I've been working on some story/fantasy worldbuilding recently, and two of the main characters are the protagonist and her steed (who is a unicorn since horses don't exist in this world, but horse colors/husbandry/etc still apply

The thing is, the steed is a recent acquisition for the protag, who until then rarely interacted with any sort of large animal

So while I'm writing I'm torn because I want to get into unicorn/horse's description and mannerisms, HOWEVER, the protag knows jack shit about such things and would call any manner of coat color simply "brown"
