A Love That Lasts Through Lifetimes

Long ago, during the age in which gods walked the mortal plane and demons were not mere stories told to scare young children.
There once lived a goddess that was beloved by mortals and gods alike.
She was said to be the most beautiful being in all of existence. A beauty so glorious that no human, nor, god could ever hope to compare.
Beautiful Hair as soft as the delicate feathers of a bird that reached down to the earth and moved as elegantly as the flowing waves of the ocean with strands that were made from molten sliver.
Skin as fair as a pearl that shined, like the full moon on a darkened night.
A lovely voice as sweet and smooth as honey.
Enchanting deep, green color that shimmered as brilliantly as raw malachite.
Though her name has been lost to the sands of time, it is known that this Goddess had domain over Light, Purity & Nature.
However, for every light, there is darkness.
This darkness took the form of The Demon King.
The ruler of the Demon Realm and the leader of the Demon race.
Believed to have long hair that flowed behind him like a scarlet cape.
Skin that was said to be burnt by the sun.
Terrifying eyes that were as red as blood that pierced straight into one's very soul.
The Demon King struck fear into the hearts of all those that crossed his path.
He was cruel and ruthless, killing his enemies without a hint of remorse, or, mercy.
That all changed when he met the Goddess.
The two first met in the mortal realm. Both had wanted to observe the goings on of the lives of mortals. They'd donned human disguises and left their respective lands.
It was while exploring a forest that the two ran into each other by chance.
The second their eyes met, it was like some missing part of them had finally been found.
From that day on, the Demon King and Goddess would sneak away to the Mortal to see each other and with each passing day, the two fell deeper and deeper in love.
Sadly, their tale was not one that ended in a happy ending...
Not long after the two began their relationship, a war broke out between the Demon race and the Gods.
Bloody battles raged throughout the land.
Beautiful, lush forests and sprawling landscapes became barren wastelands in the wake of these battles.
Massive casualties on both sides of the war.
And the Demon King and Goddess found themselves on opposing sides.
It was during a particularly brutal battle that tragedy struck.
While fighting against three godly opponents, the Demon King was suddenly and inexplicably stabbed from behind and straight through the heart.
Not by one of the enemy gods, but by his own general and right-hand.
The Demon general had secretly coveted the Demon King's throne and power for centuries, but could never hope to defeat the king a true head to head fight.
Seeing the distracted Demon King fighting off three gods, the Demon General used the opportunity to finally slay the king.
The Demon King fell to ground, his black blood pooling underneath him.
The Goddess, having witnessed the moment of betrayal and her lover falling to the ground, let out a scream so loud, primal and full of utter despair that it caused the battle around her to completely cease.
The goddess rushed to her fallen lover's side and collapsed to her knees.
She sobbed into the bleeding demon's chest, begging him not to die and leave her.
The Demon King gently caressed the Goddess's pale cheek. In a weak voice, he apologized for how everything turned out and promised that he has always and will always love her.
The Goddess stared, frozen in place, as if she could not process what had just happened. As if she could not believe the man she loved was truly gone.
Then...She let out the most painful and heartbreaking wail any being had ever heard.
pearly tears ran down her delicate cheeks as she sobbed uncontrollably, desperately clinging to her now dead lover.
In her state of despair and anguish, the Goddess's powers began to go out of control.
It crackled and lashed out around her, causing several demons and gods nearby to jump back, so as to not get his with a stray bolt of magic.
A few gods attempted to stop the Goddess, but it was too late.
In an intense rush of energy, the Goddess released a torrent of pure, raw divine power.
The resulting blast reduced both the Demon army and God army to vaporized dust.
When the dust settles, the Goddess finds herself alone in what was now a barren plain.
The only thing left untouched by the blast was the corpse of the demon the Goddess had come to love so much.
The Goddess stared at the Demon King's still face. Her tears having dried long ago.
In that moment, the Goddess made a decision.
She took hold of the sword the Demon King had fought with and pointed the sharp blade to her heart.
Then, with a deep breath, the Goddess plunged the blade into her chest.
Golden ichor flowed from the fresh wound, staining the Goddess's once pristine robes.
