Page 1: Captioned, “In another (finale promo) universe…” Pomni, Ragatha, Gangle, and Zooble say good night to Kinger as he enters his pillow fort. He has a popcorn button on his head.
Page 2: The group splits off in the hallway, bidding each other good night. As Pomni reaches her room, Jax quietly steps out of his. “So, how was it?”
“Oh, the movie?” Pomni turns, leaning against her door. “It was good! A little bittersweet, but I still really liked it.”
Jax mirrors her, arms crossed. “Hm.”
“We all hung out on the lawn afterwards, talking about it.”
“Sounds like a fun time.”
“It was.”
Page 3: “…We saved you a seat.” Earlier, Jax scowls alone under a dark lamppost. The others watch the movie with one empty chair. Pomni looks back. “In case you came by.”
Back in the hallway, Jax smirks. “Just dying to hear my colorful commentary, huh?”
“Yeah,” Pomni answers. “I was.”
Jax has no response.
Pomni turns back to her door with a smile. “Maybe next time.”
As she goes to open it, Jax says, “Y’know…”
Page 4: “There’s an entire movie theater in one of these rooms. If you… wanted to…” he trails off, then perks up at Pomni’s, “Sure.”
She gives a thumbs up. “I wouldn’t mind watching it again.”
“It wouldn’t be too boring?”
“Nah. I like catching what I missed the first time.” She smiles. “Good night.”
Jax doesn’t look at her, but replies, “…Night.”
Page 5: In the movie theater, Pomni looks at a teary-eyed Jax as she takes a sip of his drink. “Are you crying?”
“NO!”

i know it looks like i'm only enjoying this au for the inherent sillyness of caine being a furry, and you'd be half correct. i also just think caine+gangle+zooble interactions are s tier and gangle would 100% be a true supporter of cat caine, much to zooble's dismay
Maybe it looked as if she were about to save him just as she had before. She would have chosen to help Jax every time if she could. But it would be unfair to put such a heavy responsibility on herself. One way or another she was going to miss a chance to save him. Because in the end it was never Pomni that could save Jax. It needed to be himself.
Jax in the digital circus is the timeline that he did not reach out. He did have a part of him that yearned for connection with others but his fear of being vulnerable is why he pushed everyone away. It was only when it was too late did Jax realize that most of his problems could have been resolved. The last thing he says is "I don't want to go". It reminds me of when I heard about people who jumped off the golden gate bridge and survived say they realized on the way down that their problems could have been resolved. Most people do not survive that fall, probably having the same realization.
Jax in the real world, Leeroy, is the timeline that he does reach out. We see the photos of him with friends at a queer bar! Leeroy may not have the most thriving life compared to the others but that's not what is important right now because he is ALIVE!!! Alive is enough.
What is up with lefty types pushing to learn practical skills (sewing/gardening/etc whatever) as like "you'll need to know this after The Revolution:tm:" and not, like, "this is a useful skill to help yourself & others in your communities Right Now". You all sound like doomsday preppers and it's weirding me out. We don't have to prep for communist rapture maybe thee revolution starts with helping your neighbors
thinking about the time a former housemate said to me "hey I put these box fans in the living room because it's hot" while gesturing to the fans that I was actively sitting in front of because it was hot. and I said "okay thanks." and she kept standing there like she was waiting for something else so I said "am I blocking the airflow? do you need me to move?" and she said no I'm just letting you know they're here, in the living room, for circulation. and I said well yes, I did put that together. I am enjoying them. thank you. and she looked confused. so I asked "am I meant to do something with this information or are you just informing me?" and she said no I'm letting you know they're here because It's Hot In Here. she seemed a bit aggravated, and her emphasis seemed deliberate.
it took me asking three more times before she finally told me she wanted me to leave the fans where they are instead of moving them to my room or something. and I said oh! I had no intention of doing so but thank you for letting me know what the expectation is.
about a month later she brought up that conversation as the moment it actually clicked for her that I Am Autistic And Will Not Magically Intuit The Unspoken Request You Didn't Ask Me.
I have observed enough allistic communication to know that generally, if somebody points something out to you that you can already see or are already clearly interacting with, they are making an indirect request. but as I don't know what the request is, the only way forward is for me to guess (and likely get it wrong), or prompt the allistic to tell me clearly what they need.
however, allistics don't realize they do this, so asking them to say the unspoken surprises and confuses them. this is not their fault. allistics can be quite emotionally fragile and perceive directness as confrontation, so they habitually rely on indirect speech and coded language to preserve others' feelings. this is why they may find it difficult to be direct, even when asked. I have found that with enough gentle encouragement and reassurance that they are actually helping you, you too can achieve successful communication with your allistic friend or loved one. :)
its terrible for any number of reasons, but i think if we invent immortality there should be an extreme sport called civilizational speedrunning where teams of 20 go into the wilderness somewhere and try and be the fastest build the first internal combustion engine. i bet you could get it down to like 3 years tops
When you think about, jesus is sort of like the vriska of the bible. Isn't introduced until were hundreds of pages into the story, immediately hijacks the plot and declares themself the main character, huge portions of the fanbase are obsessed with them to the point that you'd be forgiven for not realizing theres other important characters, dies dramatically but gets brought back by deus ex machina to save the day, etc. I mean vriska's a lesbian, so shes way cooler, but still, the parallels are obvious.
