matt smith being the youngest person to play the doctor is so wild. he was staring into the camera like he’d seen fire and death and despair and was, on one level, utterly hopeless, given that he’d lost everyone he’s ever loved, and knows that one day, soon, he’s going to have to lose even more people, even possibly himself. and then his eyes would go hard as stone and he’d threaten to destroy entire civilizations and I would sit there, staring at my tv, fully convinced that he not only was capable of doing that, but that it made sense, because after living for a thousand years and bearing witness to the worst war of all time and committing a genocide against your own people, who wouldn’t snap? especially a man with eyes as old as that. and then i would snap out of it and realize that the man in question is not over a thousand years old, he’s like, 28. what the fuck.
