How much do you charge for commissions?

Not as much as I should tbh, but I’m afraid people will get mad if I make things too expensive… How much are people willing to pay anyway? I’ll decide tomorrow and make a fresh info post. I’ve been closed for way too long and I need the dosh

what you can do is calculate how long it takes to draw the commission and find an hourly wage.

If you mean timing each individual piece and charging on that basis, then it doesn’t work- one, it means customers can only get a very rough estimate of how much the piece will cost judging by how long I think it’ll take(which I will always underestimate), and there’s no payment security because I can’t demand any payment until all the work is done.

I’m going to charge per character like most sane people, the only problem is figuring out a rate. Even a single character can take anywhere from an hour to several hours depending on how complicated the character is, how tough the pose is, how weird the perspective is, etc etc. Sometimes even the most simple shit takes hours for no reason just because I’m trash! It’s a big mess, and the only way to avoid feeling as though I’m not getting paid enough is by seeing a rate based on a worst-case piece that takes me like 3 hours to a character. These happen, and when they do, it feels like an awful lot of work for how much I get. But isn’t doing that unfair to people who don’t want things quite as difficult?

That’s the question I’m dealing with at the moment

The idea with an "hourly" rate is that you time yourself on pieces and develop a system of "Okay, on average, I'm spending two hours per character, and I'd like to make $25 an hour, so I should charge $50 per character."
