Updates on In the Flesh
The GoFundMe is getting close to Dominic Mitchell's goal. If you haven't seen, the creator/writer/showrunner of the show is in the process of writing a script for a series 3 episode 1 of In the Flesh and the script will only be released to those who are donating to the GoFundMe.
In addition to getting access to the script, those that donate over 25£ will also get a hard copy signed script, access to a one episode podcast with Dominic and some of the cast and crew and a video interview with Dominic.
Dominic Mitchell has also been posting updates and sneak peeks on his Twitter account of the script. I've compiled all the previous updates in this post here.
Plus this recent additon.
Dominic has said that the script is getting close to finished and he hopes that the fundraising efforts will give some sort of sign to the powers that be that there is still interest in this wonderful show!
Donate if you can!
I wish I could fund it, but this year is the worst ever, so if you are able to, please do. In the Flesh is so worth it!
«Уязвимый ещё не значит слабый»
Лорен Шиппен о «Бесконечном шуме» – YA-романе о любви, который вырос из подкаста
Подкасты и в особенности аудиодрамы становятся всё более популярными, и постепенно возникают «кроссоверы» между слушанием и чтением. Welcome to Night Vale, The Adventure Zone, Alice Isn’t Dead и Steal the Stars – все эти художественные подкасты стали книгами, которые расширили границы миров, родившихся в ваших наушниках, и нашли новые ключики к вашему воображению.

Mr. Gallagher, if you would like to say anything on your own behalf, now is the time.
Nothing? Very well, then...
I'm really smart, sir. I'd read all of Jane Austen by the time I was 12. Including her lesser-known work, Lady Susan, which is a severely underrated piece of feminist literature. Um... My father, uh, he has kind of a brilliant mind. You know, and that's... That's a pretty hard thing for me to admit, because he's such a waste of space and all, but... you know, it's true. I can also debate the inherent difference between existentialism and transcendentalism, explaining why Sartre is the prominent voice of the former, and the latter is barely remembered as a philosophical movement. He could have been a college graduate, but instead, he dropped out, uh, he fucked up his kids, and he drinks, and does drugs. That's his whole life. I can also gauge the depths of Mr. Hendricks' personal despair based on his choice of Hawaiian shirt. I want to be around people like Professor Youens. And Professor Runyon, even though she... It's minds like theirs... um... you know, these minds that... That are brilliant, you know, and they aren't wasted. I, uh, I don't have any big ideas about what I want to do with my life, but [chuckles] I'm really smart. This morning I was washing dishes at the diner where I work, and Professor Youens called me, and I thought... "I miss that." You know, I don't miss the kids who grew up so privileged they didn't even know what they had. But I miss being around people with minds like Professor Youens', you know. I just got unlucky in the family department. And I think if I could get a couple more years of that, I'd have a real good shot at, uh... making some better choices than my father made. I don't get any support. And sometimes I do the wrong thing. I don't blame anybody else for what I did, and I do regret it. But But if you guys would have me back, I know I can be better. And if you give me a second chance, I-I promise, you know, I'll... I will not waste it. I'll do better. Thank you.
Thank you, Maeve.
I was looking for some new content from Moddi for his Russian page that I manage and I found videos from his Christmas concert with Jentekoret Stas at Sagene Church in Oslo. And then I googled this amazing church and Wiki told me it’s the one O Helga Natt scene had been flimed. And that’s how I stumbled upon this little masterpiece that brought back all the feelings.
“Neither of us is going to be the normal one, “ the character from Lauren Shippen’s The Infinite Noise says. Neither of us is a broken person in need of being fixed, of being saved. Neither of us is a savior who has to sacrifice something precious to be with the broken one. We all are broken in our own ways, and we all can help each other nevertheless. We save each other, in turn, minute by minute, again and again. This is how it works. This is how it works out.
My dear girl, you have now moved into an area where there is no criteria, no measure, that you can apply that will tell you if you are in a world of truth or lies, the world where two plus two is four, where I pick up this apple and it falls to the floor... You’re no longer living in that world. You’re living in a world where if I let go of the apple, it floats to the ceiling, where two plus two is nine, or nothing at all... The only currency in this world is lies. It is a world where lies become truth. Lies are no longer lies. There are no truths anymore.
Passenger List, Episode 1.08 — "The White Matchmaker"
Passenger List came to my podcast app shortly after a Lost anniversary podcast and the one on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 shoot-down (it’s Russian). And that felt like an appropriate company for it. Lots of London Spy echoes too, both emotionally and ideas-wise.
How’s debate club going?
I thought I was doing better this year, or at least, I’m appearing better from the outside. My parents look at me with less concern in their eyes, they don’t make me leave the door open all the time, I don’t want to hurt myself anymore. As much. Well, I don’t hurt myself as much anymore. It doesn’t matter what I want. I’m good with not doing/getting/having what I want.

