âDo you think we were made for each other?â
âNo. People arenât made for others. You exist for yourself, and you donât owe anyone anything.â
In a world where knowing your soulmate is a very tangible thing, the method of knowing your soulmate is simple: at first touch, those involved feel a shock, followed by a flood of emotions and thoughts. And just like that, thereâs a connection, ever present, a soft ebb at the back of oneâs head that is like a constant reminder of their significant otherâs emotions and state of mind. Occasionally, some couples master this bond enough to send messages through the link. However, it can be inconvenient to many people, and thus researchers have endeavored to figure out a way to cut that connection. Person A is, somehow, in the custody of the researcher thatâs figured out how to; the perfect test subject. The researcher keeps close tabs on them, waiting for them to connect with their significant other in order to immediately sever it. Person A, thus, is absolutely terrified of finding their soulmate because they donât want it ripped away. Person B, a guard at the facility where the researcher works, notes this, and over time slowly grows close to Person A, offering to help them escape. It takes a little while, with the pair growing close, but during the escape, Person B grabâs Aâs hand for the first time, and theyâre both frozen for a moment - a moment that allows them to realize their soulmate was right there the whole time, and a moment that allows the other guards to properly surround them.
so Iâve been in a relationship for 5 years now. And I see a lot of posts about how people think relationships mean having butterflies forever, your heart beating faster when they walk into a room, about cuddling together every night, legs intertwined, that youâd be so happy to live together youâd sleep on a double bed with each other every night.
And its not really like that, at least not to me.
You stop getting the butterflies when you live together. Your heart no longer speeds up when you see them, but instead, everything calms down. When youre in the room with them, you feel calm, and secure. When you cuddle them you feel your heart beat slow, and the sound of their breathing carry you towards comfort. It doesnt feel like a roller coaster anymore, it feels like home.
You donât sleep curled up with each other every night, legs twisted between theirs so tight its hard to tell where yours begin and theirs end.
Instead, you sleep comfortably, side by side, sometimes facing different directions. But every night, you find yourself scooting backwards on the bed so you bump into them. You snuggle against their arm, or stroke their hair as they fall asleep. There are nights when my boyfriend, in his sleep, reaches around me and pulls me to him, like a child with his teddybear, like I am his comfort.
In the wee hours of the morning before the dawn breaks, when the world is blue and you see through cracked eyes, you curl into their chest and inhale their scent before drifting back to sleep.Â
Kisses arenât always romantic and firey anymore. But there are so much more of them now. There are cold kisses when youâre eating ice cream in the summer, and sticky kisses over breakfast pancakes. Thereâs âim leaving nowâ kisses, and âone more kiss before you goâ kisses. Thereâs sleepy morning kisses before work, when you donât remember the alarm going off but instead the press of their lips against yours is what brings you into the day.
Thereâs kisses before sleep, and, you are so sweet with the things you do kisses. Thereâs kisses because you treat animals so tenderly, and Iâm so glad iâm with you and not someone else kisses. Thereâs quick kisses in the aisles of the grocery store, when its loud and you gravitate together, when instead of having your own personal space and their own personal space, its both of yours together, and you step into their chest to take up less area together.Â
You donât always text each other with confessions of love and care like you used to, because thatâs a given now, and youâve moved on to quirky inside jokes about the life youve built together. You share looks of exasperation and amusement in public, your own little world against the outside one.Â
Relationships arenât always a fairy tale. Theyâre not always fireworks and sparks, at least, after the start.
But they are a quiet rhythm and hum of love and care. Itâs not a fire in your soul, but one in your hearth, keeping you warm and comfortable, comforting you as you drowsily drift into sleep.
And I love that.

Writing Prompt 1
Person A has some sort of super power that starts to show when they become overly emotional and Person B gently rests a hand on their knee to calm them down or some other kind of physical contact
"I am nothing if not consistent." "Yeah. A consistent pain in my ass."
Lasertag
Person A and person B are both invited to a mutual friendâs birthday party at a lasertag place. They are on opposite teams. Person A keeps shooting person B from behind and person B is getting pretty annoyed because they canât see whoâs doing it.
Finally person B turns around quickly enough to catch Person A doing it and spends the rest of the game getting revenge. While the fight continues around them, the focus only on chasing each other around.
Person A then disappears from person Bâs sight and person B searches for them, when they are once again shot from behind. Person B swivels around to catch person A standing right behind them.
Person A then grins and kisses person B. Person B kisses person A back until person B is âaliveâ again, then promptly shoots person A and runs off with a smirk.

Dialogue Prompt #1
"What do you want?" "Just your undivided love and attention."
âI love you dearly, but I am also going to slam-dunk you into a trash can at the first available opportunity.â
âThatâs fair.â
Concept: two friends (m/f, m/m or f/f) they work at a hotel. And they get into all kinds of shenanigans together. Stay in empty suites together. They use the pool during after hours. The boss is out on business trips most of the time so they are in charge of keeping things in order when really all theyâre doing is basically living for free and meeting people who stay the night/weekend/or however long. Just crazy fun that sometimes lands them in trouble (they witness things that they wish they hadnât)(they find money to go out on fancy dates)(they meet people of all kinds)
Bonus:they might have a crush on each other and during their adventures, these crushes only grown with time.
how about the cliche (but can be personalized) your family took me in because my parents canât take care of me and i hate the idea so i try to do everything possible to get kicked out and i start to flirt with you and seduce you out of spite but you respond really well and youâre really cute so we kinda get too comfortable and one day your parents find out and they give us an ultimatum that either we stop whatever it is we have or i have to go and.. i kinda like it here so letâs stop. but wait⌠we donât want to end what we have, do we?Â
