Orchid hated her current outfit. It revealed a bit too much at the top for her. But according to her boss it was the official uniform of the tavern. The nasty red dress was also so tight around her waist and stomach she dreaded ever having to pick anything up off the floor.
Well… that’s what she had Scrabble for. The little kobold waited on her hand and foot. Though currently he was drunkenly napping in their shared room.
She then was faced with completing a task she didn’t want to do. Her tray was filled with a few drinks and she was turned around to face a table of sailors. As usual each was eyeing the raven haired beauty. She moved forward and began to placed the drinks out for the men when one of them decided it would be a good idea to wrap an arm around her waist.
In a quick flurry of movement Orchid grabbed the the man but both his arm and the back of his neck. She slammed his head down on the table with a sickening crack and held him there with the sailors arm twisted behind his back. “Touch me again, and I’ll toss you and your friends into the harbor.” She hissed before slamming him down once more and letting him go. Without another word she went around the bar and disappeared into a back room in a huff.
Aragne was playing that night although she was currently seated in the back room, tuning her viola. Her head snapped up when she heard the loud bang. She stood just as the other woman came in.
“Oh ah hello, miss.” She bowed to the other. “Um, is everything alright out there?”
“Perverts being perverts.” Orchid said grumpily as she went behind a curtain to start undressing. She was done for today and not even her boss could change her mind.
She dropped her dress and went to pick up her normal clothes. When she did however a small kobold was napping under them. “Scrabble! Get out!” She shouted giving the little creature a swift kick to send him running.
He quickly ran from behind the curtain and climbed up into a chair next to the musician. “Sorry captain. Your clothes just smell so nice.” He apologized before turning to look at the halfling sitting beside him. He held out his clawed hand and gave what could only be the kobold version of a smile. “Hello there miss. Lovely day it is.” He said still holding that wide grin.
Her eyes turned to the kobold when he sat next to her. This job was already so much to take in. But she could manage it! Just hopefully, no men made comments about her.
She wore a dull red kimono that fit her perfectly. Her short brown curls were held from her face with a flower pin she bought at the market.
“Oh ah hello there.” She shook his clawed hand. “Ah, I’m Aragne. I’m the musician for the night.”
He gave a nervous laugh and began to kick his feet while picking at his scales.
Orchid stepped out now in her black shirt and pants covered by her long Jade colored coat. Across it's back was a large imagine of a sinister smiling panda. "You having fun at our little hell hole?" She asked the halfling as she took a seat on the floor to pull up her boots.

He felt the world slow down as he had finally arrived at a point he’d always feared. His secret was about to get out. But did it really matter? The bastard didn’t actually die anyways.
Skolfen sighed aloud and gave in. “Fuck it…” He looked dead at Caleb and showed him the flyer. “The man who runs this carnival abused me. I slit his throat but apparently he’s still kicking.”
The younger tiefling turned to Mollymauk and clasped his hands together as if in prayer. “I need you to come with me. Something isn’t right here. I watched him bleed out, now he’s here in the same town in the middle of nowhere as me. That’s not a coincidence.” Skolfen begged. His heart was pounding so fast it was shaking his body a bit and he was almost out of breath. He looked on the verge of an anxiety attack.
Caleb held out his hand, took the flyer. “I see.” He nodded slowly, not really saying much else on the circumstances of the matter. Skolfen’s reaction wasn’t unfamiliar to him. The day they nearly bumped into Trent he’d barely held it together until night fell, shaking like he had a fever, brain set only to survival mode. He, too, had worried this wasn’t a coincidence, that they had made too much of a name for themselves.
“Surely, you don’t expect us to just walk in there and slaughter him?” Molly asked. “I mean, even I can see this would be a very bad idea, probably.” Caleb nodded. “Ja. It could go wrong many ways.”
Molly padded the bed, motioned for Skolfen to sit. Caleb closed the door fully, as it was still ajar. “If you say something weird is up, we need to figure out what that is, first.” Mollymauk grinned recklessly. “I think I’ll see if they have any openings for a fortune teller, shall I?”
Skolfen was silent for a long time. He was just now realizing how stupid it was to not have a plan about this. He didn't have a plan two years ago and now look where he was.
The younger tiefling sighed loudly and put his face in his hands. "He'd love to have you. Horrible's got a thing for tieflings. There were two before me. They died young so I never met them." He said in response to Molly. "He'll definitely hire you." Skolfen then looked up and Caleb. "But if you want to help too, you have to be something special. No normal human ever made it into our ranks."
Skolfen went quiet again and began to scratch at the scars a long his arm. His mind races with paranoia and memories of his past he thought had been suppressed. He couldn't help but think of all the ways their plan could end badly. What of they for spirited away and never got to see their friends again. That would be Skolfen's luck. His tail lashed around as his mind spun. Skolfen didn't know what to do. He didn't know what to say. In his mind he was doomed.

“Can you automate me a sandwich?” [// for Skolfen from lutebodied]
Skolfen was lounging behind the bar at the Phoenix Fox tavern with his back to the the rest of the patrons. Then from behind him a voice came to him asking a question. Instead of turning around like a normal person Skolfen bent his head backwards so he could look up into the person’s face. To his delight it was a woman.
“I may not know what that means but I’ll certainly try anything for you princess.” The young tiefling said smiling widely to show off his set of dazzling white fangs.
"Yeah. I remember it all." He said still holding the blanket tight around his body. "It sounds crazy, but a monster came into my room. He grabbed me, I stabbed him, he threw me on the ground and then jumped out the window." Skolfen said looking up at her. The young tiefling's slender tail flicked around as he spoke and everything he said was in infernal as if trying to hide his intense lisp he'd somehow developed.
Skolfen was sure he sounded crazy. Then again he was sitting in his bed talking to a woman he had just been flirting with, but in the body of a child. The idea of a man breaking into his room didn't really seem that far fetched when he thought about it.

