kenna was born and raised in new york city. she was the daughter of a father who drifted in and out of her life, whenever it was convenient for him, mostly when he needed to impress someone and look like a great father. it didn’t stop her from getting her hopes up every time he said he was going to come visit. her mother worked constantly just to keep them afloat. by the time she was a teenager, she’d already learned how to take care of herself: making meals from almost nothing.
even during the hardest years, she always dreamed of leaving. she craved the family she never really had. late at night, she’d sit out on the fire escape, staring at the skyline, imagining a quieter life somewhere near the ocean. at nineteen, after one last fight with her dad, she decided enough was enough. kenna packed everything she could fit into two bags and left the city behind for a small seaside town she’d only seen in pictures.
the beginning wasn’t easy. kenna worked odd jobs, struggled to fit into the slower pace of town life, and spent many nights wondering if she’d made a mistake. but little by little, the town became home. the ocean calmed something restless inside her, and for the first time in her life, she found people who cared about her without expecting anything in return.
she works as an event planner at the local community centre, where she’s known for bringing warmth and energy into everything she touches. she organizes festivals, beach fundraisers, holiday markets, and summer concerts, pouring her heart into creating moments that bring people together. free-spirited, creative, and endlessly compassionate, she’s the kind of person who dances barefoot at bonfires and remembers everyone’s favourite song.
"hey, i'll happily join you up on that hill. ...maybe with some mints, because they make my breath smell just awful, but... i totally agree with you on that one. best flavor, easy." xio selects a bag of the same color and opens it up, reaching inside to pull out a well-seasoned chip. "i didn't even know they made those. are they any good? or a total disaster? 'cause i could see it going either way."
"oh that's so fair. but fuck it, they're wort the bad breath." kenna popped a chip in her mouth. "the flavour isn't as strong as it could've been but they're surprisingly still pretty good! i'm pretty sure there were other combo flavours too."
elijah didn't mind being busy himself, so he could tell that kenna obviously enjoyed the busy time as well, which looked to be a good thing for the center. this was one of the reasons why he'd loved sticking around palmview, the events in town pretty much brought the crowds out, and it was cool to see. "i'm a personal trainer. figured i should start doing like the content creator wannabes and make some merch of my own, for promotion or whatever, you know? but i suck at slogans or catchy names, so i don't even know what i'd put on a shirt." he was evidently out of his element, but he could still learn about making shirts, he figured. "but in the spirt of the gays, i could make a shirt that's on theme instead. got any ideas for an 'ally' design?"
“okay, that’s cool! do you have a logo? something simple to give it a pride theme would be to put the logo in the colours of the different flags.” she suggested. “do you have a target audience? it might be easier to come up with catchy phrases and such if you know who you’re marketing toward.”
oh, walking tour it is. cool. quinn waits for kenna to say more, and that was it. “ did you just — really? ” he looks at the flyer, squints mildly as though it will produce more information for him. “ do i go there now? are there time slots? aren’t you going with me? ” a small parade of questions, but he had to ask. “ kenna, you can’t just say those things and not give me anything . . . else. ”
kenna let out a short laugh at his twenty questions before beginning to answer them. she took the flyer, flipped it over and handed it back. “times are on the back. we do every tuesday, thursday and saturday in june. i’ll be leading multiple of the tours so sure, i’ll go with you. any more questions?”
the joyful little nose scrunch on libby's face comes almost involuntarily, kenna's energy practically radiating off onto her. “abba is so classic,” she hums, mulling over her options. “love all three picks, but if we did super trouper, are we going to do the iconic point?”
"it's the best one i've got." xio shrugged, but she agreed with kenna on this one - it'd work on her, too. "i have a few!" lifting the lid on her picnic basket, xio shows off a mostly chip-filled inside, letting kenna take her pick. "i grabbed one of those big variety packs at the store. might have brought too many, but, in my defense, i was planning on sharing with more people."
“cool ranch is the best flavour. that’s a hill i will die on.” kenna grabbed the blue bag from the basket and pulled it open. “have you ever had those mixed flavour ones? they had that cool ranch and dill pickle one?”
"didn't know it's called serigraphy. some people just called it with some shit like shirt printing or whatever." she shrugs, through the was interest, the woman was looking for things to do that day anyway. "so are the prints like... we can come up with our own, or there's options we can only pick from?"
“it can be called that! it just a very specific method and can be done on many different canvases, not just clothing. we’ll have some canvases available to use as well.” kenna explained. “unfortunately it is specific prints as it does require stencils. but the fun part about serigraphy is even using the same stencils, no two designs will ever be the same.”
"oh, please tell me you'll be on it." kai could picture it now, kenna up on the float, waving around a rainbow flag, getting everyone into the spirit. "i almost was, once, but i wound up getting sick the day before and had to miss it. terrible luck."
“i hadn’t decided yet but i probably will be. i do love watching the parade too though.” she sighed, wishing somehow she could do both. “do you want to be on it? we were hoping to have some community members on it with us.”
" welcome in. " the customer-service-lilt in iris's voice lifts up the otherwise flippant greeting, a call-and-response to the bell above the door ringing. " we have sales on crystals today, but i don't recommend the moldavite unless you're ready for — " ' mrrow '. iris's head snaps towards the sound at the same second xenomorph decides to jump from a high shelf onto whatever counter her guest had stopped in front of. oops. " oof — she's nice, i swear. s'why boss lets me keep her in here — you got salmon treats in your pocket or did you just manifest a cat today ? "
kenna still wasn't sure that she believed in all of the herbal, crystal, pseudoscience type stuff but it was always interesting to her. she popped into the store just to take a look around. it only took a moment for a cat to pop up right in front of her. "hi baby." she lifted her hand for the cat to sniff. "oh yeah, i just carry around treats in my pocket, just in case i run into a cat in a herbalist shop." she chuckled.