The Goddess collapsed into her lover's chest and stared up at the vast sky.
She shed one final tear, before breathing her last breath.
So, ends the tragic tale of The Goddess and Demon King.
For beings as powerful as Gods and Demons are not easily destroyed. Not entirely.
Instead, their souls are given new forms, new shapes. A new body for a new life.
All at the cost of any memories from their past.
A century passes and the Goddess is reborn. Now a mortal human. A princess to a small kingdom.
Her sliver hair that once reached touched the ground and moved like waves, now were strands of golden wheat that flowed straight like a river and reached past her shoulders.
The only trait that remained from her past were her eyes that still shined as sparkling green jewels.
Months later, the Demon King is reborn as a mortal human much like the Goddess. Now a common boy, who desires to be a knight.
His formerly sleek, scarlet locks, now replaced with long, shaggy black hair as dark as smoke from a fire. His dark skin, now a sickly pale from his childhood on the streets.
Yet his eyes remained that same frightening crimson color.
For the first two decades, the two paths never crossed.
One lived a life of luxury, filled with extravagant balls and all the best clothing and food.
The other lived a life of struggle. Constantly fighting to survive, while also training rigorously to achieve his goal of becoming a royal knight.
Eventually, the day came where the two finally met.
The Commoner Boy had managed to claw his way into a knight of the royal palace. However, due to his status as a commoner, he looked down upon by the other knights, who all came from noble backgrounds.
As such, the Commoner Boy, now Knight was assigned as a personal guard to the Princess, rather than, allowed to fight in battle.
This infuriated the Knight, but he dared not voice his displeasure.
His tone quickly changed up meeting the Princess.
Cold red eyes met brilliant green ones and a familiar spark was ignited once again.
Time seemed to repeat itself as the two quickly grew close.
The Knight learned that despite the Princess's privileged and spoiled upbringing, she was a gentle and sweet young woman. She treated everyone around her with nothing short of kindness regardless of their social standing.
While the Princess learned that despite the Knight's stoic exterior, he had a truly soft heat at his core. A man that deeply cares for others, despite how her presents himself.
Yet even with their growing love for one another, they both knew that pursuing any kind of true relationship would not be possible.
Their social status were worlds apart. They would never be allowed to be together. Still, that didn't stop them from hoping.
Sadly, much like there first life, this is not a tale that ends with happily ever after.
The kingdom's citizens, sick of their poor treatment by the royals and nobles, revolted.
The royal palace was stormed and many nobles, including the royal family, were captured and imprisoned to await their execution.
The Princess and the Knight managed to escape in the chaos and made plans to leave the country, but were unfortunately caught by a group of revolutionaries.
The Knight ordered the Princess to run away, while he held off the rebels, but the Princess staunchly refused. She could not leave him here to die.
That's when one of the rebels came charging at the two. The rebel attempted to strike down the Princess, but the Knight suddenly jumped in front of the Princess and took the hit.
The Knight was stabbed through the stomach by the rebel's sword.
The Princess screamed the Knight's name as he collapsed to the ground.
Before the Princess could even react, she was grabbed by the other rebels and promptly imprisoned like the rest of the Nobility.
When the time came from her execution, the Princess looked out over the sea of angry people, all chanting for her death.
A single thought ran through her mind.
'May we see each other in our next life, my dear Knight.'
Then the sword came down on her neck.
Two different lives. Both ending in tragedy. Fate truly can be cruel sometimes.
Perhaps that's why their third life was so different.
This life was one without nobles, magic or monsters. Just a normal modern world.
A young boy approaches a young girl.
The Boy had short, spiky hair that was grey as freshly grated pepper with bright green eyes that gleamed with excitement and curiosity.
The Girl had long, lightly curled hair that reached her shoulders and was a dark brown comparable to polished wood. Sharp, red eyes stared at the Boy behind wired rimmed glasses.
The Boy smiled brightly as he greeted the girl, reaching out a hand to her.
The Girl stared silently at the boy as if contemplating on whether, or, not she should even respond to the boy.
Eventually, the Girl sighed and took the boy's hand. She gave the boy a polite introduction.
