Been seeing an uprising in zutara shippers since the movie leak (not that its bad, I dont hate the ship)

But theres a select few that are twisting it as a "Katara is cheating on Aang with Zuko!" Which is a huge disservice to both Kataras and Zukos characters, its also just like, weird? Idk.

I just wanted to throw this out there, ship whatever, dont let me stomp on your cake.

Personally, I see too many posts about how Zuko and Katara could never be together even if they love each other because they owe their respective love interests, which I think also does a disservice to their characters. Or the idea that you should multi or poly ship because Katara needs to be with Aang, in particular. The recent cheating jokes have also arisen from the fact that Bryke won't let zutara even be friends in post canon material.

Cheating situations can be created, and not just by the cheating partner, and if we're going to act like Aang owns Katara, then she doesn't owe him any loyalty.

Im not afting like he owns her. Im literally just saying im not a fan of the cheating trope the fans are putting her. Thats it.

I decently LIKE Zutara. I like seeing content of it. Im not saying cheating tropes cant exist im just saying I PERSONALLY (key word) dont like it.

I have the exact same issue with ANY cheating jokes/headcanons about the entire cast. Its just I see it more WITH KATARA. Thats why I was talking about KATARA.

Also, on the sexism issue, you might want to check on the chucklefuck defending kataang in the comments of this post. You may not think that saying it's okay for Toph to have an affair with Sokka or Zuko is sexist, but there's someone in the comments going all in on how kataang is a committed relationship and Toph is "promiscuous" and praising Katara for being "modest."

I have less of an issue with the toph jokes because most (KEY WORD ALERT) people arent saying it as a "zuko and sokka are cheating w/ toph" but more as just a shipping joke where zuko or sokka are in a relationship with Toph and not their canonical S/os

I think when I say "we" (KEYWORD ALERT) it means the general we, not you.

I see people making a lot of assumptions about what zutara shippers do vs the rest of the fandom, how zutara shippers are totally serious and probably mean everything they say in the worst way possible, and that's annoying. It also makes me want to double down on saying that Zuko and Katara are definitely having a passionate affair.

Your post also would have come across better if you hadn't called people weird and said that their headcanons were a disservice to both characters. Like, there is a difference between saying you personally don't like something and insulting people.

Also not every shipper is looking for dynamics that are healthy, and that's okay, too.

I'd like to add that Bryke are the ones who created the conditions for the cheating jokes to take root.

People in secret relationships - cheating or not cheating - have a weird tendency to try and never interact with each other so they're never found out. If everyone is giving hugs they'll be the odd ones to give a handshake.

What did Bryke have Katara and Zuko do? Never talk and barely look in each other's direction despite having a sturdy friendship by the end of the series. Zuko's scar disappearing doesn't help when the only person who could make that disappear would be 'greatest healer in the world' Katara.

Bryke's pettiness was not only ineffective - the zk fics, art and edits have exploded in the last week - but also backfired in creating all the cheating allegation jokes.

I get that, I just really dont like them lol. I understand alot of it stems from Bryke trying to dispell Zutara from the fandom (idk if thats how you say it).

Headcanon whatever and ship whatever I was just saying that I find the headcanon weird

I get that, I'm not huge on the cheating either at the same time I agree with sokkastyles. A lot of the pearl clutching reactions from the other side come from a place of ownership by Aang than actually caring about Katara. (Not saying this is your stance)

I also get why the jokes are happening. The anti hate is pretty bad and 'ruining' the canon Bryke holds so dearly with jokes - that Bryke themselves setup - is an outlet for some.

There are def some fans who will run with this trope but for a majority I think it's more solidly a joke than a headcanon they believe.

If you aren't acting like Aang owns Katara, which a lot of people do, then I don't see why you're taking this as a personal attack on you. But, again, you have only to look in the comments of your post to see people repeating sexist garbage.
