The Odyssey (2026) a short review.

Very good!

It wasn't a 1:1 adaptation of the Odyssey but I was actually okay with this take on things. Especially considering I went in grumpy about the bronze age Aegean soldiers where essentially roman kit.

The sound design is phenomenal! I cannot stress this enough. The movie is worth seeing just for the score and the sound design. It’s all great. There this particular leitmotif that signals that one of the gods is near that sounds like a mix of static and the cracking laser noise that large bodies of frozen water make and its awesome.

This is the sound. It plays multiple times during the film and it’s always right as the gods are showing their presence.

Also, I recognized a few pieces of jewelry as replicas of actual bronze age finds. Two of note being Penelope's necklace and her earrings so that was neat.

Highly recommend.

And the HORSE omg what a fucking amazing rendition of the horse, the whole scene is fucking great. Troy having to pull it out of the waves, that whole scene was so fucking good. Theres this part where they drop a torch over the wall of troy and it lights up the greeks waiting AND ITS SO FUCKING COOL. Also the scene with circe and her changing the men is ughhhh very well done and awful. and the cyclops *chefs kiss*

Tom Holland was probably the weakest overall and he was still top notch. I was wary about Matt Damon as Odysseus but he was great! And Hamish Patel was definitely a stand out for me. Robert Pattinson really plays a great sniveling weasel. 10/10 would hate him as a coward again.

Personally I LOVED the choice for Helen even if the poem mentioned her as fair I believe. She was there for all of a few minutes screen time and it was great. Same goes for Elliot Page he did great with his small role. Menelaus was did a very good job too. And ugh the death scene for Agamemnon. Holy fuck that was so good. The colors in that scene it was beautiful and I can’t help but think the way they shot it reminded me of one of the paintings of Judith killing Holofernes

Gah I could talk about the framing of the scenes for forever right now. I’ll stop. No one more, the set locations were ABSOLUTLY GORGEOUS AND STRIKING AND I WANT TO GO TO ALL OF THEM

Anywhoozlebee, I highly recommend and especially in imax. I have no Idea how the editors panned the footage for the regular showing, hopefully they did a good enough job, but there are quite a few scenes where there's something visually interesting going on everywhere on screen.

I'm going again this coming Thursday. I need to see it one more time in imax before that version is fucking gone forever (which is bullshit btw)

If the sound team loses any awards this next award season they were robbed. and thats coming from someone who thought Backrooms sound team was a shoe-in for winning.

In this scene, Clark says "Can you imagine how good that must feel?"

But then when he turns the light off, the wheelchair user turns his lamp on. When Mary hits The Pirate with the concrete piece, he yells in pain. Clark consoles The Pirate as though its feelings might be hurt. And when the memory of his wife sees The Pirate, she tries desperately to get away.

They have every one of those things. He just refuses to see their interiority. Like he always did. Like he refused to understand why his wife would kick him out, and keeps refusing, even now that he can see that she was terrified of him. Cause she's always been just furniture to him.

It’s a special form of hell as a reader when a serialized thing you’ve been reading for literal years update after update all the sudden takes a turn re-contextualizing the story as a whole and just completely ruining it for you.

I’ve built a tough skin to this being a reader of fanfiction, but every once in a while it’ll sneak up on me and then BAM! I now feel like I’ve wasted unbelievable amounts of time.

I’m nervous this next story quest is going to somehow either be ‘either or’ or ‘something something drifter only’ despite the ‘big bad’ literally being Adis.

What I’m hoping for is:

Wally keeps attacking Lotus therefore the Drifter stays nearby because void laces Lotus arm that’s grafted to them.

What I, unfortunately, could see DE do:

NOIR is no place for a CHILD, the OPERATOR is but a SMOL LITTLE BEAN who can be allowed to SEE such HORRORS. It’s not like they’re so MASS MURDERING, ANCIENT SOLDIER chalked-full of CONDITIONING or something wears MEAT PUPPETS around and has to constantly soothe said MEAT PUPPETS trauma addled brains.

NOIR has SEX TALK and INNUENDO and *gasps* DRUG REFERENCES not to mention that there’s GAMBLING in tau! D:

I’m just tired of the original protagonist getting sidelined by the AU!OC!MC2.0 amd put in a box labeled “child forever, for all time no matter how much they go through”

But also and more likely is it’ll be yet another part of the story where it’s either or which, given the player demographics on operator vs drifter usage means the operator will hear about Adis secondhand.

Hopefully I’m just completely wrong on this.

My last worry is that somewhere down the line Adis becomes a romance partner for the drifter. lol wouldn’t that be totally fucked. “Hey so I’m dating the person who have their soul to you but also I’m dating the cause of the genocide of his people lol tee hee”

I feel the need to add that I’m not looking for the Op to have a romantic interest. Honestly they read totally aroace to me. BUT if there was ever going to be one Adis and the Op are like the best way to do that without it being weird in my opinion.

On Monday one of the floaters came to me saying “hey do you want any time off this week I’m looking for shifts.”

I said sure what the hell and took my last shift of the week of (tomorrow night) because why not free longer weekend.

He confirms it, sends it to all the management people.

THEN TONIGHT

Motherfucker has the audacity to call my manager during his shift and say he can’t do my shift tomorrow night. No communication to me whatsoever.

So I’m calling his bullshit. I just sent an email with his previous confirmation email attached, to my supervisor, my manager, the float workers manger and my managers manager. Asking for ‘clarification’ as to who exactly now needs to look for coverage for tomorrow’s shit, given he confirmed he’d take it ON MONDAY.

Either way, they now all know he didn’t even have the courtesy to inform me why he suddenly couldn’t. I’m not letting him get away with any of his bullshit scot free

All decide to go to one location for a party? During which an entirely new faction 'steals' the president who just go his briefcase macguffin back and takes over all of the DC area in a single evening and now I'm supposed to what reconquer everything AGAIN.

I wasn't expecting much from a game with the most blah plot ever but Jesus Christ.

I was just on twitter and there was this clip from some anime and in it character 1 is trying to recruit character 2 and character to says out loud no, no, go away, and leave me alone. Then starts to run away before eventually attacking character 1 in order to scare her off.

Its such a dumb thing to be essentially triggered by but for fuck sakes she said no leave her the fuck alone.

Or the EU’s no chat surveillance law where they fuck voted it down said no twice then some fuck change the procedure so now it had to be majority voting it down otherwise it becomes law. Why is that allowed? Why is everything just an application of force?

It’s so fucking frustrating to see people’s autonomy anonymity etc all just taken away by others.

Other thoughts

New Matt Mercer frame seems fun. Although I’m not sure I like this trend of more and more frames having survived with their minds intact. It cheapens the Stalker and Umbra. Jade I was fine with. And the boys make sense because they were never really human to begin with except in the womb. Although I guess if anyone could’ve figured it out it would be Entrati. Idk I like the body horror of these were people and the process to make them this destroyed them.

I LOVED all the different Sentients (Especially big dancer lady 💕🥹)

Also FINALLY a populated city area. Sure most of it is in the background but that’s still cool
