VICTORY! After three years of letter deliveries, rallies, public pressure, and arrests, UBS is finally backing away from funding mountain top removal coal mining.
Nonviolent direct action and grassroots organizing works!
BREAKING!! The AMP Creeks Council has scored a major legal victory against the proposed Cove Point LNG Export Terminal. Calvert County Circuit Court Judge James Salmon found that a Calvert County law, passed specifically to clear the way for Dominion Cove Point’s export project, to be in violation of the Maryland Constitution. “This is a remarkable victory for the people of Lusby, Maryland, and folks fighting fracking and LNG exports throughout the Mid-Atlantic region” said Kelly Canavan, President of The AMP Creeks Council in a press release. #StopCovePoint
Major Natural Gas Pipelines in the United States (circa 2009)

The words of Sara Mehalick who barricaded the front entrance of Vermont Gas today:
"Today I'm taking action because Vermont Gas is intent upon shackling our communities to fossil fuels, and condemning us to irreversible climate change. We have a responsibility to the communities whose land, water, and air are being poisoned by fracking, and we're determined to make sure that this fracked gas pipeline does not move forward. Today we're here to tell Vermont Gas to cancel their construction plans, or expect to see growing resistance."
Spectra Energy is expanding their pipeline network so that more fracked natural gas can be transported and ultimately exported out of the country. All of these projects are set to be in service by 2017. The clock is ticking. It's time to Ban Fracking and Stop Spectra.
In case you were wondering…

The Regional Summit was a success. A coalition has been formed to resist the Algonquin Pipeline Expansion.
The fight against the natural gas industry is growing everyday. Check out this interactive map that highlights local fights against gas power plants, pipelines, export terminals and other infrastructure projects: http://bit.ly/1dvJm5y

Resistance to the proposed natural gas export terminal at Cove Point, Maryland is picking up. In the past two weeks 8 people have been arrested in acts of civil disobedience. This resistance is only going to increase until the proposed export terminal is stopped.
Fracking for natural gas is not about "energy independence", it is about capitalism. The gas industry is quickly building pipelines which lead to potential export terminals so that fracked natural gas can be exported. Once this happens domestic prices will sky rocket.
Natural gas is not the answer.
Big win in Kentucky in the battle against the Bluegrass Pipeline! HB 31, a bill that would prevent the gas industry from using eminent domain to build infrastructure projects, though committee and now will be voted on by the full house of representatives. http://www.wdrb.com/story/24833276/bluegrass-pipeline-bill-passes-house-committee
Stop the Hendry County Natural Plant! On Monday, Over 80 activists with Earth First! groups from across the country converged at the Florida Power and Light Headquarters. Five protestors locked their necks together, disrupting business operations at the second largest energy company in the nation. Their primary concern is a proposal to construct a massive natural gas power plant in Hendry County, on the border of the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation. “This proposal is an act of environmental racism against indigenous people and an attack on the Everglades. If we stand by and do nothing, we are also complicit in this injustice” Read more and donate to the legal fund here: http://bit.ly/1hTz6FP
The fight against the natural gas industry is picking up across the the country. Grassroots groups are fighting fracking, gas pipelines, gas export facilities and gas power plants. And in Maryland there is a growing movement to stop Cove Point from becoming a natural gas export terminal. Could this battle become the next Keystone XL moment and galvanize a national movement against the natural gas industry? "Will we have the courage to sacrifice for future generations?" "Will they look back and say: Great Great Grandpa he did nothing? I do not wish to be remembered that way; and I implore you to think about it in the same manner."