Skolfen was terrified as he lay in his hiding spot. He even had his hands clamped over his mouth so the sounds of his whimpering couldn’t be heard. He lay still trying to figure out if the person in his room was that monster still. Then the voice got angry and demanding. His heart felt as if it stopped and he felt as if he couldn’t keep hidden any longer.
Slowly he pulled the blanket off his head and sat up. On the bed wasn’t the tiefling Merritt had been flirting with before, but instead was a child of about ten or so. He looked up at her with his solid black eyes as he held his blanket around himself. He then quickly pulled it back over his head, cheeks turning a darker shade of purple as he blushed from embarrassment.
“Oh fuck.” It wasn’t difficult to put two and two together. Merritt was pretty sure who that child was. Still, couldn’t hurt to check. “Skolfen?”
It only now got through to her that the kid looked terrified. “Hey,” she spoke up in infernal, hoping that’d make him feel safer, and held up her hands in what she hoped was a placating gesture. “It’s gonna be okay. We’re going to sort this mess, alright? You’re safe. I won’t hurt you.” She stepped a little closer to see if the young tiefling would bolt.
He felt silly and his cheeks just kept getting warmer. Skolfen slowly pulled the blanket back away but didn't look at her. He must look like a complete idiot right now. He just wanted to disappear.
"I don't want to be seen..." He mumbled in infernal, his lisp very strong now. "This is stupid. I don't like this." The more he spoke the more his embarrassment was turning to anger. Skolfen growled and quickly pulled the blanket down over his face again. "I'm gonna be stuck like this forever! I hate this!" The little tiefling shouted out still in his native tongue. "I wanna be back to normal..." He said quietly still hiding away from her. Skolfen was sure any chances he EVER had with here had just been washed down the drain.

😈 Monster Mash 👿
The streets of the town were lined with ribbons of orange and black fabric. Every lamp post was adorned with a mask that showed the likeness of a monster from legend. Banners waved in the autumn breeze depicting battles between monsters and men.
All around the adventuring trio children in costumes ran shrieking from booth to booth and game to game at the carnival. Tonight was the first night in the week long celebration of Devil's Gate. The small town smelled of caramel and spices as candy and treats were being prepared and sold. Barkers bellowed out tag lines for games trying to draw in the crowd.
Only one booth had caught the attention of all three of the travelers though. They now stood in front of a single table that a young woman sat behind. "Just a copper a go, and no one loses." She said smiling slightly as she held up a hand of cards and held out her other hand for the coin. "What about you little one. Surely you want a pretty trinket." She said looking at Nott with her glittering purple eyes. The lady's long black hair was tied back with a purple ribbon that matched the color of her long flowing dress. "Or how about something for you two men there. I'm sure even you will like what I have in my box."

He quickly hopped over the bar in one effortless action. “Right this way.” He said, that low purr one again rolling in his chest.
Skolfen took her up the stairs and all the way down to one end of the second floor. He used a key to open the second from last door and pushed it open. “This will be your room.” He said playfully before tapping his knuckles on the door next to her’s. “This one is mine.” That wide smile pulled across the tiefling’s lips. “Come see me whenever you want. Give me a few minutes though.” He then handed her the key to her own room and slinked into his. There was a faint click as he locked it from the inside.
She took some time unpacking her stuff. It was likely she’d stay here for at least two nights, if only because she’d missed sleeping in a bed. When Merritt let herself fall back on the mattress, she sighed happily. Fresh straw, no lumps. She took some time looking out the window, making sure her instruments were stored safely.
When Merritt was sure a few minutes had passed, she exited the room to knock on Skolfen’s door. “You ready for me?” she called through the wood, leaning against the wall.
Merritt's call was answered by the sudden sound of something hitting the floor inside Skolfen's room with a loud thud as if thrown with great force. The impact was quickly followed by the loud crash of breaking glass. After that, the inn's second floor was once again completely quiet.
The door to the room was unlocked now. With a light push it even swung open to reveal the pitch black space. If the moon wasn't so bright Merritt wouldn't have been able to see because the lamp and few candles had all been put out.
Towards the back of the room the window stood broken, with a small dagger beneath it covered in a streak of crimson. There was no sign of Skolfen, save for a small bundle on the bed with a purple tail hanging out of it. As light from the hall spilled into the room the little bundle twitched and the tail quickly pull under the blanket as well.

“I may not know what that means but I’ll certainly try anything for you princess.” The young tiefling said smiling widely to show off his set of dazzling white fangs.
He sighed and crossed his arms as if defeated. “No, sadly I can’t get you a free room. My boss would kill me.” Skolfen frowned. “If I get you a room it’s gotta be put on the books and recorded. Food disappearing is easy to cover up. Guests staying in rooms for a long period of time aren’t.” He then smiled at her and slid his hands down into his pockets. “I could pay for the room or something along those lines.” He said to the other tiefling slyly.
Merritt chuckled. “Oh, darling, don’t worry. I’ve got coin. Book me a nice room, with- do you have a shared bathroom or is there a chance of a private bath? I stink.” She wrinkled her nose, though her eyes sparkled with amusement. Merritt wondered if he would jump at this opportunity.
Almost thoughtlessly, Skolfen took the bait. "All the larger rooms have private bathrooms." He told her. "But those are all booked up. But you can come borrow mine anytime."
He gave her a smile and then went over to get the book they kept all the booking information in. Skolfen flipped a few pages and then walked over to her again. "We've got one room right next to mine, so you don't have to walk very far." He said with a wink.
