childhood griddlehark goes crazy from harrow's perspective btw. what if you were a sin and a war crime and a monster and a horror and the adults around you told you this the second you were old enough to process the words as they were said to you, and every year since then the scale of the death that produced you has gotten a little more comprehensible. and what if the massacre of your soul left one singular survivor, one little straggler, a girl just a bit older than you, over whom you had absolute and unquestioned power. and what if even the most flagrant abuse of this power did nothing to make up for the fact that, every time you looked at her, you saw only her dead crechemates, and what if you couldn't stop looking at her. what if she spent her whole life refusing to be ignored, the loudest person in every room, the problem child, the rogue element. what if her life was a constant reminder of the deaths of hundreds, and she was so very alive. what if you lived a life in the cold and dark, everything in shades of black and gray, stone and frost, but not her, no. because she has red hair and eyes like molten gold and she burns like a candle in the dark.
