HEIGHTENED POLICE PRESENCE AT MARCELLUS SHALE SAFE DRILLING ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING PREVENTS DELIVERY OF COMPLIMENTARY FRUIT BASKETS TO COMMISSIONERS
Today, August 18th, 2014, citizens interested in attending the monthly meeting of the Marcellus Shale Safe Drilling Advisory Commision were greeted at the door by members of the Frostburg State University police department, as well as a well groomed representative of the Maryland Department of the Environment. Chairman David Vanko announced at the outset of the meeting that the commission had been responsible for requesting the police presence at an open and public meeting, and went on to assuage the fears and discomforts of citizens by comparing the security presence, checking of bags and violation of comfort and personal space in general to what one would face while attending a baseball game...
game indeed.
We can only assume, at this point, that this upsurge in security can be most likely connected to what took place at the commissioner's meeting last month where citizens took control of the meeting in order to air their grievances concerning the commission's handling of public comment, and their handling of pretty much everything that they have been charged with handling for that matter.
What these photographs that we have been able to obtain do not convey, however, is the sheer disappointment that we here at Savage Mountain Earth First! are having to cope with due to our not being able to deliver these beautifully appointed fruit baskets that we brought along to bury the hatchet with the commission. We INTENDED these baskets as a way to show no hard feelings, letting bygones be bygones, settling of our collective differences, etc., but now we are stuck with a bunch of overripe fruit, a snub from the commission, and a collectively sinking feeling that, by and large, a majority of these commissioners do not actually care what the citizens of Western Maryland, and elsewhere in the state and bioregion for that matter, have to say about what happens to our homes.
Well...
Alright then...
Game On.
LOVE,
SMEF!
