I swear to god one of these days were going to see a video of Amaury Guichon and he's going to be making some wings and they are going to look dope as hell, the detail of each feather will be breathtaking, he'll spray paint them to perfection, but as the video goes on, he's not building any sort of winged creature, just the wings. And then there's a human-sized harness (also made of chocolate, somehow, he can do it). And he's attaching the wings to the harness. And he's putting the harness on and he demonstrates how he can flap the wings. And then he'll be off. Out the window and up and up and up. And we'll be looking at the livestream (it's a livestream now) and we'll scream "No, Amaury, the sun! It's going to melt the wings!". But he knows this already. And he is free.
I have GOT to stop spending $30
I am chronically online but not in a way that keeps me informed #mybubble
seeing people say "this trope has been done to death" as if that's ever stopped anyone from eating bread. BREAD HAS BEEN DONE TO DEATH FOR LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND WE STILL WANT MORE BREAD. write your chosen one AU. write your coffee shop meet-cute. write your 47th iteration of "there was only one bed" because guess what??? we're still hungry.
We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.
"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.
It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.
As lovelyshananigans says, "intersectionality, babes"
remember when you’re writing a gross and terrible power dynamic that you should be asking yourself constantly how you could make it worse and sexier

the jacob wysocki tulpa manifesting inside my brain:
This is one of the two most motivating and inspirational things I've heard lately
The second one is "you are absolutely a valued... uh... unit? member... person of society" and it was said to me by someone I was talking to the other day
I'd like to request a late checkout
There are multiple chapters that are set in hospitals where the characters are attempting to recover from injuries that never fully heal. I must once again stress that my experience in WWI was perfectly normal.
There is a giant horrible mudplain full of unrecoverable and perfectly preserved dead bodies that the characters have to walk through in a land where the air is poisoned gas, and on a compLETELY UNRELATED NOTE: WWI WAS TOTALLY FINE AND NORMAL!!
And why are you all saying lotr was also a way for me to process the trauma and horror I experienced watching my own sons and students fight in WWII. Just because one of my characters longs to fight alongside her loved ones to save her country instead of being told to stay put, keep calm, and carry on while the world around her completely falls apart and all hope seems lost…..made to silently bear witness to the death and destruction of her people and the lands she is unable to protect….
Yes, I began writing these books during WWII while my sons were actively on the front lines, but my experience watching the young people I loved and taught dying to save me and my country from invasion in WWII bc my generation did not in fact end all wars WAS TOTALLY FINE AND NORMAL!!
Rent should neverever ver be more than a thousand dollars what the hell like a thousand dollars just to be in a building for a month fuck you seriously oh my god
My first apartment was $300 / month and I had a roommate so I paid $150. It was furnished with utilities included and two blocks from campus on a safe street.
I made $7/ hour at my job as a night time security person where I did homework and sat around and talked to drunk people as well as Mormons who got up early to pray and exercise.
I was the first generation in my family to go to college and I paid most of my own way and was very frugal and graduated with maybe $5k in debt.
I went into environmental justice nonprofit work which paid less that $7/hour. I was able to do because I had so little debt and my part of rent was $200/month at the first place I lived after graduation. I worked for low wages for maybe a decade and when they saw I really wasn't going away got a job with benefits at some point.
I say all this because I can see the freedom of choice in ways a person can say "fuck capitalism imma help people and make art. I don't need money"
because you just need so much more money now and it's a fucking trap and I hate it. Life is literally harder now and it takes away people's ability to pursue justice and joy and creativity.
My interns and young people are often like "what tips do you have to make a living in environmental justice work" and my advice is always "build a time machine and be born before 1985" (And maybe also kill Ronald Reagan).
Sky Ladder by Cai Guo-Qiang. The Sky Ladder was unveiled in 2016 over Quanzhou, China. It burned for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. It was the artist’s fourth and final attempt, as previous attempts had met only varying degrees of success. The artist says he had dreamt of a fire ladder 21 years prior and was very excited to see it come to life.
