Random things I think I should note(?): I get like super obsessed with stuff easily lol. I have four cats (Fern, Acorn, Papaya, and Racoon (we don’t like raccoon /lh). I use tone tags a lot (dont be afraid to ask their meanings please!) for clarification bc I Am Like That (I don’t need tags used for me tho). I like tag and ask games a lot! This is super super important and a topic that is significant to me personally.
Mutt is a slur. When you use mutt in reference to human-bodied beings (even yourself) it perpetuates the idea that it's okay to call people that slur. It hurts beings within the community and humans outside of the community. Please do not perpetuate the dehumanization of people of color.
The use of this slur may not be a common problem where you come from, but there are many places and contexts where it is still a big problem, and people coming across your posts may not recognize that.
Being a therian and a racial minority is extremely difficult and as a community we should strive to be as inclusive as possible to critters of all colors.
As a nonhuman entity in a white body who's deep in the Alterhuman community, I'm backing OP completely—this is fucking crucial. Yeah, I learned "mutt" meant mixed breed as a kid, now that I’m aware I have to put the work into unlearning it. I also grew up thinking "ABO" was fine for A/B/O or that it didn't matter. Then I got educated that without slashes, it's a horrible slur. I stopped using it.
We adapted. We learned. Anyone arguing that westernized interpretations or adaptions of harmful language and pronouns created from it matters more than POC minorities being harmed by these words— you need to do goddamned better, there's no excuse for you.
Unpack your racism.
Coin new terms and pronouns. Stop prioritizing your comfort, nostalgia, and culture over the voices of minorities who are actually getting hurt by this shit.
Hey prev, I saw your reblog of this in the notes, and you have asks off so saying in a reblog. I'm really glad that you as a white entity are passionate about racism!! I hope you'll be willing to hear me out on one more thing; to be clear I don't say this to chastize you (and I'm not upset at you), but to educate you, as someone who myself is mixed and a person of colour.
Adding additions to posts about race that talk about how you, as a white entity, used to do racist things and now know better, as well as emphasizing what the original poster said, is in itself a microaggression. It suggests that people of colour need our words to be signed off by white people, that we need white approval when we speak about racism, and ultimately circles the conversation back to whiteness. It disallows conversations about race and racism to be held in a manner which doesn't centre whiteness and implicitly tells people of colour that even in discussions of our own oppression, we cannot escape the noise of whiteness.
In the future when you reblog these sorts of posts, I would suggest to do so without comment, or to stick to only short comments that uplift the original poster without inserting yourself into the post. Again, I don't think you did this maliciously and I'm not here to chastize you, simply informing you for the future. Now you know!
