Aviatrix Ellie sketch I did for Mr. Docter last October.
Lottery win. Lee Unkrich @leeunkrich gave me advice. He was so happy for me, it showed in his eyes and smile. He's done this before and he wants me to not miss what's important. "Just try to find a way to enjoy it when it is happening." This is one of those moments I can point to that shows: I work with the best human beings on the planet.
I won't make a habit of this, I promise. Unsolicited advice I try to avoid being on either end of normally. But I do happen to faceplant regularly and after the initial shock and chagrin, a few deep breaths, you dust yourself off--and try again. Even learn something. (at Pixar)

December 5th 1933: Prohibition ends
On this day in 1933, Prohibition officially ended in the United States upon the ratification of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution. Utah was the final state to ratify the amendment, and this gave the measure the required 75% of state approval. The 21st Amendment repealed the 18th Amendment of 1920 which had imposed Prohibition, which banned alcohol in the United States. The amendment was the result of a lobbying campaign by conservative Protestants of both parties who argued that alcohol was debilitating to both health and morality. The prohibition movement stemmed from long-running temperance campaigns against alcohol in the nineteenth-century. The alcohol ban raised considerable protest, and led many to brew their own bootleg alcoholic drinks which in turn gave rise to an increase in organised crime and the power of gangsters like Chicago’s infamous Al Capone. As well as widespread opposition, the Great Depression contributed to the end of Prohibition as the ban withheld sorely needed tax revenue from the government during that economic crisis. The momentous passage of the 21st Amendment marked the only time in American history when one amendment has overturned another.
Because of me. I am going to will you, master Miyazaki, to live forever! That is why.
Miracleman #7 Variant cover. I had a great time working on the cover and I chronicle the making of on my oldest blog, Tirade. It is hard to get a hold of an actual variant issue (one for every 25 of the main cover issue). So satisfying to hold the printed cover--of which I have a total of one. But still a rush. Tirade post This cover with banner and graphics
“Poets and beggars, musicians and prophets, warriors and scoundrels, all creatures of that unbridled reality, we have had to ask but little of imagination, for our crucial problem has been a lack of conventional means to render our lives believable.” "Life itself is the greatest source of inspiration," he said. "I see dreams as part of life in general, but reality is much richer. "But maybe," he added, "I just have very poor dreams." Gabriel Garcia Marquez (1927-2014)
All New X-Men #25 I got the invite and couldn't believe my lucky stars. Illyana Rasputin and Kitty Pryde. Can I do it like a movie poster? Heck, YEAH?! I want to make it like a Lee Marvin bombs-a'-bursting, car chase extravaganza with ninjas and monsters. I was running a fever on the days I was completing it and crossed my fingers as I sent it off. And here it is finally. I had to block out the fact that there are all these amazing artists who are in the same book (terror). I would have just froze. Gratitude and much respect goes out to the great Brian Michael Bendis for tailoring this to give me so much room to play and Nick Lowe for tremendous support and encouragement. I hope I can do more in the future.
