KENland AU - Ken helping Ryland with school!
Yes I am still on this AU. No I won't let it go. (It's lighthearted and fun - also check out this art that @sillymagicfroggie did!)
Ken would absolutely help Ryland with school. Like, if Ryland needs to have an extra person during a field trip and you know he'd be the first to volunteer to help if he so much as catches wind of it. Ken is absolutely a fan-favourite with the kids. He's very excitable and matches their energy and would be a blast to be around. (He also engages with the material as much as they do - and listens as intently as any of them and puts up his hand too every time Ryland asks them a question.) I'm imagining like, one time Grace decides to put on a scavenger hunt at a nearby park. Ken offers to help. So they split the kids into two teams (drawn in a pink sequin cowboy hat) and have a competition on which team can find the most off of their lists. (The lists being various flora, fauna, fungus, rocks etc they can observe and find) Ken 100% is dressed up as a cowboy for this scientific excursion. (Ken: Because what if there's a horse, Ry-Ry? I need to be prepared! Grace: -What horse!?) It wasn't a competition initially. Ryland just wanted to have the group split into two for easier student-wrangling and he trusted Ken to keep an eye on them. It's Ken that insists it's a challenge. He also says whoever sees a horse first 'wins by default'. (Grace: There won't be any horses, Ken. It's a public neighbourhood park. I'm not putting it on the scavenger hunt list! Ken: :( Aw.) But... Ken stirs the students copeditive spirts all up and their excitement and laughs are loud and bright. (Ryland gets caught up too - it's so hard not to get caught up - ) So in the end they are running around the park in their two groups. Ken's energy is just contagious. They see a lot. They learn a lot. Kids see bugs and rocks and plants they wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Ken finding and holding up stuff for the kids to identify and put down on their lists. The groups end up merging into one, it is more fun to watch the two supposed adults bounce off of eachother. And in the end... they do see a horse. Ryland sees it first - someone riding their horse down the park path. Of all the things he had ever expected - this was the one thing he didn't.
He can't believe his eyes. Ken can his eyes because he knew there'd be a horse there. And then students get to watch as their teacher and his brother shove and grapple at each other like children. Fighting and trying to grab or smack the papers out of each other's hands so they can claim that they saw the horse first. (Grace: I saw it first! Ken: I did! Grace: - No I did! Ken: I knew it was going to be here! Grace: That doesn't count- gimme that- *sounds of sibling violence*) (In the end neither of them wrote down horse on the list - their papers got too crumpled)
Ken: So... :) I told you so, Ry-Ry. There was a horse.
Im sorry theres so much fun to unpack here but I cant get past the fact Ken calls him RY-RY!!!
THAT IS SO CUTE!! RY-RY!!
