Day 8: Watch 👁️
You ever just be traveling on the highway at night? Passing the other cars, each their own little world traveling at their own pace. All of you illuminating the path head, passing through long stretches of darkness, the dark lavender sky above you and the towering mountains on either side reminding you of how small and unimportant you are. Dots of light around settlements in the in-between of big cities, like willow-the-whisp's trying to convince you to pull over on the exit ramp. Your headlights reflecting on bits of bright yellow like eyes watching you, warning you of where the barrier between the safety of the road and the danger of the unknown meet. Each shape and shadow looking like a deer ready to dart out in front of you, but maybe a deer is better than whatever else could make those more larger, gnarled shapes that seem to absorb the passing light. Sometimes there's no sky at all, just trees leaning over you high above; are they peering down at you judgementally, or are they getting ready to curl around your car and trap you forever?
Anyways, I'm on a 3 hour trip, it's 6:49 and I have a comfy spot in the very back seat, stretched out with pillows, blankets, and coffee, the perfect habitat for a writer. We just passed a place called Heaven On Earth, a restaurant I think, I'm listening to the Pixies and I'm pretty sure there are way more deer than needed on the side of the highway, so yeah... Hopefully I don't die....