A wide, cheerful smile stretched across the boy's face as he enthusiastically introduced himself.
That was how the two's friendship started.
The Boy was loud, boisterous and overly cheerful, constantly trying to make friends with everyone he meets. While the Girl was quiet, reserved and studious, preferring to keep to herself and read a book.
The two couldn't be more different, yet they seem to match each other perfectly.
Gradually, their friendship turned into something more.
The two started dating, soon becoming high school sweethearts.
College arrives, the Boy and Girl are now a Man and Woman. But the two are still together, even as they start their adult lives.
Eventually, the two get married, now Husband and Wife. They buy a house and years later they have a child. Then another and another.
Years go by, their children are grown and have left to begin their own lives. Maybe start a family of their own.
More years go by, the Husband and Wife are old now, yet their love hasn't dimmed even slightly.
The man suddenly dies from an illness. The woman mourns her beloved husband and friend. But she still moved forward, knowing her husband would never want to wallow in grief for him.
The Old Woman falls ill and is hospitalized.
There, surrounded by her grown children and grandchildren, the Old Woman passes peacefully in her sleep. Her final thought being how happy she'll be to see her dear husband again.
Thus ends their third life.
Their fourth life begins with two little girls.
One with wavy, fiery red hair that matched well with her crimson red eyes and spirited personality.
The other with short, light brown hair that reached her neck with soft green eyes and freckles. She was a shy and timid girl.
The red haired girl was the daughter of a noble, while the brown haired girl was the daughter of servants.
Due to their similar ages, the two girls' parents decided they would become playmates.
Whenever the noble girl had time away from her studies, she and the servant girl would spend all their time together exploring the mansion's garden.
The two became close friends, despite their differing statuses. They did everything together. If you saw one girl, the other wasn't far behind.
However, as they grew and became young women, they gradually realized their platonic friendship had become a romantic love.
Despite the scandal that would occur where word were to get out, The two women still decided to pursue a relationship in secret.
However, things changed when the Noblewoman's father announced her engagement to a Count that resided in the far north.
The Count was said to be very wealthy and influential in Noble High Society.
He was also thirty years her senior and had already been married TWICE.
Obviously, the Noblewoman was against the marriage. Even ignoring the absurd age gap with her only being nineteen at the time and the Count being well into his forties, her heart belonged to another. Though she could not say who.
The Noblewoman begged and yelled at her father, but he wouldn't hear it.
This marriage would increase their family's social standing exponentially and gain them a generous amount of land and wealth. He was not going to let his daughter ruin this opportunity for some pointless 'love'.
When the Noblewoman told the Servant, she was heartbroken, yet not surprised.
She always knew something like this would happen. After all, her beloved was a noble lady. She was expected to marry a man of high noble status and later produce an heir.
Meanwhile, she was a lowly maid with nothing to her name.
She knew their relationship was wrong, yet she foolishly hoped they could still somehow be together.
The Servant Girl ran away from the Noblewoman with tears in her eyes as she contemplated what naive fool she had been.
That night, as the Servant Girl laid in bed, eyes red and puffy from crying, she heard a faint knock at her window.
Curious, she got out of bed and walked to the window. She opened the window to see the Noblewoman standing there with a suitcase at her feet.
Confused and worried, the Servant Girl asked in a whispered voice what she was doing outside her window in the middle of the night?
The Noblewoman smiled and reached out her hand to the Servant girl.
"Let's run away together!"
The servant Girl was left speechless. She stared at the Noblewoman's hand. She thought about it for a long moment.
Then...a small smile appeared on her lips and she gently took her lover's hand.
The next morning, both the Noblewoman and Servant Girl were gone.
The Noblewoman's father was furious upon learning of their disappearance. He orders his knights to find his daughter and her maid and bring them back.
Yet, no matter how much anyone searched, they could not find any trace of either girl. As if the two had just disappeared into thin air.
To this day, no one knows for sure what happened to the two women, or even where they went.
But, if there's one thing for certain...They're together.
I'm sure you're wondering about the Goddess and Demon King's fifth incarnation.
Well...Let's just say it begins with a young man being transported to another world...
