Jenin, Jenin (2002). By Mohammad Bakri.
You ever drink a three espresso shot coffee and still your eyes refuse to stay open?
Lebanon is currently being bombed with thousands displaced and hundreds martyred. The Israeli strikes are intensifying and nearly one million people are displaced as of 3/12/2026.
Below are a few sources accepting donations to provide food, aide, and more to those affected. If you have any means to donate please do so. The Lebanese Red Cross - provides life saving medical services across the country
Lebanese Food Bank - distributing food and essential supplies to those who are directly affected and displaced
Egna Legna Besidet - a women migrant domestic worker run humanitarian and advocacy organization providing humanitarian assistance and emergency aide for migrant domestic workers
If anyone has any other places to donate, please share.
you met me at a very phantom of the opera time of my life
Gustav Klimt
“Gustav Klimt”, subtitled “With A Catalogue Raisonné of His Paintings”, was written by Fritz Novotny and and Johannes Dobai and published by Federick A. Praeger in 1968. It contains over four hundred of Klimt’s paintings and sketches, both in color and black & white.
Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter, possibly best known for his painting of The Kiss finished somewhere between 1907 and 1908. If you thought Klimt was part of the Art Nouveau movement in Europe prior to this post, you’re not that off-base. Klimt was, indeed, a Symbolist painter but he led a short art movement dubbed the Vienna Secession that had a massive influence on Modern European art—especially Art Nouveau. Named after the city it was established in and the artists that took part in it, Klimt and his friends created their group after feeling stifled by what they referred to as a more conservative Vienna art style and attitude. While it had a direct hand in inspiring upcoming Modern European art, the Vienna Secession movement was not just about aesthetics; it focused more on artistic freedom and inviting foreign artists to exhibit their paintings in the city, which had not been done prior to the movement.
Klimt’s role in the Vienna Secession and his art style made him a rather “scandalous” artist to the city’s upper-class patrons. Essentially, Klimt really wanted to paint ‘beautiful’ and ‘scantily clad’ women, which as we can see from his sketches, he drew quite often. This went against what was expected of art for the time period but garnered Klimt quite a lot of attention, which possibly contributed to him being so well-known in the art world today. Klimt is most often associated with his figure’s impressive, patterned outfits and his “golden phase” where he covered his paintings in golden leaf (seen in the first two images).
