i really like horror movies and i get a lot of movie recs and reviews on tiktok and i am learning that a lot of "horror fans" over there simply do not like horror

"I DONT RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE it was really disturbing and had an uncomfortable subject matter and it really effected me and i kept thinking about it afterwards. very upsetting movie it should have NEVER been made." its horror its supposed to be uncomfortable by its nature. if a horror movie is easily digestible and its themes and subject matter dont effect you then it fails as a horror movie.

yeah theres a lot of bad horror movies out there that handle sensitive subject matters poorly and sometimes are very gratuitous but a lot of the time these videos that claim a movie is basically a simulated snuff film seem to be "the movie depicted an upsetting matter seriously and it made me empathize with the characters involved" girl that means the movie did it right !! if you dont want to explore these themes then why are you watching horror movies !!!!!! you dont have to watch or like horror movies for your tiktok goth aesthetic

It's horror aesthetics vs actual horror. People call both of them horror, but a lot of people only want horror aesthetics. As an anime fan I have the opposite problem because 95% of "horror" anime is just anime with horror aesthetics with like one mildly scary scene at the begining.

for what it's worth: after a few months of submitting help tickets as 'feedback' when i saw a post inappropriately flagged as mature, i tried following this suggestion instead. today i got my first-ever response from tumblr support on this issue, letting me know that a post i'd submitted a ticket before has had its mature content flag removed.
