"Faggot"
FUCKING YES GOD DAMN IT THIS IS FUCKING IMPORTANT
I loathe this word because it is derogatory and used in a way to threaten, bully and dehumanize. I also hate that it is used in American culture to belittle any man who is viewed as having any stereotypical feminine attributes, like say compassion, tenderness or an affinity for a particular color etc. - in that regard it is also an indirect but potent slight to women. In fact, one of its earlier meanings was indeed a slight to women. One needs to understand the real etymology of the word and how it came to be used as it is today, predominantly in North America, to refer to a homosexual man - which is widely documented not to have come about until 1914, which I don’t think makes it any less reprehensible but it is a product of modernity which I find far more poignant; we tend to think we are more evolved than our ancestors but we are still capable of tremendous ignorance, hatred and brutality and we need to never loose mind of that because there are those among us today who, if given permission, would burn gay people or anyone else whose opinions or lifestyle they don’t like. http://bit.ly/1c65m3r http://bit.ly/19nK2lN http://bit.ly/1jQfp2g

Frederick Douglass was beautiful! Why is his portrait in the National Gallery in DC so lamely racially ambiguous?

This guy stopped watching porn — and he wants you to know why. Gender activist Ran Gavrieli felt that most of the images he saw in porn encouraged negative, even violent, attitudes toward women, despite a recent wave of feminist porn. So he pulled the plug, and found that his personal sex life and private fantasies became much more fulfilling. In his talk at TEDxJaffa, he advocates for physically and emotionally-safe sex, as well as erotica that shows a wider range of fulfilling sexual experiences — including the intimacy of human connection, laughter, and touch. Watch his talk here.
I think he makes a good case for how porn shapes people’s sexuality to be more aggressive and even violent, and that has a huge impact on how people interact sexually
Watching Gavrieli, it suddenly called to mind a bit of a dark correlation - sorry but I find it bolsters his argument. Ted Bundy, in his last interview, spoke intently of pornography's violence and how deeply his obsession with it fed into his decision to rape and murder.
