ocean. I fell in love with Hawaii, I fell in love with these people. But above all, I fell in love with being aliveā.
This tweet is followed by a tweet thread from user @angelcurlsss that says:
āThat stupid video of that haole girl who moved here for 4 months is just showing how fucking ignorant the general population is about Hawai'i and what has happened/is happening to Native Hawaiians.
1. HAWAI'I IS AN ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED SOVEREIGN NATION.
2. Native Hawaiians (KÄnaka Maoli) used to make up 100% of the population. Itās estimated we make up about 20% of the stateās population now.
3. Hawai'i was once the most literate nation in the WORLD, about 91-95% of the kingdom by 1834.
4. āOlelo Hawai'i (native Hawaiian language) was illegal to teach in schools until 1978, but didnāt get taught again in schools until 1987. People donāt understand how recently they had their colonial policies forced on us. 1978⦠my mom was born in 1973. She couldāve been beat just for speaking her native tongue on her native land.
5. Despite making up less than a quarter of the stateās population, native Hawaiians make up about 60% of the prison population (mostly nonviolent crimes).
6. Native Hawaiians also make up most of the homeless population. Hawai'i has the largest population of homeless people per capita in the U.S.
7. As of 2018, the average price for a single family home in Hawai'i is $795K. There are no regulations for foreigners owning land.
Including (but not limited to) these facts and statistics, native Hawaiians are one of the most disenfranchised communities in Hawai'i. Our own āÄina. When people treat our home as a playground for their own selfish needs, they change everything here except the price of living. Native Hawaiians and locals are leaving Hawai'i by the dozens. They recently estimated it to be 11 locals leaving PER DAY.
I donāt care if you want to come visit. Our home is beautiful and I donāt blame people for wanting to see it. But I do care when you poison our land, romanticize our lifestyle, fetishize our people, and cheapen our culture. Unless youāre coming to pour money into our communities and work for our betterment and sovereignty (I know youāre not) you bring nothing of value to Hawaiians. Please come and enjoy, but donāt forget when itās time to leave.ā

Repeated Rapist andĀ Former Baylor frat president Jacob Anderson indicted for sexual assault will serve no jail time, not be registered as sex offender and only has to pay $400 fine
Anderson was accused of raping a 19-year-old woman at a 2016 off-campus party his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, threw under his leadership as frat president. During the party,Ā
Anderson took the woman, who was intoxicated after receivingĀ a drugged drinkĀ from him, outside to a āsecluded part of the groundsā where he then sexually assaulted as while she was gagged and choked. The victim lost consciousness during the attack, at which point Anderson left the scene, leaving her nearly choking to death on her own vomit.
Anderson was initially brought up on for these alleged crimes, and charged him with āunlawful restraintā instead, for which the office recommended three years of probation, a $400 fine, and counseling.
This is the 3rd case in which this same judge has been lenient towards sexual offenders.