Reading the news and getting angrier and angrier, but you know there’s little I can do about terrible things that keep happening. I’m sure you can’t relate.
Welcome to Night Vale, ep. 155 - The Heist, part 3
Once again WTNV finds just the right words to summarize my whole existence in Russia right now.
You left him out there by himself, but he wasn’t alone. There were his lifelong friends with him—friends that he had grown up with. You’re probably wondering who these friends were. First, he had the beautiful night sky with the same stars and moon that we used to look at through a telescope. Then, he had the daylight and the sun to shine on him one more time—one more cool, wonderful autumn day in Wyoming. His last day alive in Wyoming. His last day alive in the state that he always proudly called home. And through it all he was breathing in for the last time the smell of Wyoming sagebrush and the scent of pine trees from the snowy range. He heard the wind—the ever-present Wyoming wind—for the last time. He had one more friend with him. One he grew to know through his time in Sunday school and as an acolyte at St. Mark’s in Casper as well as through his visits to St. Matthew’s in Laramie. He had God. I feel better knowing he wasn’t alone.

Some days I wonder if I’ll miss you after you go away forever, Doug. Today’s not one of them, but there are some days when I do wonder. I doubt it, but you never know. I am full of surprises. На одном – черной тушью – дерево, раскидистое и корявое, почти без листьев. На голой ветке сидит очень одинокий и лохматый ворон, а внизу, у корней, свалка всякого мусора. Here, amidst the now abandoned golf course and its neglected grass, amidst the shuttered strip malls and these potholed streets the extraordinary has tread, and the footprints, they linger if you know how to look for them.
Dear Reader by Joseph Fink
[This is a transcript for a bonus episode of Alice isn’t Dead released when the book was published. It is basically an unpublished preface to the book, but I believe it’s important. I just thought it’s shame there is no transcript for it, so here it is.]
Joseph Fink: Hi! Joseph Fink here. Today is the day. The book is out! You can hold it in your hands. As a thank you for joining us on this road trip I wanted to share with you here a short letter to the reader I wrote a while back. It’s not in the final version of the book, so call this a little bonus thing. But I think it talks through a little bit of the mentality behind the writing. This novel is the most personal thing I’ve ever written and I’m very proud of it. I’ll be doing an 18-city book tour all over the country, starting tonight in Brooklyn and tomorrow in DC. These events are conversations with some of my favorite writers followed by a reading, followed by an audience Q&A, and then, finally, a signing. Most of these events are free or free with the purchase of the book, so check out the schedule at aliceisntdead.com. Okay, here’s the letter to the reader.

“Midnight Radio” from “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”
Can we talk about the way The Death and Life of John F. Donovan deals with bullying? Or, should I say, how Rupert Turner deals with bullying? You don’t have to be physically strong or “manly”, you don’t have to take karate lessons, you don’t have to humiliate bullies or hurt back those who hurt you. You deal with it, first and foremost, by knowing that you are loved, that you matter, that you are enough and there is nothing wrong with you, that you have people in your life who believe in you, and that your dreams are worth of dreaming. Then it all might hurt, but it will never break you. Of course, all the anti-bullying policies at schools are still necessary, but this is what you as a parent (or a friend) always can and must provide for the kid who grows up around you. Because it is a real-world superpower to know in your soul, say, that you are an actor.
The best music video I’ve seen this year. Here’s who these beautiful people are: https://hozier.com/ninacriedpowercast/
People of Night Vale!
Who are “they”?
“Us” is smart, scary, weird, funny, it has both a metaphorical level and a nice-to-have “explanation”. And its metaphor may be read more than in one way. This is the way I saw it: the only reason for a wall to exist between “us” and “them” is us being able to afford - among other things - that wall. Because in the end “them” are just as good (black, white, queer - you name it) as “us”, just less luckier. And if the government is unable (or unwilling) to see “them” as such, it’s up to us to recognize them as equal members of whatever community we consider as ours. Because all these walls, and cells, and camps are made on our money and out of “their” lives.
wow i haven’t been on my artist tumblr in a hot minute - but i saw “Us” and had to get in on the fanart!
