amy’s pjo high school au (part 8)
“My wife and my ex-girlfriend. I caught my wife and my ex-girlfriend making out in a hot tub.”
“I hate you, Jason Grace, you will rue this day. I dislike you so heavily, you have no idea.”
Annabeth had apparently gotten into a tipsy competition with Leo over who could solve the most integrals in a shorter time (drunk nerds) and needed Piper to be a judge since she was the only one who could read both Annabeth and Leo’s sloppy handwriting when they were under the influence. Unbelievable. Her nerd friends pulled her away from a hot tub make-out session of her dreams so that they could do a calculus competition.
After Jason had found Piper and Reyna in the hot tub, they had quickly jumped off each other and gotten out of the tub. Piper ended up quickly toweling off and changing while she let Reyna loose in her bathroom, saying she could shower and dry off and pick anything out from her closet.
By the time Jason and Piper had found Annabeth and Leo, they were already over the math competition and were instead arm wrestling while Percy was watching their antics with amusement. Why Leo thought he was a match against Annabeth, Piper did not know. He lost within 10 seconds.
“Sorry, your wife and ex-girlfriend were doing what???”
“Making out in a hot tub. I repeat, Piper McLean and Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano were making out in a hot tub.”
Percy lifted a fist to Piper for a fist bump. Piper obliged.
“Wait so where is she now?”
“Um. Taking a shower in my bathroom.”
Percy lifted his fist again to which Annabeth swatted down.
Leo lifted his fist in Percy’s stead, which Piper fist bumped.
It had been getting late, so within around 40 minutes, the party had cleared out and only the main group was left hanging around. They were all planning on spending the night, so they each changed into the pajamas they brought and were helping clean up the party when Reyna walked downstairs, freshly showered and changed into Piper’s clothes.
“Reyna, I’m so so sorry about all of that. As I’m sure you’re aware, Jason Grace is an idiot.” Reyna nodded at that. “The party’s kinda over but my friends are spending the night and honestly you’re free to stay too if you want! We’re probably gonna watch scary movies and see who pisses their pants first.”
And just like that, it was Piper, Reyna, Leo, Jason, Annabeth, Percy, Hazel, Frank, Nico, and Will all paired up and lounging in Piper’s living room, cuddled in blankets with a horror movie playing on the flat screen TV.
Nobody ended up pissing their pants, but Leo came close.
“Di Angelo, you’re a fucking psychopath. How is this your favorite movie??”
“Shhh this is the best part.” Nico threw popcorn at Leo’s face.
“Aw, don’t be scared, Leo, your hunk of a boyfriend will protect you.” Percy winked at Jason.
“Don’t flirt with my man, Jackson.”
“I thought jealousy was unbecoming, Leo”
“I repeat, this is the best part.”
“You’ve been saying that the whole movie!”
“Because the whole movie is utter perfection, every part is the best part, so shhh.”
“It’s not fun watching a horror movie if someone is actively enjoying it instead of being scared.”
“Leo has a point.”
“Hazel, control your man.”
“Yeah, we should watch something that would scare Nico!”
“Good luck with that one. If you guys can’t even handle this movie I don’t think you’re gonna find a horror movie you can sit through that’ll scare me.”
“Who said anything about a horror movie?”
That’s how they ended up watching Legally Blonde on Halloween night. It was in part for the sake of Nico’s anguish, but mostly due to the fact that everyone was scared shitless with Nico’s recommendation and needed something that wouldn’t give them nightmares. Also, Nico actually loved this movie, but he played the part to keep up with his reputation. It was hard work being dark and brooding!
Piper, Annabeth, Percy, and Leo watched the movie saying the iconic dialogue along with the actors. Jason, Hazel, Frank, and Reyna watched almost hilariously intensely, being heavily invested first time watchers. Nico was saying pretty much every line word for word under his breath, so quiet only Will could hear and smirk to himself.
“How do you feel, Nico? Horrified?” Piper asked once the movie had ended.
“I think I’ll gauge my eyes out now.”
Will snorted at the obvious lie.
“I think we should tell scary stories now and get back into the Halloween spirit.”
“The most terrifying thing to happen to me was when Jason and Leo started making out on my poor, poor sofa and I almost had to throw it away.”
Leo threw a pillow at Piper’s face.
“Oh my God will you let that go?!”
“The most terrifying thing to happen to me was when I saw you making out with Reyna in a hot tub and I almost had to throw myself off a cliff.”
“Touché.”
Reyna threw a pillow at Jason’s face.
“The most terrifying thing to happen to me was when I got lost during the party and accidentally walked into the stables and I saw Percy and Annabeth—”
Percy threw a pillow at Frank’s face.
“I think Frank’s hallucinating, guys, maybe it’s time to call it a night!”
“FRANK SPILL.”
“I saw Percy and Annabeth—!”
Percy leaped across the couch, grabbed another pillow, and smothered it into Frank’s face.
“Frank, poor buddy, you’re delirious! Guys I’m worried about him. Maybe we need to take him to the ER.”
Everyone was in fits of laughter. The night continued on alternating between funny stories, and Nico’s horrifying ghost ones that left everyone frightened. At around 3am was when they decided they needed a sweet treat, and Percy pulled out his mom’s famous blue cookie recipe from his notes app. Everyone said a silent prayer to Sally Jackson before digging in and eating til the point of being sick.
By the time dawn broke, only a handful were still awake.
Hazel had been the first to fall asleep and Frank was quick to follow. Percy and Annabeth were steadily snoozing, cuddled up on each other. Reyna was sleeping content on what was usually Piper’s spot on the couch, and Will was knocked out on the floor near her.
Piper, Jason, Leo, and Nico sat on Piper’s balcony which captured a perfect view of the sunrise.
“Best Halloween of my life.”
“Agreed.”
Leo was leaning against Jason, the two of them bundled up in a blanket. Piper looked at them fondly.
“Y’know, this time last year you weren’t even at our school yet, Leo.”
“Woah. Kinda crazy to think about.”
“Yeah, it was just me, Piper, Percy, and Annabeth. Oh and it was around this time you started hanging out with us, Nico.”
“Yeah, and now you’re all my best friends. And there’s ten of us. And one of them is my boyfriend. If you went back in time and told last year me that, he’d explode.”
“Not to make it a competition, but last year me thought he was as straight as a pencil. If you told him he was going to break up with Piper and start dating her childhood best friend, he’d disintegrate by the atom.”
“Hey same here! I ended up finding out I was gay and falling for your childhood wife. She would melt down into like explosive chemical juice, seep through the earth, and blow up the world.”
“Personally my life worked out perfect just how I wanted it to! I may have masterminded everything into getting what I wanted, Machiavellian-style, and you guys were just none the wiser.”
“Honestly if you did, I applaud you and thank you.”
“Nah, but seriously though, it’s pretty insane how things worked out.”
“I think things that are meant to happen, happen.” Nico looked thoughtful with his gaze towards the first glimpses of daylight, and a fond smile on his face. “This is going to sound really corny, but I really love all of you guys and I’m so thankful this is what my life looks like right now.”
“Awwww, Neeks, you old softie.”
“Okay moment over, don’t call me that, and I’ll murder you if what I said gets out.”
“Too late I already have it on recording. Straight into my blackmail folder you go!”
“Valdez.”
Jason laughed as his boyfriend used him as a human shield against a fuming Nico while Piper was giggling at the sight. He thought about his friends sleeping soundly downstairs and it made him feel all fuzzy and warm inside.
Yeah, he thought. I’m so thankful too.
