"It's nearly two in the morning, what are you doing up?" (callie to riley)
“Reading,” Riley replied with a slight shrug, holding up the book for a moment before closing it and setting it on the table in front of her. “I couldn’t sleep.”
“Any particular reason why?” Callie asked with a raised eyebrow, sitting in the chair across the table from Riley. “Is everything ok?”

Riley frowned, looking away for a moment and feeling her cheeks flush at being caught in a lie. She pulled the small plate of salad back toward her, setting the cup off dressing aside, and speared a piece of cucumber with her fork. She couldn’t deny that she was a bit hungry, after all.
“Are you sure you don’t want something else?” Callie asked as she stood up. “That doesn’t look very substantial. I can bring you something else if you want” she offered.
“I can hear your stomach growling from over here,” Riley commented skeptically, pushing the salad she had purchased across the table toward the other. “Here, you can have it. I’m still stuffed from breakfast anyway.”
Callie raised on eyebrow at the petite redhead sitting across from her. “First off, we’ve been in surgery all day, so unless you ate at two in the morning, you didn’t have breakfast. And second, I was listening to your stomach growling all through surgery, so I get the feeling you’re the one who should be eating that salad. I’ll get a sandwich or something.”

“No she totally would” Jane answered, nodding seriously. “You didn’t know me when I was a kid Maura. Any Jane Jr. will be breaking things.”

Saskia looked up from her glass, surprised look on her face. “Wait, so your sister was almost disowned for being a lesbian and you were made to go to church more? How old you were when it happened?” she couldn’t imagine being disowned by her mother or father, probably her father’s mother would do it but still it sounded strangely.
“We were fourteen when my sister came out. Dad just kicked her out without a second thought” Karina answered. “He can be kind of a jerk, obviously,” she added. “I had a few boyfriends throughout high school, so I guess he just kinda assumed I was straight. Then when my date for prom was a girl, he freaked out a little. I had to go to church a bunch during the summer, but then I was off to college. I guess he thinks it’s more forgiveable to be bi than completely gay...I think he’s still under the impression that he can turn me straight.”

Initially caught by surprised, it only took a moment for a hint of amusement to cross Maura’s features, leaving a slight smirk lingering on her lips. “Oh?” she questioned softly, one brow arching upward. “Do I?”
“Yeah” Karina answered smugly, smirking down at Maura and placing her hands on the blonde’s hips to pull her closer. “You do.”

“Oh really?” Eliza asked, a bright grin crossing her lips and one brow arching upward, her heart skipping a beat and a light flush colouring her cheeks despite the show of confidence she put on. “I like the sound of that…”

Seeing Eliza’s uncertainty, Arizona’s expression softened into a sympathetic look. “Hey, if you’re not comfortable with it, it’s ok” she said gently, placing a soft kiss on Eliza’s forehead. “If you’d rather wait until later, that’s fine.”

“I’m serious Eliza” Arizona answered, frowning. “You’re working so hard, and while I admire that, you’re not taking care of yourself. That part I can’t get behind” she added, crossing her arms.

i’m just gonna take a sec to dump all my eliza and karina twin headcanons on y’all
Karina is 12 minutes older
Eliza’s the one who everything just came easily to, so she always did well in school without having to put in much effort
Karina always had to work hard in school, so she ended up turning into the super responsible twin since she always had to stay on top of everything
Karina is eternally jealous that Eliza graduated high school early
Eliza once did all of Karina’s homework for her for a week. Karina was sick and constantly worried about falling behind, so Eliza just did all her assignments for her and turned them in, then spent the whole weekend catching her up on everything she missed.
Karina is extremely organized in all aspects of her life, Eliza’s organized when it comes to work stuff, but tends to leave things laying around all over the place. it annoyed Karina to death when they were kids.
Karina is a cat person and Eliza is a dog person. They never got to have pets as kids because they could never agree on which to get (their parents insisted that they agree), and the apartment complex they lived in would only allow one pet.
Karina bought a fish for a pet as soon as she went to college. It died within a week and she called Eliza crying about it because she was very attached to the fish. Eliza came to visit her that weekend and brought her a cat. She’d been calling the cat Hell Spawn because he was a pain in the ass. The name stuck.
Eliza is 1.5 inches shorter than Karina. Karina likes to joke that growing was the one thing she was better at than Eliza.
Karina dyed her hair pink in middle school because people kept mixing her and Eliza up. their mom was not pleased. Eliza claimed that it was her idea (it wasn’t) so Karina wouldn’t get in trouble.
Karina once punched a classmate in the face for teasing Eliza. people were kinda afraid of her after that and quickly figured out that they should probably not tease her sister.
they were both forced to take piano lessons for 10 years. Karina hated it at the time and really wanted to play french horn.
