romeo alvara was born as seong jae ( surname, given name ) to a young mother who could not afford to have children and an unknown father, the woman’s only choice was to give her baby boy up for adoption. he was officially adopted by an american family when he was two years old, after having been in the process of adoption approval for the past year, and brought to america not knowing a word of english.
his adoptive parents tried for years and years to have a child of their own, they saw multiple doctors who told them a pregnancy was unlikely but they could still try. they were completely unsuccessful in the long run so it seemed that adoption was their only option. they’d tried in the united states to find a younger child that they just clicked with but were also unsuccessful, they were either too rowdy or misbehaved too much for their liking. so they turned to toddlers and babies, a social worker had suggested they could adopt from out of the country and that was ultimately the route they took. upon first meeting romeo, the two instantly fell in love with him and knew he was their son. the next year was full of paperwork and multiple trips back and forth between oregon and south korea until everything was finalized and they were able to take their baby home.
upon his adoption finalization, he was renamed, given the name romeo. he’d already begun learning korean so his new parents had begun teaching him english as well as hiring someone who knew korean to also teach him his native tongue so he could still maintain a sense of his native culture. for the next year, the three of them spent their time learning and getting to know each other. it was nice to have a family, romeo was quick to start calling his new parents mom and dad. he liked that it was just the three of them. but then a miracle happened, his mom had gotten pregnant. nine months later, she popped out a beautiful baby bay named theodore.
even though he was just three, nearly four, years old when his younger brother was born, his entire life seemed to be upheaved. all of the attention that was once on him was now on his brother and romeo did not like that one bit. instead of playing with him at the park like his parents would do pretty regularly, they’d be seated nearby with the baby giving him tummy time all while romeo was left to his own vices. television time was no longer his once theo grasped the idea of paying attention. instead of watching his big kid shows, his parents put on baby shows like sesame street and barney to keep baby theodore occupied. romeo wasn’t allowed to get a new toy when they went shopping but theo got to keep anything his little hands could hold. it didn’t take long for romeo to grow to resent his brother and it only seemed to get worse as time went on.
romeo felt like he was always competing with his brother for their parents’ attention. any of the major accomplishments that romeo had made never seemed to compare to the minor accomplishments theo had made. because of his hatred for his little brother, romeo absolutely hates talking about theo. they barely talk, not unless it’s about their parents or holiday visits. he changes the subject whenever someone brings his family up, even if it’s just about his parents. sometimes he feels like his parents would have given him up if they could when he was a kid which is an awful thing to think but with how his childhood had gone, romeo can’t help have such thoughts.

okay so he’s not violent but he will threaten to punch your or kick the shit out of you if you annoy him which is honestly totally crazy because he just looks like this cute, soft, cuddly boy who wouldn’t hurt a fly and honestly, that’s basically true. he’s all bark and no bite. violence as his vice is him taking out his anger with punching bags. the only time romeo is a dick is when jealousy is involved, he just+ gets super competitive.
he’s got a thing for small girls because they make him feel taller and more... masculine. mans got some big hands, he loves holding hands, too.
romeo is almost always eating, he absolutely loves food and will say yes to getting food even if it means that he’s paying whenever somebody asks. the best way to his heart is giving him food, props if it was something you made yourself.
he loves attention but not when it’s in front of huge crowds, he gets kind of shy if tons of people are around. but when it’s a one-on-one situation, he eats the attention up.
