#mapmonday this week takes us to the Gilded City of Ankharon. A port city on the northern edge of Ankhamon, the city is filled with strange and wondrous sights such as the Haron Water Gardens, and the great lighthouse of Harbour’s Call. The city in all its splendour is punctuated by the majestic Great Ziggurat towering above its gilded streets. The Great Ziggurat is home to the House Haron, the rulers of Ankharon and their servants. Legend speaks of how the founders of House Haron escape the Fall of the Yuan-Ti Empire and laid the foundations of the Great Ziggurat by hand. This would create a sanctuary for fellow survivors of the Fall and together, Ankharon was founded. In present times, the city is the richest in all of Ankhamon, with ships from distant lands braving the seas to conduct trade in the city, bringing with them foreign wealth in exchange for priceless Yuan-Ti artefacts found in the desert sands. #battlemapfriday this week takes a look at the Sand Rat’s Cellar, a system of underground tunnels that connect the various secret basements underneath the shops of Halimar. These upstanding establishments and their owners operate their businesses by day and act as agents of the Cartel by night. And it is here in the Sand Rat’s Cellar that the entire operation comes together, be it fencing and disguises to interrogation and smuggling, it all happens here in these blood soaked tunnels. We begin #mapmonday this week by having a proper look at the known places of Ankhamon. Known as the “Land of Lost Futures”, Ankhamon is a strange and distant land populated by opportunistic merchant princes and ambitious sell swords. It is a land of adventure, where one may find incredible fortune just by delving into the lost cities of the Yuan-Ti. The Yuan-Ti were originally masters of Ankhamon, thousands of years ago they perfected the lost craft of combining magic with technology, creating marvellous cities of great power and beauty. To better survive the harsh desert heat of their homeland, these people began splicing their genes with that of snakes, inheriting serpentine qualities. It is unknown what caused their civilisation to fall into ruin, but most agree that they are gone but not forgotten. Any explorer of Yuan-Ti cities who’s worth his salt will tell you that these snake people are not gone, but merely slumbering in their dead cities, waiting for the day where they shall rise again to bring the world to heel. Most explorers will also agree that the splendour of Ankhamon lies not in its golden sands and crimson sunset, but the numerous cave systems under the land, there one finds strange and ancient technology Long lost and thought impossible to even exist. A few weeks back I asked my followers to submit ideas for maps and content. We concluded that exercise with an idea: Yuan-Ti ruins in the desert, packed with lost technology. And so I present to you, Ankhamon an arid land far to the east across the Isles of Eternal Autumn. Here strange ruins dot the barren landscape as sinister snake-men plot to restore their once glorious civilisation inside their dead cities. For the coming weeks I will be posting content on this new land, it’s lore and its characters. Posts will now be up every fortnightly, due to me starting my full-time job soon. Finally settled in Seoul and back from my hiatus! For this week’s #mapmonday, we take a trip to the western reaches of the Upper Black Moors, a desolate land with virtually no settlements. The undead that infest the rain sodden highlands call their home here, terrorising the high roads and further complicating the ongoing conflict in these lands. ——— The royalist forces have set up an advance camp here in a bid to push further into the Argent Sky rebel’s territory. So far, there has only been non-decisive skirmishes and a choking stalemate for either side of the civil war. ——— Resting on the mere of Parsifus’ Tears, is the Isle of Wights. An ancient fortress dating back to the Age of Legends, this solitary isle in a marsh of dead trees are haunted by warriors cursed to forever reenact their long forgotten battles that have since faded back into the mists of time. ———— And with that, we conclude our journey in the Upper Moors. All the maps of the Upper Moors will be made available on my Patreon page sometime this week! For #mapmonday this week, we travel south-west from Heimdeigr to visit the riverside town of Blüdcreek! ————— Blüdcreek is most known for 3 things: 1) Dzemar’s Descent: a ropelift and a set of sturdy wooden stairs built into a great tower that connects the riverside town to the rest of the upper moors. 2) The Blackmoor Exchange: a building where many skilled artisans and craftsman ply their trade, it also serves as a trade hub of sorts for the villages of the upper moors. 3) Othelia’s Fisheries: the lifeblood of the town, the fishery plies their stretch of the Red River Rush fishing for Crimson Trout, an exotic species of trout considered to be a delicacy, native to the region. ————— However, their proximity to the Red River Rush is a bane as much as a boon to the town. Drowners, or waterlogged ghouls are known to infest the waters of the area, fisherman of the town have learnt through experience to never let their guard down no matter how safe they are, for scores have lost their fathers and brothers to the fiendish undead that calls the river home. ————— Despite their proximity towards the Orcish stronghold of Mag’Tharo, the Orcs somehow shun the town... seemingly afraid of something that they say dwell in the caverns of Corpse Drop. The townsfolk never wish to investigate this claim.
