as of this afternoon (january 7 2019) at least 12 indigenous anti-pipeline activists at unisātotāen camp in unceeded wetāsuwetāen territory have been arrested by the rcmp. those arrested include molly wickham (the spokesperson of gitdumden clan) and an elder. these people will not be released, and are being taken to prince george, where they will stand before a justice of the peace.Ā
due to this event, itās more important than ever to support water protectors and pipeline activsts. here is the official website for theĀ unisātotāen camp so you can educate yourself on the issue. also please donate if you can.
itās more important than ever to help support indigenous water protectors and anti-pipeline activists. please do what you can - anything helps.
I dont often add actual, comments but this calls for it. This is a personal issue to me, and i ask you at least read into it a little.
Molly Wickham is my cousins wife, and she was arrested yesterday with many others while protecting her lands. Her husband, also a protester, and their children (not around the protest thankfully) are safe, but the fact remains that my family was arrested trying to protect lands that are rightfully theirs from a pipeline which the hereditary leaders and chieftains were NOT asked about. this is legally shady and incredibly immoral. The fact remains that they are trying to build on land which is not theirs.
she is out of prison as of today, but she shouldve never been arrested in the first place in any sort of just system.
tldr; my family was arrested while trying to protect their lands from a pipeline they (as a group, including their leaders) did not agree to. She is alright now, safe and at home.
please read into and donate (if you can) to the links posted! thank you all so kindly
