Switch up the usual Summer Shenanigans!
Summer is around the corner, we all know what that means. Days, nights and weeks in the beer garden! Why not take the summer off for once? Because a heavy summer of sessioning is deducting from your life span and not giving! Switch it up with a giver, not a taker. Get into healthier habits and live life the PLUNGE way this summer. Why not save your money, health and fear by plunging the summer away! You'll feel happier, healthier and live longer so what's stopping you?
Did you know?
Immersing yourself in cold water can increase your lifespan! Frequent cold water exposure has endless benefits to us humans packing both physiological and psychological benefits. Here are some benefits to make you TAKE THE PLUNGE!
1. It builds a resilient, stronger mind with the ability to adapt to change rapidly as you build psychological brain power from frequent uncomfortable situations. Because realistically who wants to take an ice cold shower or jump into a freezing cold river? It trains the brain to be more tolerant to whatever shit situations, or opportunities life may throw at you!
2. It boosts your immune system
The effects of cold water on the immune system have been studied widely. Cold water helps to boost the white blood cell count because the body is forced to react to changing conditions. Over time, your body becomes better at activating its defences.
3. It gives you a natural high
Cold water swimming activates endorphins. This chemical is what the brain produces to make us feel good during activities. Cold water swimming is also a form of exercise, and exercise has been proven to treat depression. Cold water swimming brings us close to the pain barrier. Endorphins are released when we’re in pain, to help us cope with it.
4. It improves your circulation
Cold water swimming flushes your veins, arteries, and capillaries. It forces blood to the surface and helps to warm our extremities. Repeated exposure adapts us to the cold.
5. It increases your libido
Cold water was traditionally seen to repress sexual urges. The fact is that it increases libido! A dip in some cold water boosts oestrogen and testosterone production, adding an edge to fertility and libido.
The benefits of increased libido include more confidence, higher self-esteem, and enhanced mood.
6. It burns calories
The heart has to pump faster in cold water and the body must work harder to keep everything warm while swimming. Overall, far more calories are burned during cold water swimming than swimming in warmer conditions. The idea that drinking cold water increases the number of calories you burn may be a myth, but it is a fact that cold water decreases your body temperature so much that the body must act.
7. It reduces stress
Cold water swimming places stress on the body physically and mentally. Many studies have identified the link between cold water and stress reduction. Cold water swimmers are more calm and relaxed than non-swimmers.
Welcome Plungers!
This blog is dedicated to river fanatics around the globe. I will be sharing my top 5 hidden gems located within the picturesque County of Wicklow. I will review, locate and give nearby recommendations of local facilities to make it that bit easier if any of ye peasants decide to attend.
Do not doubt thou knowledge and expertise as one has travelled far and beyond the rivers of Wicklow to choose these 5. Plans were made to test these bad boys last week but it was unsafe to do so because of flooding, and I caught a violent flu. Bummer, but hopefully it will be sooner than later! I will keep ye posted once the rivers start to drain themselves as they are still at overflowing levels.
