Miguel Moreno was born in Valencia, Spain to Muggles Diego Casales and Nina Azarola. His parents’ marriage was rocky from the get-go, and the pair split when Miguel was only three years old. Miguel doesn’t remember anything about his father and only knows what his mother has told him and what he could gather from old photographs. Nina remarried when Miguel was five and soon gave birth to twin daughters. Despite an absent father, Miguel grew up in a relatively stable household and had a normal childhood until he began to exhibit strange behavior related to his magical abilities. Being a family of Muggles, no one in the Moreno family could explain why certain things around the house began to disappear and then reappear in strange places or why one of Miguel’s younger sisters claimed to see objects levitating in his room.
Miguel began attending a Spanish wizarding school until the beginning of his fifth year. Along with his childhood friend Tulio, the pair boarded the wrong plane to their destination after a technical error displayed the wrong destination. They landed, instead, in London, UK. Miguel somehow managed to convince Tulio to follow a group of exchange students to Hogwarts instead of returning to Spain, and the pair attending Hogwarts for an entire six months without their parents’ realizing their switch-up. Needless to say, the pair got into a world of trouble for it, but by some miracle, they were allowed to stay in attendance at Hogwarts so as not to interrupt their education.
Now fully immersed in wizarding culture, Miguel is torn between living up to his Muggle family’s traditional expectations of how he should live his life; marry young, pursue a Muggle career, live in Spain… While his immediate family is supportive, his extended relatives are extremely religious and old-school. Coming out as a wizard would potentially tear apart his family, and Miguel couldn’t live with himself if that ever happened. His fascination and love affair with magic and the opportunities it provides pulls him further down the rabbit hole, leaving him with the difficult decision of how to move forward. Does he live a double life as a wizard and Muggle, or expose the truth to those he loves most, risking them in the process?
Miguel speaks fluent Spanish and learned to speak English very quickly since he had already begun learning as a child. He does speak with a mild Spanish accent.
He is a rather skilled dancer, though not in any professional sense, he just has a great sense of rhythm and has fun with it. He dances for fun in his spare time and likes to practice.
The lute is his favorite instrument to play but he can also improvise on guitars and ukuleles.
Growing up on the coast of Spain has fostered a deep love of the ocean in Miguel. The place he feels most calm is at the beach, and can often be found near any body of water when he wants to be alone or just hang out.
Miguel absolutely loves animals and has a natural capacity for caring and interacting with them. His grandparents own a farm in the Spanish countryside so he has always been exposed to animals of all kinds from an early age. He holds a special love of horses and dogs.
Dueling is one of his favorite hobbies and participates regularly in the dueling club at Hogwarts.
Miguel’s parents are both Muggles, which means he grew up without knowledge of magic until he turned 11. His mother is very supportive of his magical abilities, though his biological father is unaware of magic since he walked out of Miguel’s life early in his childhood. His stepfather is also supportive.
Despite his laid-back personality, Miguel is actually fascinated by books and stories and loves to learn. He is a decent student and works hard to be successful.
He’s very street smart and knows his way around well after he’s given some time to explore his surroundings.
His uncle introduced him to the lute when he was eight and he hasn’t stopped playing since.
