Andrea Maho & Zoltan Miller - Think Of Me

2003 Original Hungarian Cast recording

This cast and this recording need a lot more love, because regardless of how you feel about this production its got some FANTASTIC voices. And to prove that point, here is the absolutely breathtaking Andrea Maho doing a beautiful rendition of Think Of Me (gosh it gives me chills and feels), alongside a nice, youthful sounding Raoul Zoltan Miller (who was also one of the Phantoms!)

This recording also has Hungarian theatre super-star Sasvari Sandor as Phantom and he posses a strong, theatre/pop/operatic-ish voice and gives a great performance. Yeah give this album a try ;)

People were asking for refunds at the end of act one. I shit you not. Eight to ten people, in the lobby demanding their money back. The guy at the front of the line said “This is NOT what we paid to see”

Some of the new blocking was great. Some..wtf.

I didnt hate it. But I didnt love it. Just a very VERY mixed bag

Why does Laurence Connor think rape and being submissive is ok??? It's not. That's like a really big NO and he's sending out the worst message to teenage girls ever. If I were to give Connor and Cammack a punishment, I'd strap them to chairs and I would go with Rumpelstiltskinned's modern!Leroux AU where Erik's torture chamber consists of multiple tv screens playing an endless loop of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. Let's also add Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 2 into the mix.

The Phantom’s brutal treatment of Christine in the new Phantom tour (threatening to break her neck, choking her, and then starting to rape her), and Christine’s passive acceptance of it (unlike in Leroux, and in the Hal Prince production, where Christine stands up to Erik and renegotiates their relationship on her own terms), send an absolutely awful message to girls and women.

Leroux’s Christine was not passive, and she was not a victim, and neither was the Christine that Hal Prince and Sarah Brightman created.

The Christine that Connor and Udine have worked to create is unfortunately very meek and passive (except for when she slaps Raoul, smh), and combined with Grodin’s vicious Phantom, she becomes little more than a doormat. As I’ve written before, the throughline of this production is no longer Christine’s coming of age story (as it was in Leroux, and in Hal Prince’s production), but instead is the Phantom’s massive ego trip.

Regarding the apology note R sent to Enjolras; its too bad that they're both on July 5th, 1832. ;)
