The fact that they haven’t already crashed could at least be taken as a good sign. As crazy as Hunter was, he was skilled in situations such as this. Sadly, he couldn’t focus on the sight of that giant avian, because he needed to keep his awareness on going forwards so they didn’t end up as paint on a tree. This was just a terrible mess to be in all around. He had a kid with no weapons that he is protecting for some reason and he doesn’t even know where to find a gun. Could this kid even shoot a gun? Well, can’t be picky! At this point, the wasteland rule of ‘learn or die’ come into play.
So far, so good. Weaving through these trees was kind of a hassle, but it wasn’t too much of a problem. Hunter would just smash through them with his face if it wasn’t for the fact he had a passenger. Hey! At least he’s thinking of Lore’s safety in all this! He just didn’t know why. Man they needed a place to hide, and he couldn’t see anything good right now. That bird was definitely back there somewhere, but he doubted it could fit in here properly.
Oh so now Lore starts speaking his language! Sort of. Really, he was fine with a ‘strategical retreat’, and that was exactly what this was in his mind. The thing is, where would they find weapons? “What would do? I find something! Survived in wasteland for so long, will survive if plans fail! Somehow. “ At least he had hope in himself, but he was also just that stupid. Though… Lore did managed to get him to try and think just a bit more. This wasn’t the wasteland, after all. “We get you weapon! Then kill! Lil Gunther is good gun, will not use others!” He totally named his gun. “You just need good gun, then we good! Good? Good.”
Luckily, Lore wouldn’t have to be too considered with being so close to the ground for too long. Hunter’s eyes were peeled, trying to find something that would be good enough for them to hide in. If they could avoid sight long enough, maybe this dumb bird would leave them alone for awhile so they could get their bearings. As much as Hunter wanted to charge after it head on right now, he also didn’t want Lore to continue nagging him about his plans. Soon, something good was spotted; a large tree. Not only that, but the bottom of it seemed to have a hole dug in by who knows what. Giant woodpecker? Previous prey of the bird? He didn’t care, but it was big enough for the two of them! Hunter quickly tilted himself back as he flew, letting his feet act as breaks along the ground just so he could slide right to a stop just outside of the hollowed out part of the tree itself, all before throwing himself inside, where he finally released Lore from his clutches.
There were so many trees passing before his eyes, it was a wonder that he didn’t get hit and loss consciousness yet by this insane transport. He could probably get hurt from this before that creature even touched them. Oh, that was the first thing they need to deal with if they were going to travel freely in this area. Although, the freest the boy wanted to be is free enough to get away from this whole place. Get away the fact he probably had to fight with an actual weapon with a less-than-optimal partner. He wasn’t dissing Hunter’s abilities. He was absolutely dissing how their dynamic could end up being a sort of weird amalgamation that may not yield ideal results... Who was the one babysitting anyways?
Oh, good, Hunter took his suggestion. He could feel relief flooding his veins. However, his heart wouldn’t stop pounding in his chest. Another tree. He wanted to squeeze his eyes shut from all of this and wait for a safe area to open them. That wasn’t something he had the privilege of doing. Another screech, this time much, much farther off. Before he could respond to any of the soldier’s words, the grip loosened around him. Actually, the first sound that left his mouth was yelp as he rolled to the wall. Everything was spinning. He forced himself into a sitting upright, shaking his head to clear his thoughts. Standing up seemed futile. He was still dizzy.
Maybe... he should be glad that Hunter decided to bring them here instead of charging at the avian. There was no returning if they fought the enemy in their current state. Some things stood out to him from Hunter’s previous words. First was that the soldier came from a wasteland, and he agreed that he should get a gun or any weapon for that matter, but... “Did you name your gun?” Sounded trustworthy...
From his position, he found a stick nearby and drew a weak line in the dirt. Okay, this would be a decent start to write their plans and visualize them. The creature would have a hard time spotting them and they had a somewhat clear place to look around. “Okay, yeah, where would we get another gun?” Better question: how fast can Lore learn how to fire a gun? Pretty sure, this weapon gaining was something his ally was going to budge from. “This isn’t the same as the wasteland, is it...? In any form? It’s not similar to my place at all, aside from the amount of trees.”
