Turns out the Astrophage are the power source for the backrooms.

Grace and Rocky dip into the backrooms at orbital velocity

Nikki walks backwards through a wall into the Eridian sun

And Mary opens a small door made out of a corner of a hallway only to go herself in space 300 feet 'down' and to the 'left' from Rocky's derelict ship

I need to see it again to pinpoint the details but I really like how the opening scene of obsession (2026) is Bear practicing his confession with a diner waitress... like already you have a woman (who is not Nikki) fulfilling the role for her, saying the response she thinks Bear would like to hear, but the moment this woman gives her own opinion, offering genuine advice to Bear (something along the lines of buying Nikki something she likes, like her favorite candy, flowers, etc)... Bear disregards it... but then ends up using Ian's recommendation from this same conversation (calling Nikki "Freaky Nikki")... like god its all already right there

One thing about Obsession (2026) that I enjoyed was that it almost asks you to feel empathy for the entity possessing Nikki as well as the real one. Like, obviously the things she's doing are horrific and fucked up, but I think the scene where Bear is asking her to "just be Nikki!" and she eventually just desperatly screams "I can't be Nikki!" does a really good job of showcasing the entity's inner feelings. She's been created with the sole purpose of loving this guy more than anyone else but no matter how perfect it is or how much he claims to love her, its not her that he loves, its Nikki. And any time she stops pretending to be Nikki, he reacts (albeit rightfully) with disgust and horror. She can't be Nikki because Nikki would never love Bear, and so Bear will never love her.

Obsession and Nikki’s horrible experience reminded me of the majority of WF players attitude towards the operator.

So, with above image in mind.

The Drifter (with the operator watching from a void pocket in their brain), this alt you, who looks older but isn’t, they only got a chance to physically age before being exposed to void death, steals all your skills, abilities, friends, and literally universe while you ride around in their head. And no one seems notices. Those that do don’t seem to care. And all the while the only time the operator is “let out” is in the void. And even then, they’re only let out to enter the trauma reliving machine. While the drifter heads back in time to make new friends.

I wonder how that feels. It parallels the warframes that still have some consciousness like umbra but it’s also so much like Nikki.

Especially the scene where Bear ‘talks’ to her on the phone while on the line with the Willow rep. And she’s just screaming.

And that’s not even going into the fact that the KIM system is horrifying. The operator gets to know the drifter has friends. Specific friends that only belong to them. But all of them are off limits.

Obviously a lot of this only applies to those that don’t use their op.

So when Mary enters because of the fly. In the bottom left corner of the potS room is dead corpse parts.

I can't help but think that's Kat's body.

And if it is, she was so close to making it to the exit. 😭

I'm also now convinced that the area they have Mary at the end is back in the Backrooms and after she faints they take her to an area that theyve renovated.

The hallway that they take her down that has Captain Clark in it is very convoluted.

Phil slips up early in the conversation and says " in here"

Plus the sky out the window has clouds that don't move.

And just the interrogation room in general, the dual one-way mirrors is so strange.

I am once again without a game

I have other games, but it’s the starting that’s the problem. I just sat there for a good 30 mins just trying to find something then I saw one of the games on my wishlist was on sale, bought it, downloaded and installed it which took a long time because I’m cheap on internet speed, and now I have no desire to play it.

In part because it wanted me to log into Ubisoft bullshit. I’d have to find my account which I think I have and then the log in. I don’t want to deal with that shit.

So now I’m on my couch, computer turned off and idk

I guess in part I have choice paralysis but it’s mixed in with my depression.

I wont even do things I love. I just sit. The only recent accomplishment I’ve made is I started exercising for 30 mins each day.

I’m just sad

Okay but imagine being the team of Eridian scientists tasked with keeping Erid's Only Human alive for as long as possible while the whole planet's environment is literally trying to kill him. And then Rocky shows up and is like:

“Grace says he would like half of dome to be water.”

“Oh, is necessary for humans to have large amounts of water question?”

Small Eridian equivalent of a sigh. “No. Not needed for life. In fact Grace will die if he falls in water and does not get out.”

“Tell him we give him water in containers that won't kill him. Lots lots lots of water on Erid for Grace to drink.”

“No. Grace say he want water on ground. Also want it with excess sodium chloride compound so it will be unhealthy for drink.”

“WHY QUESTION???”

To celebrate Erid getting their sun back on track, Grace asks for some alcohol. There's a small amount left from the Hail Mary and Rocky offers to take it to the science Eridians to see if they can synthesise more.

“Grace want this liquid for celebration.”

“Of course.” They scan it. “You have wrong liquid. This contain compounds which are poisonous for humans.”

“Yes yes yes. Grace say humans like feeling of being slightly poisoned.”

“WHY QUESTION?????”

Grace is like one of those extremely finicky tropical fish who instantly die if not kept in extremely specific conditions.

Only here the fish can talk and keeps asking you to make it vodka.
