So, the other day, when I was discussing AO3's policy on solicitation, a tumblr user came at me saying that AO3's "no monetization/solicitation" rules were "bullshit" because nexus mods allows fan created mods to get paid.

AO3 protects you and your works.

It protects your works from copyright strikes and DCMA takedowns.

It protects your work from advertisers.

It protects your work from overzealous legal challenges.

It protects your right to post adult content.

AO3 is non-profit and AO3 will never try to use you or your work to make a profit for themselves and AO3 will go to bat for you if someone tries to legally challenge you or your works.

Please respect AO3 and its mission.

AO3 protects fandom from payment processors.

Mastercard has no reason to mess with AO3. Visa doesn't. PayPal doesn't. Stripe doesn't. There's no compensation-for-porn exchange happening. By design. BY DESIGN.

AO3's founders knew that AO3 needed to be set up to protect us from any and all avenues of attack on fanworks. They've managed it quite successfully.

More than that, AO3 is saying "we don't believe fanfiction is something you buy or sell". Fanfiction is something that is shared with the community. Fanfiction is communication. Fanfiction is love. Fanfiction is frustration. Fanfiction is "he would not fucking say that and here's why". Fanfiction is connection.

Fanfiction is "I made this thing to share with other people who love the thing"

AO3 is set up and run by people who believe in the non-monetisation of fanworks.

If you want to try to monetise your fanworks, if you don't care about community, if you personally want to take on the legal risk, you can!

Just not on AO3. AO3 says no. AO3 says it's not about money, it's about love and community.

They also baited asguardians of the galaxy but from what I heard the Guardians of the galaxy are barely in it, despite Rocket and Groot being in the trailers quite a bit.

I keep seeing posts hating on Chris Pratt's version of Star-Lord, and y'all had no problem with it before??? At least not that I know of, and I don't understand what the problem is. T'challa's Star Lord and Peter Quill's are two totally different people who had totally different experiences

Quill was brought to space grieving a loss, and was torn away from the only family he had left. He didn't have a lot of hope and was going through some intense trauma, so he went along with the Ravagers way of life. Also, they kept threatening to eat him

T'challa was brought to Yondu seeking adventure. He wasn't going through the grief of losing his mother, and he was curious about what the galaxy would be like, so he led the Ravagers on an adventure that helped them become better people. (And they didn't threaten to eat him)

Peter didn't have a dad, and his mom was dying of cancer. T'challa had a happy, whole family. So of course Peter's version of Star Lord was more jaded that T'challa's. He sees the galaxy as overwhelmingly out to get you, while T'challa sees it as a place that needs help and needs to be saved

This doesn't make either of them any better than the other. Peter still saves the galaxy, he just takes a different path than T'challa, a longer one. That doesn't make him the bad Star Lord (and I know most of y'all are joking. But I also feel that there are some who aren't, and this point is for them. And for me, because I wanted to make this point)

In short, both Star Lords are amazing people who fought for the galaxy. It's just that one of them fought for a galaxy that they still had hope for, and the other fought for one that had never given them anything. But he did it anyways

Honestly, that "What if" episode sucked. It was mostly tell don't show and everyone's constant praising of T'challa got old in the first scene it appeared and they never showed him earning the adoration either, they just said it "oh this amazing thing happened off screen, were not gonna show it to you, were just gonna say it happened"

Like, Thanos could have been reasoned with?? Yeah, sure. Would have loved to see that scene. Like no one tried to talk him down in the og world?? Bull shit. Literally show me the scene Marvel, show me t'challa having a chat with Thano's and talking him out of it. I want to know what he said word for word. You can't, cause its ridiculous and unrealistic.

Also the ravangers were ooc from the begining. They were pirates with no moral leaning, just going where the money was. But sure they'd totally take responsibility for some kid and make his wildest dreams come true when it doesn't benefit them to do so.

But the biggest insult was implying that Peter would have ended up a nobody mopping the floors of a fast food venue like he had no redeeming qualities or skill. Its just very popular to hate Chris Pratt right now for honestly no good reason.

It occurs to me that Peter Quill, as a child, was apprenticed to Yondu, who, as a Ravager, is essentially both a pilot and a pirate. AND THEREFORE, I propose “The Guardians of Penzance” Frederic is obviously Star-Lord, and Yondu is the Pirate King. Thanos, as the father of a whole bunch of adopted daughters, can be the Major-General. Gamora-as-Mabel is a bit of a stretch, but can probably be made to work with perhaps some changes to her lines. Nebula can be Edith, and I’m sure we can fill in the rest of the ladies (I don’t know the comics very well but I’m sure there are plenty of characters to pull from). The role of Samuel will be split between Kraglin, who covers the dialogue in Act 1, and Rocket, who leads the burglary and sings the solo during CatLikeTread. Ruth is the hardest to fit in here but I’m thinking she can be played by Drax, as his tendency to take things literally could easily lead to all of these misunderstandings. Finally, there are two options for the police: Either the Nova Corps from the first movie, who fit in perfectly as bumbling peacekeepers, OR bring in the main-team Avengers (IronMan, Thor, Cap, Hulk, etc)… and let them split up the Sargent’s solo lines, because I think it would be funny.