location: electric lights beach club, palmview pride event.
" is this seat taken ? " alyssa would ask as she would approach a familiar face up at the bar. she had work in the morning because she was still getting things ready for the fashion show the fashion house had been in the process of getting ready for. " i've got an early morning but i figured.. why not, right ? plus, the fact that i did not feel like staying at the apartment alone today. it's been one of those days where i just needed to get out. " she wasn't really paying attention to how she had basically been rambling now. " the photobooth pics are sooo cute i heard. we should so go check it out ! "
"lyss, hey! this seat is all yours." she grinned when she spotted her friend. kenna had been run off her feet everyday lately so a drink after a long day sounded great. "is everything okay, babe? you want to talk about it?" kenna waved over the bartender so alyssa could order something. "oh i've seen some, they're so cute."

"hey, you don't want to sit with me, by any chance, do you? i was supposed to meet up with my friends, but i have no idea where they ran off to, and... honestly, i'm too hungry to keep trying to find them." xio holds up a bag of chips in offering, hoping it'll sweeten the deal. "i'll share my doritos with you."
"free doritos is a pretty convincing argument." kenna took a seat next to the girl. "wandering around hungry and trying to track down missing friends sounds like a terrible way to spend lunch. what flavour are we working with?" she peered over at the bag.
" happy pride! " genevieve beams, accepting the flyer. " let's see... " blue eyes skim the page before she clicks her tongue dramatically, shaking her head slightly. " i'm definitely interested in a few of these. plus, if i attend enough events, maybe i'll finally stop getting accused of only showing up because it's good content for the paper. " she scans the flyer once more before looking back at kenna with a smile. " honestly, i'm impressed. there's enough here to keep people busy all month long. " her gaze drops back to the page. " which ones are your favorites? i feel like that's the real question. "
"i'm so glad to hear that! i would love for you to come and have fun but i'm also always happy when you mention us in the paper. i think people don't always see the kind of fun things we do here." every time the community centre was featured in the paper, they would see some new faces coming in and signing up for different activities. "my favourite would have to be the serigraphy. i'm so excited to see people create their own colours and designs."
"happy pride!" kai repeats, happily taking the offered flyer to look over it. "wow. i think you might have all outdone yourselves this year. look at all of this! well done, you." the list of events was lengthy, and it warms his heart. "i don't know if i can even pick a favorite. i do love a good pride parade, though. it's a classic."
"thank you!" kenna and her team worked really hard on planning these events and she was so excited for all of them. "we're actually going to have a float in the parade this year. it's gonna be so cool!"
“ hey, kenna, ” quinn greets before accepting the flyer and doing a quick read of what’s printed. everything looks fun — the writing workshop had him chuckling. a few of his writer friends come to mind. “ what’s this tour through town? ” he taps his finger on the flyer and shows it to her. “ is it like a walking tour? ”
kenna had a lot of pride in the events that she and her team had come up with so she got excited every time someone showed interest in the events. "it will be a walking tour. but i think that's all i can say." she made a motion of zipping her lips. "if you want to know more, i think you're just going to have to come see it for yourself."
" hey, happy pride ! " hadley would say with a happy smile forming along her features. " i had been looking at getting some more information on the tour through town that'll be going on ! " she figured that while she was in the area that she would stop in here first. " i have a couple of friends i'm planning on bringing along with me. so i figured i'd stop in here while i was already running a few errands ! which ones do you think you'll end up attending ? there's so many i want to do. "
"oh yeah, the tour's going to be great! it's going to be a walking tour, starting here at the community center. i don't want to spoil it but we'll be going to see a couple of spots that were significant in palmview's history with lgbtqia+ rights, we'll visit some small businesses owned and run by queer people... with a little bit of time for shopping in each, of course." kenna explained. history wasn't typically a subject that interested her but this was one sector that she tried to learn more about. "honestly, i'll probably end up at each of them for a little while to make sure everything runs smoothly."
smiling at the shorter woman greeting him, elijah took one of the offered flyers and gave it a quick scan. "you guys are going to be pretty busy this month, huh?" he mused, and now he remembered why small talk was either a hit or miss for him. taking another look at the list of things going on at the center, one did make him raise a brow. "this shirt printing thing. i've actually been toying with the idea of creating my own shirts for work, just something cheesy or whatever, so can i try that out while i'm here?"
"oh yeah. this month keeps me movin', for sure but it's so much fun." she nodded in agreement. kenna gave him a minute to look over the flyer. she grinned when something seemed to grab his attention. "we are looking to gear things mostly toward LGBTQIA+ themes but if you want to try out a couple of things, that shouldn't be an issue. what do you do for work?"
"well, happy pride to you, too." indigo gives the girl a smile, taking the flyer from the other as she reads through things on the list, humming to herself, before glancing back up. "wait, what is...serigraphy? that sounds hella interesting."
"thank you!" she smiled back at the girl. "oh, it's so much fun! it's basically like manual ink printing. you take a mesh stencil and a canvas, or t-shirt and press ink through it to make cool designs."
